    Did you change the rendering options? I've noticed that when I adjust the render quality mid-render... the percent done never drops back down but the convergence will.

    They are measuring two different things.  The message in the collapsable pane is the convergance.  The percent on the progress bar is how much convergance based on the Rendering Converged Ratio.  If you set Rendering Converged Ratio to 50% the progress bar will say 100% when the convergance reaches 50%.
