Alpha channel not working with displacement map

Hello,

I'm trying to create a single hair. In photoshop i've created the single hair with the color white (visiable by daz) and have created the rest that I don't want to see in black (not visible in Daz).  However when I apply this image to a plane in Daz under the displacement map nothing happens and all I see after the render is the whole plane visible and in white.  I'm not sure why my alpha channel isn't working.  According to everything I read the color black should be transparent while the color white is visible.  Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks!

Transparency is handled by cut-out opacity, not displacement

Thanks glaseye.   For some reason the cutout opacity isn't showing up in my surfaces tab like all the tutorials suggest.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks

What shader do you have applied DS default or Iray Uber or something else, cutout opacity is  Iray Uber DS default has Opacity Strength

Your attached image shows the 3delight shader tree, not the iray one, and it is visible as the 'opacity strength' setting there.

In the iray shader, the 'Cutout Opacity' setting is usually just above the Displacement Strenght' setting if you have the 'Iray uber base' shader applied from the 'Shader Presets - Iray - DAZ Uber' tab/menu

  • That worked!  Thanks glaseye!
