Is it over for G1,G2F,G2M content?

Just saying...some items that I've been waiting for to come out for earlier Genesis iterations FINALLY come out but for G3 only. Poses in particular that can't be used with older figures, shoes as well. Just wondering if this is going to be standard practice from now on, considering how by contrast V4 is still going strong in my opinion. Lol just saying...

The only people who can give you a definitve answer are the artists who are producing the content for the store.
Wow not game to answer that one, it's like putting a target on your back
I would argue that V4 is not exactly going strong, but is certainly still catered for. Although perhaps it depends where one shops.
Actually what Midnight said, I was considering saying the above, but now, wondering if that is too contentious.
But PAs make what sells, or what they hope will sell. Products of specific genres are more likely to be offered for sale where others of a similar type are also available, to stand a chance of increased exposure.
Why not, truth hurts sometimes. I can't recall seeing much new V4 content sold at DAZ lately, so I don't really know where the "V4 is still going strong" idea came from since third party sellers don't count IMO.
I still buy V4 items...........ONLY if I can use it on Genesis 3 figures, same for other older content. I still use Genesis 2 figures a bit, especially with the cayman UV converter that lets me use Genesis 3 IRAY skins on them. genesis figures are hardly ever used here and I haven't loaded V4 in a very long time. That being said, it's to be expected that DAZ wants PAs to produce items for the latest figures
There is still content for older characters being made, but much of it is made available elsewhere, not here.
That said, do not overlook converters. Sickleyield and others have offered converters here to use newer content with older figures, and Zev0 has pose converters to use older poses with newer figures.
On poses specifically, try using G3F poses on other figures. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not work well. When I do this, I find that the poses generally translate well, although the hands (especially fingers) may have issues - in that case, I simply use hand poses for the target figure.
I can see why people still hold on to V4 stuff even I have more V4 stuff than any out figure and it's hard to let go, as there's a lot of money gone into the collection. The prices now are pretty good compared to then. I guess vendors are really dictated by what the customers buy, not by DAZ or personal choice is, but it's always been that way. So in the end it's up to sales !
what happened to selling hair that includes g2m fits?
no opportunites to indulge my hair fetish this anniversary sale.
saw a few nice ones for g3m, woulda snapped them up if included g2m.
and once i have one thing in cart, opens the way for an extra impulse buy or two.
Since genesis 3 had become the only figure supported in the stores. and I have not much interest in using it for what I use daz for. and the fast grabs change as rarely as the freebie section. I know have saved a heck of lot of money the last few months & the amount I have saved.I put it into painting my house & a new wood crib this fall. Priorities you know..lol
Uh, the OP didn't specify whether they meant just in terms of Daz store or the market at large.
For me, it's kind of a mixed bag. I use G2 mostly, and also G1 and M/V4. I do have a couple of G3 characters, mostly the male ones that fit my taste, and a very selected few, outstanding females. I do buy G3 clothing on occasion, like the 'Hunt or Be Hunted' package, but over all, sales of older, wishlisted stuff not included, my purchases of new, character related releases has dropped by 80-90%.
That's especially true for poses packs, which don't translate from G3 downwards at all.
Fortunately, I still have tons of older generation stuff on my wishlist.
But I do understand that I'm one of the dinosaurs, and that the majority of buyers at this shop seem to buy G3 exclusively.
I enjoy G1 and G2 primarily. The nice thing about V4/M4 stuff is that I can usually use the skins, and most of the time transfer interesting morphs over.
Daz store does look to be moving mostly to Genesis 3. This is somewhat disappointing for me, but on the other hand I have a VERY robust figure collection already and I have hundreds of non-figures I'm interested in getting at some point.
True, but since this is the DAZ forum, makes sense to me that they meant the marketplace here and also why I mentioned "3rd party sellers don't count IMO"
The DAZ store tends to offer primary support for the latest figures. In this case, it's G3 and more new stuff gets produced for female characters than male characters. That's just supply-and-demand for the marketplace so I won't get into that. Outside of DAZ, in general, G3 still seems to attract the most support from vendors because again, the market seems to favor new figures rather than older ones. I haven't seen a new commercial Genesis product in quite a long time but that doesn't mean there isn't some great stuff for Genesis here and elsewhere. If it's for purchase, though, it tends to be old.
The only place I've seen new Genesis and Genesis 2 creations lately is on the freebie sites since freebies aren't as dependant on serving a market and even then, I haven't seen a lot of new Genesis goodies outside of clothing that Ghastly periodically offers. A shame really, as I love using Geneis for most of my aliens and creatures.
Sorry about that. In regards to V4 I didn't feel it necessary to mention other outlets (Renderosity) considering the bulk of my shopping is right here.BUT rendo's venders do save the day on many occasions. Case in point I needed some new high heel pumps for a favorite G2F character and not only were they available but this PA (Mysthero's Classic High Heel Pumps) had versions for G1,G2f,Miki, and V4. Was trying to keep the rant short. Thanks everyone for your awesome feedback!
Im a sucker for a great V4 or G2 costume. The only consideration is cost (duh). G2 ill buy when it has a nice discount (that goes for G3 as well) but V4/M4 outfits have to be really discounted heavily for me to spend on them.
