Is it just me, or...

Is it just me, or has anyone else gotten the impression that Daz store content and sales themes have both gotten darker and more morbid since the RDNA merger?  (I know RDNA always tended in that direction, so I'm not referring to the transferred content, just the new stuff since the acquisition.)  I'm not saying this is entirely a bad thing, or completely a good thing--- publishing our value assessments of it can wait until we confirm that it is a thing--- but there does seem to be a definite shift over these past few months.

Always happens around Halloween (in the US).

I noticed it too.  Seems to be a lot of new releases having to do with other worldly beings, normally expected around halloween.

  • There's a definite skew to the dark and ugly.  As long as there's a healthy counter balance with beauty and light it'll all work out in the end.

Obviously it must be selling well.  Which means there probably won't be a counter balance unless that sees a profit as well, based on the logic that gets thrown around all the time.  Prepare for endless dark themes until customers get tired of it  -- and the occasional Elf/fairy.   wink

I agree with what FirstBastion says.

    RawArt is also correct. wink

I think that what im most excited to see from the dark side is clothing that has both normal textures and distressed textures for that special ghost or ghoul in your life.

There seems to be more horror in the store. It didn't help that we had two months of horror with the release of two majors characters with monster expansions.

  • HavosHavos Posts: 5,614

I have also noticed this, it was particularly true during the PC+ sale where almost every day had a horror theme to it. I know that was leading up to Halloween, but then the PC sale is just before Halloween every year, and certainly in the past there was not so many horror items during the PC sales.

However the trend has continued even after Halloween, so we can only assume they are good sellers.

Who is buying all this Elven/fae  stuff?  Based on the "make what sells" line, there must be a HUGE  Elven fan group out there somewhere that is more hidden than the illuminati. because this is the most targeted demographic since V4 over every genesis iteration.  You might not be able to find a pair of bespoke contemporary pants, but you can sure as heck get a ranger cloak to fit any character you have.

I don't know anyone buying fairy stuff. I've seen male and female elves, but not nearly as uch as regular humans.

See, now I can say I know someone who buys it! Win/WIN. I went through my elven phase in the 80's/90s. Now I'm totally burned out.

  • "Fantasy" is a pretty wide genre,  of which elven is only a small component.  I'd say fantasy is huge around here,  hence all the ranger outfits.

I often dip into fantasy wear because a certain subset of it is also good for other stuff, like scifi, vaguely historical stuff, etc.

(Namely, elegant robes, ornate but functional armors, etc)

The boots from the Elven Prince Outfit seem to fit G3F well, any idea how well they fit G2M?

Look like they would make a great starting point for early 20th century Balkan peasant shoes and leg wrappings with new textures.

I intend fitting to G2M so hope Ok

imagine will be, I am a Carrara user and buy stuff with the intention of using with clone fits for compatible figures, so far most stuff fine except capes etc.

  • I don't buy too many elf or fairy specific characters...mainly because you put some pointy ears on anyone and slim them down and bang, you've got an elf. ;)

George made into an elf would be pretty funny.

I like the fantasy outfits.  But, I am getting a large wardrobe full of toga and armor items...LOL

I have noticed a lot of vampires and such in the big ads lately....and of course, the new macabre girls and such.  But, if you look back through to V4...etc., there have always been a lot of that kind of stuff.  If it has surged lately, it's probably because of how popular the vampire thing has been over the past couple of years.

Plus, with PAs like P3D, FWSA, Raiya, LY, E&J, just cranking out the beautiful characters, the go to niche is going to be the fantastic creatures...unless you want to put in the hard hours and do up big detailed environments, ala Stonemason.

Personally, I would bet that a large portion of 3D creators, especially hobbyists, are also into a lot of other creative stuff like fantasy and sci-fi.  So, it's no shock that there's a lot of it up for sale on here.
