GTX 1070 vs. GTX 1080

Looking at a Xmas present for myself.  Cuurently have two GTX 970 EVGA 4GB cards and looking to remove one and replace with either 1070 or 1080.  Both 1070 and 1080 have 8 GB of VRAM, but the 1080 has 2560 CUDA cores vs. 1920 CUDA cores.  Is the increase in CUDA cores worh the $240 more for the GTX1080?  The 1080 does have faster memory too.

Got a render going for 57 min that is not using my GPUs because it's over 4GB.  Driving me nuts!!

CPU is an Intel i7-5820 with 16 GB RAM, so they should not be a problem.

Any thoughts on 1070 vs. 1080 would be appreciated

Thanks.

My philosophy with things like this is go with what you can really and truly afford..  Since it is no point going for something that is cool and awesome that is going to send you to the poor house, the other thing is that being so close to 2017 there is talk of the 1080Ti coming out next year and you may be kicking yourself if you buy now..

And then again if you do that you could end up not buy anything because you are waiting for the next best thing to come out..

So in the end it is the first point go with what you can afford without sending you to the poor house..

BEFORE you do anything, I want to make sure you know that Pascal (1000 series) is only supported in the Daz Studio BETA. It will NOT work in either 4.8 or 4.9 full release.

The beta generally works, but being a beta it does have some bugs in it.