Hi Ivy.Yeah G3 is a blessing in disguse in that regard.
Usually I don't mind poses too much, heaven knows there are plenty of 'em all over. But when they're meant to be used with a specific set for which I don't have any poses or can't adapt the ones I already own to work with it I'd snap them up right away. Only trouble is, lately they're all made for a figure I don't use. Same way with hair, that used to come with at least Genesis 2 fits but I hardly see those any more. Now if I were using only Daz Studio it wouldn't matter but since none of this works in Poser (without much sledge-hammering and then only partly, so I'm told) ... yeah, I'm saving a fortune on new shinies since the 3's came out. :sigh: Heck, I'll probably be rich by the time Genesis 4 hits the scene -- and most likely won't work in only the very latest Daz-Connect-up-the-wazoo-needs-a-thousand-plus-dollar-Nvidia-GPU-to-operate version of Studio.
I'm starting to think I need a new hobby. Maybe I'll take up cat wrangling, it's gotta be less frustrating than this. ;-)
Oh, I think V4 & M4 sell fine but it's mostly to people that have these autofit utilities that they have bought to use those old clothes with Genesis 3. They look too good and are too good a bargain not to buy if you are doing anything other than calendar pinup style renders. I but interest would evaporate in those old characters and clothing if they were priced like Genesis 3 characters. I couldn't afford to buy that whole catalogue of old clothing if it were all re-released as customized for Genesis 3 at Genesis 3 prices. Unless you are doing iRay I don't even see a need for Genesis 3 unless there are specific Genesis 3 clothing sets you lack and even for that I believe recently people have asked for autofit utilities to fit Genesis 3 clothing on Genesis 2 and Genesis and V4/M4. Also I have seen conversion products to make old V4/M4, Genesis, and Genesis 2 products have decently good iRay shader material set ups. Yes, it costs a pretty penny to buy all those utilities, I still don't have all the ones I need, but once you have them you are pretty much set against the problem that there is no new content for you old generation characters having any validity.
Maybe in the future if they ever introduce muscular, fat, hair, and clothing movement/posing and animations in Genesis 4 or later (although I'm not sure, maybe those techniques are applicable to current Genesis - Genesis 3 / V4/M4 if the software was capable as I don't know about the internals) then you'd have a good reason to upgrade you people models but now it's not really so necessary for rendering.
EVERY outfit has to be discounted heavily for me to spend on them. :) I spend a lot of time doing custom textures for existing older outfits in my own renders. Filter Forge can be your friend!
it really depends if you use DAZ studio or other software.
As a Carrara user V4 etc still are prefered by me though I prefer Genesis 3 for export to iClone, if I do use DAZ studio I actually prefer Genesis and its unisexual features!!
I hope not.
Going to throw in a teaser here...
Yes, this is a freebie and it's finally done. After about 3 yrs, I finished it. It's Genesis...and, well, here's a pic...
He's a little small for a three-year-old. :) Just kidding! He looks great and thank you for keepng the Genesis flame burning!!! I can't wait till you upload this kid.
I'm still rendering icons and promo shots...he should be up later tonight.
He comes with both 3DL and Iray materials...based on the default K4 skin in the Genesis Starter essentials.
And for things like this and creatures/monsters/aliens, Genesis is definitely the easier one to work with.
Oh...and it works with other Genesis figures...like the troll.
I'll throw myself on that grenade again, Midnight Stories. XD
With a few exceptions, Daz PAs pretty much have to support whatever the newest figure is. I do back-conversion facilitation products for this exact reason; new stuff is not going to be made a lot for Gen 4, Genesis and Genesis 2 (or indeed for G3 when inevitably another generation comes out). But with clones and fixers you can keep using new content on G1 and up.
There are hiccups in this process that increase the work load of conversion when it's a switch from parametric to TriAx and TriAx to dual quaternion, of course, but it's still not impossible with things like templates. This is important to me because I actually still use G1 and G2 in my promotional images (I sell a reasonable amount of prop sets and lighting jobbies, etc. that are figure-neutral as well as the ones that have to incorporate poses and are therefore generally just for G3 now).
That baby is good.
daz has plenty of autofit options that work really well. i buy outfits from v4/m4 to g3 and can fit any item to any character within that range with great success. even crossdressing is made easy if needed.
The baby is posted...

In a recent (as in sometime with the past 11 months) I remember hearing Arki say that she does content for both G2F and G3F. I think there might be a few other vendors that do also. *waves politely at SickleYield*
Not sure if you saw this today, but this has poses for Genesis 2 and Genesis 3: http://www.daz3d.com/superhero-poses-for-genesis-2-and-3
And I know Takio-Yakida(?) has done some pose sets recently that include versions for both as well. Those are pretty good.
But for the most part, yeah, it seems like people are going where current interests lie. Even the Poser-dominant/biased Rendo has had a giant influx of Genesis 3 product and material in the past year or so, too, despite the fact Genesis 3 isn't even (officially) supported in Poser at this time, unlike Genesis 2 with DSON. But between freebies on ShareCG and elsewhere, plus conversion tools (SickleYield is amazing and a gem that must be protected at all costs because of the stuff they've made) like GenX and whatnot, it's becoming less and less painless to switch/upgrade to Genesis 3.
Although if someone like Zev0 made a pose conversion tool that transferred Genesis 3 poses to Genesis 2 framework, then I guarantee you they'll make a pretty mint and then some on it, haha.
