Is it over for G1,G2F,G2M content?

Sadly I use G2 as much as possible, genesis 1 rarely and v4/m4 if I have to. I'm pretty much refusing to go to G3 yet as I'm really only about halfway through my G2 use. There are more and more products to get v4/m4/g1 and g2 to g3, but I would really love to see stuff to go from g3 down to g2. I know I can lose special morphs on clothes and use the rigging transfer to get them to g2, but then there's poses, skins and morphs (which could probably work with genx but I don't have that yet)

  • I'll throw myself on that grenade again, Midnight Stories. XD

With a few exceptions, Daz PAs pretty much have to support whatever the newest figure is.  I do back-conversion facilitation products for this exact reason; new stuff is not going to be made a lot for Gen 4, Genesis and Genesis 2 (or indeed for G3 when inevitably another generation comes out).  But with clones and fixers you can keep using new content on G1 and up.

There are hiccups in this process that increase the work load of conversion when it's a switch from parametric to TriAx and TriAx to dual quaternion, of course, but it's still not impossible with things like templates.  This is important to me because I actually still use G1 and G2 in my promotional images (I sell a reasonable amount of prop sets and lighting jobbies, etc. that are figure-neutral as well as the ones that have to incorporate poses and are therefore generally just for G3 now).

    SickleYield thank you.

I wouldn't say "over", just the harsh reality that they're no longer flavor of the month. I buy new DAZ Genesis 1 content whenever it pops up, but I've accepted that it's a rarity. And there'll always be some older products in the store for it, given it's built-in compatibility with Generation 4 items (heck, even Generation 3 items work well enough with a little tweaking). I bought Sickleyield's Genesis 2 M/F clones for Genesis way back, which expands the versatility of my Genesis 1 library even further.

In the meantime, Genesis 2 is still going to have products for it coming in, though it's going to be slowing down as Genesis 3 figures are the focus, and that's ok.That's always going to happen every few years. And even with that, there's still other cool stuff like props, scenes, etc. that will still work with the older figures.

To me, it's like a Playstation 2 or SNES situation. Yeah, the shiny new consoles are going to come out and new stuff for my beloved ones will trickle down to nothing, but there's an entire library I have to fill up with very likely bargain basement prices, so it's all good. smiley

Greatly summarized :) I think same.
Anyway, Genesis is a versatile figure (whenever it's 1, 2 or 3 (or furthermore, since all the sales we got, I think the Genesis 4 (so Victoria 8) generation hit the market next month !) with some scripts, tweaks.

Also, there is other website where you can share and download assets (in all legality), like ShareCG, DeviantART & co.

So.. I'm also happy with what I got during the PC+ sale, for myself, I will stop here, I need now a break, A LONG break :D (around playing with my new toys purchased from DAZ3D !)

  • yes sadly DAZ been robbing me blind with all the RDNA stuff.

I don't care for the previous generation men. I sometime buy m4 poses and convert them but in general I decline to buy older stuff because I like the detail the new figures offer and conversion support is not always a guarantee. Particularly for male figures there are some rather annoying figure shape issues. I may use Genesis for monsters but I just can't see paying full price for a gen 4-gen 2 item since I wouldn't use it hardly at all.

For me, it's kind of a mixed bag. I use G2 mostly, and also G1 and M/V4. I do have a couple of G3 characters, mostly the male ones that fit my taste, and a very selected few, outstanding females. I do buy G3 clothing on occasion, like the 'Hunt or Be Hunted' package, but over all, sales of older, wishlisted stuff not included, my purchases of new, character related releases has dropped by 80-90%.

That's especially true for poses packs, which don't translate from G3 downwards at all.

Fortunately, I still have tons of older generation stuff on my wishlist.

But I do understand that I'm one of the dinosaurs, and that the majority of buyers at this shop seem to buy G3 exclusively.

..same here, I still love my Aiko 3 characters (particularly the original Aikobot).  I also have Gen X + the G3 update and am able to transfer morphs as well as even full legacy characters to G2/G3. What bothers me is with each new Genesis release, backwards compatibility shrank I wouldn't be surprised if Genesis 4 no longer had any compatibility with Gen4.

I enjoy G1 and G2 primarily. The nice thing about V4/M4 stuff is that I can usually use the skins, and most of the time transfer interesting morphs over.

Daz store does look to be moving mostly to Genesis 3. This is somewhat disappointing for me, but on the other hand I have a VERY robust figure collection already and I have hundreds of non-figures I'm interested in getting at some point.

...skins have been one of my major issues with G3.  Due to the change in map structure older skins were no longer compatible without hacks or resorting to some form of converter. I for one cannot afford a huge stable of characters at an average of 18$ - 20$ a pop just to get different skins. What will finally open it up for me is the release of Skin Builder Pro3.

The other sites seem to be chugging along with some G2 stuff still :). Maybe not as much as they once did, but I still see new stuff come out for the Genesis 2's now and then.
