    I noticed.

I don't buy gobs of horror stuff (but do buy some and I do have a weakness for monsters). Nor do I buy lots of elven stuff (tho I have bought some). I don't really do scifi either (tho I have bought a little). I guess you could say I have a little of everything :P.

Yes, I was very bored by today's new products too. It's not like the other 11 months of the year the DAZ market is oversaturated with those same sort of new products. I was hoping for new products from 3DU.

I can only guess that it is from vendors trying to take advantage of game maker hobbyists trying to hit it big with zombie type products. Zombies products are to game maker hobbyists as to panty products to haute couture fashion artists.

Zombies are also a massively overused theme in amateur graphic novels although in successful professional graphic novels and professional games, zombies as a theme is much less popular although still overused.

I'm not into the horror stuff but can't get enough medieval items. I absolutely love the Elven Prince and Ancient Room sets today. The lines of the Elvin Prince outfit are fantastic, and with some reshading, that outfit could be modern or even futuristic (reminds me of the GIS and Space Dweller sets.) The Ancient Room is full of useful items and can be used in lots of different ways. I thought that bundle was a great deal today and can't wait to get home to do some renders.

they included a camera, you know a disc light pointed right at those windows it is still near pitch dark so wonder why no lighting preset included

I am stumped how to get that sunshine in iray (can most likely myself redoing it in Octane but not the point)

there's a terminology when they point the light right in the window like that.  read it in the online ds manual.  cant' remember.  blooming?

I would love to know how they lit that, because it's gorgeous. Too bad there aren't presets, but maybe we can figure it out.

Yes, in the render settings, check under Filters, and there's a bloom filter. It needs some experimenting, though.

take away IDL, i'se so lost >.<

You need a fast nVidia card to have the luxury of time to figure out those iRay Render Settings but it might be bloom or maybe increasing the pixel radius of the gausian filter or a combination.

I think increasing the pixel radius of the gaussian filter would be the faster render to test for that effect. It's very easy to use too much bloom and its quickly obvious when you have too much of it.

    Could also be postwork.

  • The main problem with that great hall is that I don't know when I'd get to use it!   The next issue I see is in my 3D budget for this week.  sad

    It looks great!

  • I changed some materials but I cannot even get close in Octane render 4 Carrara

have the sun power right up to 40 too! (instead of 1)

There is an HRDI of a sunrise or maybe it is a sunset at hrdihaven.com that is a freebie that would get that effect for you pretty easily I bet.

Maybe a combo of interior and exterior lights in that scene? No idea. Will play when I get home.

A simple large meshlight outside of the window, set to 20.000 units at k/cm², works the trick.

I'm originally from RDNA and I was thinking the same thing about the themes getting darker.

I've got it much brighter, tho not as bright as the promo ;). You HAVE to play with Tone Mapping for dark interiors. You can't get away from that.

I'll show when it's finished and I'll give my sun and render settings.

I love the Krampus theme today; even gone over budget now for what I've spent in the last three months.

I was happy to see it, as after watching the Krampus movie, and it's most accurate portrayal of what christmas is, as opposed to what folks wish it was.

Here is the Ancient Room in Iray. All the settings I used are on the images below. It's not a full cook, but enough to give you an idea ;). I also used a distant light for the sun and set the sun node in the Environment settings to that light. The settings on the light are Luminous Flux (Lumens): 500,000.

Thanks, Laurie! It looks very good. Is it taking forever to render? I'm wondering how "my little computer that could" will handle it. It's definitely not a powerhouse.

Anything in a darkened room is going to take longer to render. There's no getting around that either unfortunately :(. One could add low powered light planes out of camera view to brighten it up a bit I suppose. I didn't in this case just to show that you can lighten up the inside quite well by adjusting the Tone Mapping settings. There is also a door behind the chair there near the camera which can be opened, letting in more light.

Yes, zombies are so overused and have been around so long that one might be tempted to say that zombies are dead. devil

    You left out boring.

  • I have always personally leaned towards dark.  I haven't changed my theme or artistic style all that much except to do promos.

The RDNA stuff is mostly themed that way ever since (or at least as far as I can remember), which is right along the lines of the interests of the PAs who called it home. Not that it was all about the goth and gloom, but it was certainly a large part. That said, the new stuff coming in is still the same mixed natures and niches. Maybe it just seems so because of the existing products that migrated.
