And re vanity folders. I use the folder Props/maclean/product for all my stuff. Some people don't like it, some do. And if I change after more than 10 years, some people will like that, some won't.

I was originally persuaded to use a 'maclean' folder by the people at DAZ, and I reluctantly agreed. (I'm not so vain as to insist on having my name plastered all over people's HDDs). But having used the same system for all these years, changing now would simply annoy some customers.

I haven't decided if I like that or not...I seem to for characters..makes it easier to find them, while clothes I guess I don't associate so much with the individual vendor as I do characters.

I know there are folks that disagree, but I would prefer if "vanity" folders were required for all content sold here, as it would make listing content used that much easier for me.

And I like vender name folders for characters and clothes, though clothes a bit more, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and I keep that in minid when choosing what to use in the situation.

I've done a few "unofficial" surveys of PAs and customers regarding if they like the PA vanity or folder or not. The results seem to be a dead split 50/50 for the PAs that use them, and the ones that don't, and also 50/50 among customers that will make one if it isn't there, and those that remove the ones that are there. It really does seem to be that equally split down the middle, so pick whatever one you like. Half the people will be happy, and the other half will re-arrange to suit their needs no matter which way you go.

I acknowledge that I understand the individual words you've used, and you appear to have combined them with conviction and forthought, but as of yet at 4am, I couldn't sear to the significance.

That looks exactly like something I would have typed at 4am. wink

Mike is alluding to the option of creating categories for your content instead of manually moving folders around. Catergories will create a shortcut to the installed location, but leave it intact so you don't break any connections that might disable your content.

  • +1 subfolders here as well

Do I remember correctly that those get erased every so often by Daz because Duh-daz?

Don't put your custom categories in the Default master category, do make back ups by epxorting user data (from the Content Library option meni>Content DB Maintenance).

Subfolders, as long as there are enough items for subfolders.

If there are only 3-4 items, no need to go overkill with categorization.

  • I also take everything over to custom Categories as soon as I get a product.  Sometimes having things in subfolders is helpful to this and sometimes it is not.

But having the 3dl content separated from the iray content is always welcome.

I'd like to see subfolders for figure type (like when a product supports G3F and G3M, or G2F and G3F). Really hare havign to show more details to see the path so I can figure out which one to click. Either use sub-folders or at least do soemthing distictive with the icon (or with the filename -- not the path, but just the filename so we can filter on that).  Good question!
