I'll toss in-anything in the Daz or Rendo Store, barring Daz Originals, of course. ;)
@DarwinsMishap Thanks so much. Sent a PM. :)
I've edited the original post, but thought I'd clarify that any donated prizes should be in the form of gift cards for the DAZ store if you wish to donate a monetary amount. Vendors can donate products from their stores. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about that. Thanks so much for the generous donations and inquiries so far. :)
It's Raining Men Again contest starting soon!
I was looking at the prizes from last contest and I will donate one of the $10 Gift Certificates like last time but how do I do that? Just buy it and than somehow transfer to the official contest administrator?
@nonesuch00 Hi. I just sent you a PM that hopefully answers all of your questions. Thank you so much for offering to become a donor. :)
Thanks. I got your messages.
I have a question. The contest is called 'It's Raining Men' but even the video of that song featured more women then men so my question is can female(s) be allowed in the contest entry renders. I wasn't going to enter because it is a lot of work to get this computer to do anything and I'm not very good with DAZ but I had an idea for a render but it includes a female. May I enter such a render? I'm working on my contest render now as it's indoor and I'm trying to get incandescent/candle lighting so that it looks correct with iRay emissives but the wattage is much higher than it should be if I go by real life experience.
Anybody with a sense of how iRay emmissives work is free to chime in. Do I have to crank us the watts so high because the walls, floors, ceiling, and other surfaces aren't properly reflective of light without being mirrorlike? The set is the State Room (PC+) and is a small closed wooden room with carpet, wallpaper, and wooden chair guards.
If you look through the last contest entries in the Art forum you will see there is some women in the renders but the main charactors have to be men.
Plz correct me if I am wrong KM.
Two things to remember about lighting: First, and I believe you've got it covered... light bounces off the walls and back into the room. If a wall or ceiling is "missing," the light just keeps going. Also, light reflects better off light walls/ceiling than it does off of dark, (wood paneling, for example.) Second, using real world values for candles and light bulbs will get real world lighting in the room. But it won't look "right" because the camera isn't compensating the way our eyes do. You can increase the wattage to get a brighter room, or you can use tonemapping to lighten the scene, much as in the real world you would make adjustment on your camera, (or it would do for you if set to Auto.)
Let me double check and pose the question. I'll get back to your before the contest starts on this one. My initial thoughts are that since they were allowed in last year's contest then, yes, supporting female figures would be allowed. However, the focus of the contest is all about the guys and the male figure(s) have to be the focus of the image. As I said, let me double check that, though.
I know the rules aren't up yet. Just remember this, for anyone trying out ideas, all renders must be posted in the entry thread before they are posted to your gallery or in other contests. I'd hate to see any renders get knocked out by a technicality.
Thanks for the lighting tips. I have a good indoor dim light I think and I will add candles and increase the ISO from 400 to 800 with I think is the highest amateur speed on those old film cameras and from there I will incrementally increase the lighting to it looks good.
As far as the entries I did look at all 140 but I don't remember any women but then I only looked yesterday and am even struggling already to remember the 3 winners. The man and woman will be about 50% - 50% since they will be communicating with one another in the render. Thanks for the reminder not to post my preliminary test renders.
Really? So DAZ has to store the image twice? (Last year, I uploaded to my gallery, then used the gallery page image for the entry. They were posted the same day. I didn't win anything, but I'm sure it wasn't because of that! lol)
I can double check, but that rule is based on the rules from last year. When the contest started, all entries were originally to be posted in the It's Raining Men thread and then it was decided later that entries could be posted in the gallery and other contests. I think one advantage to having the original posted to the thread is that the attachment itself is easily available to the team judging the contest. I'm not part of the judging aspect so I'm not completely sure about that. I will double check the logistics on this one and let you know for sure. I hope the contest turns into an annual event and if it does, I'm sure the rules will evolve and change depending on the questions that get asked. So, if anyone has questions, even after the Official rules are posted, please ask any questions you have. If I don't have an immediate answer, I know who to ask for clarification. Thanks.
Last year, there were some images that had women in support of the main male character. For example, Disco David 5 by me. Also, last year, we were encouraged to repurpose an item designed for female figures for another use. Additional category if included repurpose. For example, Disco David 5 is wearing an outfit designed for a female character but converted with the transfer utility. Ulysses's boat is being powered by a sail that is actually a woman's panties.
I am neither recommending nor disparaging last year's rules.

