That's a great-looking suit. Sad for me that it is disontinued. I like the rigid qualities that the newer conforming genesis stuff just doesn't seem to have. Like it is made of dough. This suit looks like it has weight and shape of its own independent of having to conform to genesis.
In Australia we had a guy by the name of Ned Kelly who wore this armor
I have found that Luthbel and his sister, Luthbellina, make male clothing products that appear real on real-looking G3M's in movement or stasis. Although I own most of what is available for males, they alone pass muster, especially with conventional wear. Uzilite's M601 and M401 come in second. Modeled folds/gathers are essential to selling the illusion. Rhiannon's female clothing is more adaptable to realistic males than most of what is available for men of any Daz generation.
I wish Arien were still doing texture expansions for Luthbel. Shox-Design was doing textures for Luthbellina, but that's not happening anymore either. OK, I know this thread is about armour; so, I'll stop there.
I haven't done the polycount figures, but my solution for multiplication of Cyclops-wearing figures was to delete all the G3M textures; duplicate five; pose those five and instance the posed five.
I've gotten a lot of use out of the V4 Historical Armor, especially the gauntlets. It helps that there's a LOT of textures out there for it (Both here and at Rendo)
Speaking of Rendo, the Supreme Armor over there is fun for M4 (The V4 is rather silly though). The crotch is still a bit exposed, but at least the hips move independently, unlike say... Old World Knight :(
At the moment I'm looking for something overkill in the other direction though. I need full plate armor that's covered in dangerous Spikes. Any sugestions?
Yura's armour sets, though badly in need of a true texture artist (as I see Daz provided for Space Merc), are so badass (in terms of shape/form) that I just work with them the best I can. Unfortunately, Space Merc has only two surfaces for the torso, unlike Yura's other sets. Yura and IH Kang need to team up with dedicated texture artists, such as Shox-Design, so we can get value out of their meshes. Of course, the extra step is going to add another couple of weeks to their delivery date, and that can be problematic.
This and the other one are just the epitome of quintessential fantasy armour. I actually like them both, for what they are intended for. Pure fantasy lol.
...I'm not into pinups be they "cheescake" or "beefcake". I illustrate stories so I'd like clothing and armour to look a bit more "practical".
...
...umm not exactly. in RL, ballistic cloth (generally a Kevlar™ weave which is made up of multiple layers) is designed to dissipate the force of a much higher kinetic impact at a much smaller area than a lower velocity sword blow. Some types of ballistic clothing also include provisions for the use of hard ceramic or more lightweight polyethylene plates that are inserted into pockets on the front back and sides. One can actually cut or stab through ballistic cloth with a sharp blade whereas it is extremely difficult to do so to chain mail. On the other hand chain mail (and even mediaeval plate) was no match for firearms, particularly so with today's weapons.
While ballistic cloth can save lives, one can still be subject to injury like severe contusions and even broken bones from the impact. It just keeps the bullet from actually piercing your body.
No, what I mean is change the stuff that's chain armor into ballistic armor by retexturing it, in the process of converting medieval armor to modern/scifi armor.
Apparently a few layers of blowing blousy silk billowing out behind a horseman does a half decent job of intercepting, deflecting, and absorbing the energy of arrows.

...sorry got carried off on the realism discussion.
Actually for the purposes of my writing, I could just do it with regular clothing and say it is made of say, a "Neo-Kevlar ballistic weave". There is already Kevlar body armour designed to be worn underneath regular clothing. Given technical progress and 40 years time, you probably could get armoured clothing that looked like say, a tailored business suit or biker's leathers (actually have a leather jacket that is almost armour in it's own right, took a couple spills while wearing it and was no worse for the wear, it is so heavy that if put on the back of say a kitchen or dining room chair it can easily tip the chair over).
The tough part is heavier armour for an HTR team. The GRIM Armor THD777 posted a pic of is pretty much what I would expect heavy security or even milspec suit would look like save for maybe a helmet with a faceplate.
This used to be sold at Runtimedna. Just need to use the restroom before donning :)
Hatred of one's enemy keeps you quite warm.
Well, I belelive there's a problem with seeing period acurate female armor.
...I wonder where the coal bin is.
He he
Executive clothing, mainly business suits, made from ballistic materials have been available for many years. A friend of mine is bodyguard and he wears them. They're heavy, but they look like ordinary suits. Kevlar breaks down rapidly under UV light, as Mercedes found to their regret when they tried making convertible tops out of the stuff.
If she drops her axe during battle, she can always use her chain melee weapon....er... chest piece.
Hahaha, I'm loving the shade thrown on fantasy 'armor' in this thread. To me, it's all variations of 'Malibu Stacy with a New Hat' at this point. And yeah, I've voiced my displeasure about skimpwear many, many, many times before. In all honesty, I think there is a time and a place for it in fiction and whatnot, (I mean hell, Conan and Red Sonja wear about the same amount of "clothing" when you really think about it) but it doesn't hurt to have some stuff going in the other direction to balance things out. Such as it is.
Plus, if you're feeling cheeky, you could kitbash a lot of the female skimpwear for guys. That's what I've done with some of the stuff I got in the Lilth 6 Pro Bundle (which I normally would have never bought, but at $6.95 at the time, I couldn't pass it up).
That said, I'm extremely happy to see that guys are starting to get in on the impractical armor business. Slowly, but surely. And, no, historical Roman/Greek armor doesn't count. ;p
Although I am getting kind of tired with the Mass Effect-inspired sci-fi armor. But then again, after years of Star Trek-esque pastiches.... I guess I'll take the N7 bootlegs for now.
It seems this older render of mine certainly feels relevant for the discussion at hand:
...that's great and oh so true.
I remember when there were two "retro" styled space suits released or G2F/G2M. The one for male characters looked like it would keep the wearer alive in the cold vacuum of space. Meanwhile the one for female characters was little more than a bathing suit with a fishbowl helmet.
I guess women must be completely immune to the harsh environment of outer space.
What set is this?

That product is not available for purchase anymore, SanctumArt closed their store many years ago. That was made for Michael 3, so around 20 years ago.
A lot of threads are being necro'd lately.
Yes, as Leana said. It's an old set that I bought over 20 years ago directly from the artist. It was quite expensive, about $100 or so. However, I am still using it today, so I got my money's worth out of it.
Here is a recent one with G9 Ivan as the face: https://www.deviantart.com/thd777/art/1186633950 It still holds up very well with a bit of Iray adjustment.

Form over function. Armore is not designed to protec t the body only to make it look good. Somewhat like a serimonial sword with a moderm military uniform.
