This product.....
Is it a 3-D model or is it a skydome and image backdrop-sphere/cube kinda thing?
I see the image which usually denotes what the 3-D model looks like without it's textures/skin/materials etc....
A) It's Dreamlight (which seems to make lights and tutorials
B) There's no mention of PROPS anywhere, only background rendering related features....
C) I've been bit numerous times by misunderstanding what a product is, beyond the promo pics. lol

I hear ya...
Can't tell for sure. But, it does look like a model. In the last few shots, it is a rendering of the base model with no textures. I don't blame you for being wary. I've accidentally bought textures and domes before, thinking they were a complete prop.
There are no required products listed. But, I agree that Dreamlight mostly does addons for environments.
The file list and readme suggest that it is a complete environment. I do not see a specific obj file listed for the models. But, there is a complete list of texture files and preset files.

If it is something else, at least, Daz is very good about refunds. :)
Lol. I thought that too, but I don't want to be that guy.
Picked it up. Thanks.
Even though you picked this up already, I've had this model for a while now (although I don't remember getting it :O )
It is indeed a prop/set and not just a backdrop
Thanks for the extra boost of confidence.
First mistake of shopping for 3D resources... going off the promo pics. Thats a habit im sure we all have done at one point, and have been equally bit in the process. Alway read the descriptions for the product and it will tell you what it is. You also need to understand what the various file extensions are; that will help you in understanding what a product is. However, since im an older user of DazStudio, im not 100% certain, but i do believe .DUF's are Daz's proprietary geometry format that only works in DS4+.
Also, with the promo pics showing the product without textures, that also goes to show the product is an object and NOT some fancy skydome package.
Lastly, although Dreamlight is most known for his light set packages and tutorials, he has quite a number of sets of various themes. Linked are just a few of such said items:

DUFs are actually all purpose Daz file extensions. They're the clickable buttons in the content libarary that can be materials, objects, ligths, shaders, and so on. They're text or zipped text files that have instructions and pointers to other files, like .obj, jpgs, etc.
I own the pit. It is a model set with a skydome and lights and various settings. It rendered so slowly though for me in 3dleight that I couldn't use it on m machine. I haven't booted it up since, to try in iray. But no, it is 3d model. Just not one I could use. Though I tried.
I have The Pit and have used it before, though it's been a while. It also has a Medium and High resolution setting for model and materials, which is nice.
The only downside to it is that it has no adjustable parts, it's all one 'thing' (though you can hide or manipulate surfaces).
Poking at it for Iray, I find it hard to get it to run in GPU on my machine. Too big, too many maps, I don't know. Mind you, my GPU RAM is only 3.5 GB, so it's not a very high limit.
Thanks for checking that. I resigned myself a while ago I couldn't use it on my current rig. It'll have to wait until I get something more robust.
If I were going to do more with it, I'd try using my procedural shaders to cut down on maps.
And lest I be accused of pitching my (free) shaders constantly, I haven't done this mainly because it'd be a LOT of work
Thanks folks. So....is it a keeper?
There's also DzFires "The Hole" which serves the same purpose for me.....

Think we should return the Pit and get the Hole? lol
Nope, not a keeper for me. I'd probably take the DZFire model if I had a choice.
By the way, does anyone know how to tell how much you paid for something? It looks like it pops up with the current price and not teh fixed amount you actually got it for,
And my orders page doesn't itemize either, it shows the default and your discount.
Did you get a confirmation email. The actual price you paid is shown in that.
I own the pit from dream light I got it way back on a flash sale a long time ago. I had a real major issue with this set in that it was 1 gig in sze for downloading. and a11/2 gigs installed. and I rarely used it so I removed it from my content folder to save space for stuff i used regularly . Its a large environment setting. no props that I can remember anyway. I tried using it a few times, but the set was so heavy in resources and like i said i rarely used it so I removed it out of my active content folder. because of how much space it used. hope that helps
Oh snaps. Thanks!
Yeah, I can't battle a heavy set.
Oh well
The biggest drawback is that since it's all one THING, you can't easily remove most of it to cut down on load.
(I mean, you can with geo editor, but that's a lot of work)
yes you are right Will. that was the other issue. why i rarely used it you can not break it up into parts it loads as one geometry .Obj, so its not even good for kit bashing
Already returning in process. Not to worry, Daz got even more money as I picked up a bunch odf Dzfire stuff. He's got an Armory set that's incredible, and a gun and ...and....the hangar....
Love the armory. Use it frequently. Plus all the weapons make it a good value.
Hells yeah... That little one in the case, grabbed that too.....
I'm just trying to SURVIVE March Madness. Can't wait till it's over.
I can't imagine what else they could be pulling out.
Any vendors still coming up the ramp?
Already grabbed tons of old stuff....
But I did imagine, what if they upped the Runtime DNA discount SKU to 32,000
That would be crazy.
But you know, even in over-the-head this should be my lifetime library.
So suffer now and reap rewards from NOT having to search for every little thing. I had no idea how important the smaller props and background objects are.
