This says something about iray and fibermesh, though. I've done the obj conversion before, it was pretty automatic, but if fibermesh is somehow more effcient I should do that!
Definitely.
Like, with some Obj conversions I was ending up with 2-5 gb scene files, possibly even higher. Fibermesh of similar stuff? Maybe 300 mb.
Fiber *mesh* is zBrush and trademarked. LAMH FiberHair is compatible with Iray *and* other rendering engines. Our FiberHair output is significantly less resource intensive than other strand hair products and will become even moreso in the near future.

No kidding. i had a project where the figure was laying down and I needed the hair to spread out and lay on the table. i went with quality settings and the final .OBJ for the hair was just over 400 MB, LOL.
My impression from looking at the more complex human preset freebies at furrythings (the LAMH website) in LAMH editor is that to come up with anything interesting/realistic for humans you have to style and position each clump of hair individually, just like a real world hair stylist would. (Just got through watching someone style the hair on 5-6 members of a wedding party this weekend, and I was struck by the fact that it seemed to be the same kind of fiddly precise work).
I haven't gotten good with LAMH yet, but my feeling that the learning curve is kind of like Optitex Dynamics, in that you need to put in a lot of time playing around and learning what works and what doesn't before you start getting the kind of results you want, and until then your main entertainment is going to be the "puzzle solving" aspect of the process, along with the wacky hijinks that ensue when you push the parameters too far.
Male hair and beards are exactly what I want to use LAMH for.
I know there are currently some stability issues with LAMH. I suspect it takes a hearty machine to handle it well. I also suspect the program takes some diplomacy to use. Still, you seem to be both supporting and improving this product. This is very important, and something not all products can brag about. I'm in the process of making friends with Iray, so your support of it is meaningful to me. In the coming months I plan to install LAMH. Don't stop doing what you're doing.
Not stopping. In fact we're moving forward. There have been some impediments in the way due to situations beyond our control.
I am in contact with the PA for the male hair and they are currently dealing with "personal issues" and the product may be turned over to me for finalizing and sending to DAZ. Don't know quite yet.
As for machines, LAMH works on even the lowest of machine specs. The LAMH FiberHair is currently one of the lightest strand hair formats in existance and the new hair that I've created for use in Iray is even lighter. It is quite likely that the load on the VRAM from it will be smaller than ANY current hair (especially transmapped) on sale in the DAZ store. Current tests put the size of a full set of new LAMH FiberHair at less than just the *textures* of current hairs.