I want to thank everyone who has offered to donate prizes. We have a great community and I'm very happy to have your support for this contest. I'm always willing to continue taking prize donations even after the contest goes live. The contest starts tomorrow, November 1, and I'll be posting the entry thread at midnight DAZ time or there about.
Just remember images have to be new and not posted anywhere before the contest start date. I'm still waiting for feedback to see if it matters if they are posted to the gallery first and then linked or if they need to be posted to the entry thread first. I hope to have that answered by the time I post the entry thread tonight. If anyone has questions regarding the rules once posted and you need clarification, just ask and I'll do my best to answer them.
Good luck everyone!
A word of advice there, If you want to do the sort of anonymous voting thread that I used last time, then you need the images post to the WIP thread first, by way of the attachment. You can then use the image links from the attachment, via right click, to make the thread. I tend to collect the titles and links in a document in Libre Office Writer and then use that to number them, then arrange them alphabetically.by image title. And I use Libre Office rather than MS word becuse my MS word version is a wee bit old and doesn't work too well with MS Windoze > 7
I thought there might have been a reason for that last year, but I wasn't sure since I wasn't part of organizing the contest or the voting. Thanks for letting me know. And yes, we are having annonymous voting and being able to use the attachment makes sense. Thank you.
This is how my list in Libre Office looks. You can see that I have added the member's name as well, because otherwise it would have been massively dificult to sort out who had done what, given the amount of entries we had last time. When I am doing the Bryce Challenge I only have around 50-ish, so not so difficult.
Questions asked and answered:
Here is an update as it stands now on those questions that have been asked in this thread about the rules for the It's Raining Men Again contest.
1. Can females be in the image? Yes, females can be in the image, but they must be in a supporting role(s). The male figure must be the focus of the image.
2. Do the entries need to be uploaded to the entry thread or can they be linked from the gallery? Entries to the thread must be uploaded to the thread to be a valid entry. This is so we don't have to track down images to create the anonymous voting compilation for the judges. You can still upload your image to your gallery and link to other contests from there, but an uploaded image file must accompanying your entry post or you risk being missed in the final judging.
If I missed a question, please ask again, but I think those were the only two. Just a word about uploading and timing of entries. When talking about the difference between just a few minutes, it doesn't make much of a difference if you upload to your gallery first or upload to the contest's entry thread first. I'm not going to automatically disqualify any image because it was uploaded to an entrants gallery 1 minute before it was uploaded to the entry thread. I'm not even sure we can check that. This contest is meant to be fun and to celebrate the Men. As long as the image is new and has not been posted elsewhere prior to the contest start time then it will qualify. Please do post to the It's Raining Men Contest before entering other contests, though, as the goal in this contest is to celebrate our love for the male figure and that is what your image should reflect and is only proper to be submitted to this contest first. I hope that clears up any misunderstanding regarding how to enter and upload your submissions.
Once the Entry thread has been posted tonight DAZ midnight time and you read all of the rules, please ask if you still have any questions concerning the contest and/or your submissions.
Thank you and good luck to everyone. :)
Thank you for the clarification, KnittingMommy. I can now see why it's important to attach the image to the post, rather than linking from the Gallery, so will do. :)
Thanks for the update. Will there be an additional optional category for best repurpose of a female item for use with a male item?
Yes, there is. It was a big part of the last year's contest and it just wouldn't be right to not have it in this year's contest. So Re-Purpose away! :)
I'm glad the clarification helped. I learned something about the process along the way, too. :)
Alright everyone. The official thread is now open over in the Art Studio! You can find it HERE! The competition starts now@ If anyone still has questions, please ask in the Contest thread.
Thank you to all of our donors so far. I just added more prizes to the prize pool. If anyone still wishes to donate, I'm still taking donations.
Donations are not required to enjoy the fun and enter a render in the It's Raining Men Again Contest, though! Come join the fun and enter today!
Hey, folks! Just a little over two weeks left to enter the It's Raining Men Contest over in the Art Studio. Thanks to more generous donations, the prize pool just got a little bigger. 1st place in both the Main category and RePurposed is now bigger than ever! Enter soon!
kewl, there still time for this?!
is using a female hair a qualifier? i been fussing with the lada hair on him
Hi knittingmommy, I'd like to dontate one item if you still want to add in an extra incentive. PM me if interested.
The rules state any female item that has been repurposed. As long as it didn't, go through a 'her' first to get it to fit then you should be good. No use of female clones or morphs allowed per the rules.
PM sent. :)
you mean the autofit clones? autofit a vicki4 hair to gianni disqualifies? oh dear
