Can i use it to render a scene where the character is inside staring out the window on a rainy day?  It would not be raining inside but only outside?   Also how can I handle an umbrella while the scene is raining?

Dunno about the umbrella, and probably oughta wait for RawArt to answer, but you might rotate the "rain" panel into position for the inside render.

Remember though, I'm having a lag behind day. smiley

What do I need to have selected to apply the lighting bolt to the 3rd plane for instance? I haven't neen able to get that preset to work at all.

Oh, I see. For the indivudual panels you need to be in the surfaces tab to apply them correct?

Have the third panel selected in your scene...make sure the surface is selected...then apply the lightning MAT

    It should work

if you place the panels outside the window it will rain outside the house.

An umbrella would not work, these are not dynamic effects, they are effects painted on panels.

It works really well with HDRIs.

With the explosion effect I am seeing definite edges of the planes at render time.  Managed to mitigate them by some scaling of the effect planes.

Are all the plane edges within the camera's range?  Having some plane edges inside camera view, and some outside camera view, will give that layering effect.

I twisted the plane setup today, and that noticed it.  Adjusted the planes, and it was ok.

(I've been fiddling with this camera thingie all day, so have acquired experience.) winklaugh

It's addictive, isn't it? I haven't stopped messing about with it either. I almost passed up on this one, mostly because I've got a thing for buying special effects products and then forgetting about them (but then, they wouldn't be special if I used them all the time, right? :) ). I couldn't resist looking at the promos though, and that was when I noticed that it could be used to create darkness. That's definitely something I'd use a lot, virtually every day, and so in the cart it went. Testing it with an experimental render of lamplight reflecting off of the waters of a darkened Streets of Asia, it occurred to me that the way it was put together meant I could render the view of a darkened street from a brightly lit room. Great stuff, naturally I had to have a go at that too. Next up was rain viewed through an open doorway. I have actual work to do... but I still can't stop mucking about with this thing... I've not even experimented with anywhere near all of the effects yet... aarrgghh!!! EnviroCam Anonymous - at current sale prices, just ten dollars gets you in :)

My train of thought followed yours, almost exactly. :-)  Yes, it is fun.  One can do a lot with those panels.

It did take me a minute or two to get a handle on the cam, though.  I had to play with it a little, to see the possibilites.

Some (left hand edge) were within frame and obvious.  Not sure about the rest but think lower edge may have been, but they were not obvious if they were.

Thats why the panels were designed to be easily movable......if your shot somehow has an edge visible, then you can easily move it.

Good example but even better than that---there's a story there that's compelling.

Yes, it does.  I think I was rendering through the wrong camera view, when I first tried the Envirocam w/an HDRI.  I didn't have the planes in focus or something.

Great render. smiley  The cam works very well w/landscape scenes.

It is fun, I'm not sure the rain on works very well for me yet, it seems to just look like snow or white flakes but I didn'r let it render long enough yet so that might be the reason, here's the render I was working on using the xplosion dust instead

Nice effect! :-)  If I scale the panels, the materials look different, and sometimes more in proportion to the dimensions of the scene.  That happened when I scaled a "rain" panel down last night, playing around with a background for a portrait.

scaling down works...or if you need the panels large you can also increase the tiling in the surface settings.

Thanks I'll have to try that :)

I have a question, can the envirocam do this?

Had Envirocam Iray any updated new feature now listed in the shop? For sword fighting and railroad/India Jones escape scenes would this effect would  be very useful. If not possible, envirocam sills great, even if now my priority is this wanted effect..
