Check if there's a skydome in the scene, they usually don't work well with iray

  • Hi and thank you, yeh, i deleted the sky dome and still got a black render ? I also tried it with an hri and still got a black render.

  • tried an uber base lighting and sky that came with the product, yet still get a black render, then deleted all light and hdri and used seperate lights,  still got a black render , no idea whats going on hear.

thats weird..just tried and mine was all black also..that was never like that when the set was originaly released,no idea why it happened, however using the Defaults button resets whatever render settings were causing that and now I can render it with Iray.

  • Thanks. i'll re set the render settings and give it a go, can you save render settings in daz ? after adjusting them for other scenes ?. Thank you.

  • File>Save as>Render Settings Preset, though by default the render settings will be saved and loaded with your scenes.

It's a while since I last rendered anything with this set but I do remember I got quite reasonable results with bog-standard sun-sky lighting.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

  • Thanks. i'll re save the render settings i have and then re set them  . Thank you., I'l let you know how i got on, might be a while as i'm working on project at the moment, but again thanks for taking time to reply. Thank you ALL.

  • Another possibility; the 3Delight lights in the 3Delight scene might auto-convert into Iray at a ridiculously low brightness. Remember, Iray is a very different render engine from 3Delight, and you will need to do some tweaking to get best results. In some cases, you might need to replace the entire lighting setup.

  • Thank you, I did replace the lights, but still got the same results when rendering in Iray, don't know whats going on here,

As noted, make sure the skydome is deleted.  You still aren't going to be out of the woods: the street surface is pretty reflective when auto-converted, and uses displacement maps that don't produce the expected results in Iray.

This is what I got from the default set with skydome deleted, Sun-Sky environment with dome showing (not best choice of directions).  Barely 1% converged, just to give a rough idea.

  • Thank you, still not got a picture yet thats ok, Still trying difereant ways of lighting the scene, will try what you did and see if i can get any further with it, beginning to wonder if was worth buying it , it dosn't say it would only work in 3delight. But for now will keep trying it out.  Thank you.
