The new Releases are all either Iray, Genesis 3, or have no Poser files... I think?

So you can't really make use of the other discounts as there are no new qualifying items you could use in Poser. If I understood the OP correctly, that id.

  • You could say that for 90% of the releases so why is today any different then other days.

But you are right you need to duy the DAZ stuff first before you can access the poser sales.

So how much DAZ Studio stuff does Smith Micro release? For that matter, howe much new Poser content does Smith Micro release?

Comparing apples and oranges there, I think, since Smith Micro produces software while Daz is a content provider first. Yes, they have Daz Studio now, which is good (if you can use it) but it wasn't always that way. Would be nice to have greater compatibility between the two systems but barring miracles, I don't see it happening any time soon.sad

I saw the Mars Explorer suits for G2F and G2M, moved em from cart to wishlist when I saw there was nothing I could use in the REQUIRED purchase category for Poser at all.  I looked at all 7 items, it was just payday and I wanted some of this Mars/Sci-Fi stuff.  But none of those items will work in Poser.   This stuff with the DUF files ain't anything like the old days where DS *DID* load and use Poser stuff ok.  Just had to tinker with material settings for some things.   I didn't come in here to fight.  I do want DAZ to put some Poser usable stuff in the required items so I can get in on this sale too.

Midnight_Stories, I will be getting those two suits, one way or another, ok?  That isn't all I have of yours in my little wishlist.

It looks to me they don't want compatibility.   They created the DUF format and nobody elses software can read it.   FWIW, I started off using DS, and used it for several years.  Then I finally tried Poser 6.  Loved the interface.  It did things that DS didn't.  So I kept using Poser.  Still prefer it to DS.  Yes, DAZ has made a considerable fortune for a few and comfortable living for a bunch.  And they did that creating content and also handling PA content for Poser.   Oh well.

I'm afraid a lot of us vendors have lost the art of doing poser stuff, it's been a long time since I did any. Poser was where I came from. But I have to pay the bills and feed the family like everyone else. No one can tell you what do, just do what you love to do ! no disrespect intended !

Yup!  Know the deal!  Been there Done that.  I came FROM DS to Poser.  (shrugs)  I love oranges, you like your apples!  But, as you do produce a few oranges now and then, I'll buy some.  :o)

.duf specification is open and public, other softwares could definitely have duf importers if they wanted.

Thanks I understand where you are coming from more now. I wish there were more hours in the day and we could please everyone. Being a vendor the ground is constantly changing what I thought yesterday may not work today. My hats off to the guys who can still support poser and DS at the same time it's a lot of hard work.

    Cheers !

FWIW I thought they might have made an effort to but more space-related items in that sale. Example: M3 suit, ships, Apollo lander, stardome, planets. (I did pick up the basic space shuttle during the holiday sale.)

Also, isn't NASA missing a marketing opportunity here? I think there USED to be some models available on their (NASA) page, but not any more?

@ Roman_K2 - Not the point, BUT . . . there are 3D models at the NASA sites.   Check here: https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/

@ Leana - I should have said that the UNENCRYPTED form of the .duf is readable by anyone as text.  Thing is, DAZ isn't promoting this nor do any of the 3D software companies utilize it.  They don't seem interested at all.  And no one has picked up the format.  The only one complaining about it, actually, appears to be ME!

SOOoooo back to the quandry.  I don't and won't use DS.  SO, I ain't buying any DS only stuff.  That's ridiculous!   THEREFORE, DAZ;  I ain't allowed to utilize this sale!
