Adding new render engines via plugins

Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to hook into DAZ Studio to allow nealy seemless integration of a third party render engine such as Renderman? Yes, I know that 3Delight is a Renderman compliant renderer, but I'm wanting to see if I can make use of the latest version of Renderman in DAZ Studio by writing a plugin for it myself.

Not to take advantage of the latest Renderman shaders.   The paths between 3DL and Renderman have diverged enough that the newest shaders for each are no longer compatible.

You would need to totally replace/convert to new shaders...so it would be a rather complex plugin...along the lines of the Octane plugin.

  • Thanks for that information. I'm not really surprised they diverged, and will have to study the differences to see how to handle shader conversion between the two renderers.

3DL has gone the OSL route and Renderman is doing it's 'own' thing...RIS.

  • Well, with nVidia MDL being available for integration, it looks like I may end up switching to ProRender as my render engine of choice to add.
