And I don't think I see a definitive of wether or not the belt is easily hidden?

Gotta say this and the Army uniform by the same artists are kind of disappointing.  I bought the Army battle dress, but.. those boots are just awful.  And the shoes with this one....so wrong for a formal dress uniform.

Well, the belt can be easily hidden, it's a separate materials zone... but... well, see for yourself. wink

It's located a bit too high, right below the chest instead of slightly more down the waist, that's why it gives off a weird vibe. I compared it to the real dress uniforms, and while the belt sits a bit higher than with your regular pant& coat, it's not sitting quite that high. It's really not much, just a tidbit., maybe  5-10 cm.

    From Wiki:

    The product:

Otherwise, a really good looking product.

But whose military is it modelled after? I don't think any. It seems like it's a fantasy outfit so I think comparing it to what 'should' be where is kind of moot.

Even if it is not modeled off of a particular military uniform, it seems to be modeled off existing navel military uniforms in the real world (which many sci-fi uniforms do as well) which is probably the way most people would wish to use it.   Adding that belt with such an awkward placement really marrs it imho, and will probably cost some sales from people who don't want to go through the hassle of having to remove it.  Bad design choice in my opinion.   A no belt feature would have been a better option.  Sometimes trying to be unique is unnecessary.

Couldn't agree more!!!! At first glance i was so excited as i have been wanting a military dress uniform forever and then looking at it in detail, it is so wrong on many levels and  totally unusable for me, even as a fantasy or sci fi uniform. How hard would it have been to look up military dress uniform on google to get an idea of what one looks like.

I sincerely hope this doesn't stop anyone else that is working on one to stop their work. This is a small market afterall and as far as i am concerned there is still a need for a military dress uniform.

I'm still working on the Marine Blue Dress.  I just havn't gotten back to working on it.

I want it. It looks so much better thjan the current new release.

I don't really want today's but I considered it because of the Gift Card discount; but I think I'll get Nathy's swimsuit instead.

I'll remind everyone that somebody worked hard on that. Let's be nice and maybe a little more tactful?

  • If this had had an option to use it without the belt, I would have bought.

  • I wonder if the belt position can be moved using Fit Control. I dont know what that would do to the overall shape and texture but I suppose its worth a shot... if one has Fit Control.

Seems odd not to have modelled the polygons under the belt, I would have thought it would have been less work leaving them in. Maybe some sort of enviromental "Save the Polygon" campaign going on.

Thanks for the image BeeMKay. Saves me the trouble of buying and returning. That's just too much work. Gutted :-(

Thank you for showing this information. I've deleted the product from my cart, sadly.

  • Ack that is too bad. If it was just removable I'm sure that people would buy it. I did buy it anyway. Looks easy enough to remove in Photoshop.

I think now having considered the outfit the Belt and lines do give the jacket a maternity quality.

Yeah Will, I agree.  While I'm not necessarily happy with it, I'm willing to work with it, and it does happen to be the best military uniform for Genesis 3 we have at present.  Just looking at it, it really looks good, and the texture choices are well choosen.

I think overall most people like the outfit..just not the one element. Hence the buzz the product has generated.

who is not nice here ?

and working hard has nothing to do with quality

critics are important for the quality level

The belt also lost me the sale, but also the fact that its American. I'd love to see a few more Brithish uniforms please.

Funny. I thought it looked more Russian than American, after googling images for military dress uniforms...

It certainly doesn't remind me of any American uniforms. (Forgot to mention, I live in Oregon, USA)

No definitely not Russian the brim of the hats not tall enough and angled wrong, the dress uniform has the rank on the shoulders belt being right above the hips, see them everyday after coming from USA to Moscow, one in the store looks more like merchant marine with the hat being more like the ships captain

It's like with the outfits real life designers create - some designs get the gush and glory, some get the "Wow, but..." response from the puzzled audience. For me, the end result is, I bought the uniform, and it will serve its purpose.  heart

Agreed. If money is involved, it is a business and cirticism, sometimes harsh comes with the territory. While I have much respect for the vendor, similar disussions as this came up with the military outfit they did earlier and you would think that the criticisms would have benefitted the future designs. As a modeler myself this isn't a skill issue, it's a design issue which could have been fixed

I don't think anyone was particularly rude or deserving of any sort of wrist slap here.

People were honest about something that someone else expected them to pay money for.

    I could have been untactful. I wasn't.

  • The pants is good. Can we have render of the pants by its self? Nicely modeled pants for males are so hard to come by.

  • I would but my computer is in the repair shop right now. I'll have to wait to play with this set.

To me the belt looked 'decorative only' from the beginning. It doesn't seem to function as a belt. Strange place to put it, but it might as well be a sewn on feature of the tunic.

Definitely not real world. But it doesn't claim to be. I viewed it as SF or fantasy if anything.

Looks really great. My only observation would be that it looks pretty tight to how a Marines dress uniform actually looks. Aside from that, I still prefer the look of yours over the one in the store.

Yup I'll be fixing those issues.   That render was done 3 months ago.

Also looks like the belt is over top of the 6th button down and that there is a button showing underneath the belt. But probably only real sticklers and Marines and exMarines will notice. LOL

    Great work :)

The other thing I'm expecting would be a problem with that particular design are for users that want to autofit the uniform to female figures.   That belt placement would then seem even more strange.  Usually you don't find a lot of decorative touches to male clothing so they many times work even better on female figures than the same costume  designed for a female character which more cases than not seem to get sexed up in ridiculous ways.

Surprisingly enough, the uniform looks rather good on the girls. The belt is also not looking so much out of place as with the guys. Here's a test render with two Genesis 2 females on the left (the middle one is Ninive 6), and Bethany 7. I used autofit, and found that the shirt works best if you fit it as knee-length dress. Outside of pokethrough fic for Bethany 7, I left the breast region untouched, but you can certainly make it look even better if you use one of the anti-shrinkwrapping tools.

Though, after working with the uniform a bit, I got used to the belt placement. It was worth buying the outfit, in any case, even if it's not a replica of real-ife uniforms.

What I really find missing is a morph for the ankle region of the pants. The rim of the pants gets into all sorts of collision problems with the shoes, and there's no way to fix it easily, unless you go into the bones of the pants, and that sometimes leads to weird results.
