KindredArts: Farmyard - A++
in The Commons
Looks like KindredArts has knocked another one out of the park with The Farmyard.

Some great trees that can be used in other renders, as well. Yippee!

Indeed.
I have no use for it and am tempted. Maybe; I'll see if there is a new Pro pack tomorrow, it just might squirm its way into my runtime then. :)
Same here. I wanted it, but didn't really need it. But it was the only New Release that I even wanted, and adding it to my cart knocked the total price down by about $10.00, so it was a pretty easy choice to make! :)
Pay me money to add it to my cart? I'm in!
Does the background scene of hills and trees come with it? I don't see it in the itemized list.
The hills appear to be from an HDRI. :) The advantage to this is that you can place the farm in any environment. I may toss it into the TD3 shortly and see how it looks. :)
Hi guys, thanks for the thread! Just a couple of notes:
The trees are constructed with a new hybrid method i'm trying out. 50% Mesh leaves/50% transmapped branches. So they look good up close, and appear more bushy and dense at distance. This is done at almost half the render cost of a full poly tree, so they won't cause your pc to whimper.
The background hills i've used in the promos are added in post. I couldn't get my hands on an HDRI that really worked, most of them were a bit to *close*. The landscape panorama i used is from CGTextures (or just textures.com now). I made sure the scene is as closed off as possible so you can slip a background in without it looking jarring. I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post a link to the panorma i used, but it's pretty easy to track down.
Again, the support is much appreciated, hope you all enjoy it! :)
Looks nice, was this European inspired? I ask as I have a few relatives that live on farms and none have brick walls around them and the buildings look a bit diffeent. Too bad about the background, I would buy it just for the hills HDRI, it really adds to the look and feel.
To quote the store page:
This set is giving me an almost deja vue like experience because it looks so familiar I feel I should recognise the actual place but I can not quite actually place it.
Yes, i used a few farms close by for reference, I live in the UK. Some are walled off, some are not - But i wanted this set to be walled off so customers could use their own backgrounds without a jarring horizon line.
I couldn't find a HDRI that really fit the bill for this set. There were a few that came close, but they usually had something like a tree or building too close to the camera. I ended up using a HDRI very similiar to the background shown for lighting, then slipped in a more distant panorama in photoshop. It's a bit more leg work, but i had better control of the final renders. Swings and roundabouts i suppose.
That's exactly what I plan to do with this. It will make it a very versatile set. Especially with both an interior and an exterior. I have seen this type of barn/yard in Germany with both walls and not walls. This was also one of the only things I was really interested in today. (everything else is beautiful and looks very well made but I don't really have a use for it at the moment.)
Spooky! It's not a 1:1 Remake of an actual working farm, more of a combination of a few farms close by. I live in Lancashire in the UK if that helps? Then again, i imagine they were all built in a similar fashion, I've seen similar styles in Romania, Germany and France.
I like it alot. It looks great. Do you plan on releasing a farm house to go along with it?
Funny you mention that, i actually started a little rural cottage a while back but i made it a bit to small. When i get time i'll probably finish it off and give it away as a freebie. Other than that i'll probably have another stab at a bigger farm house later on in the year.
Yeah, I think it is just my brain being confused because all the individual elements look so familiar, including the backdrop. I live in London nowadays but grew up in rural West Sussex, and, as you say, this type of farmyard is ubiquitous. I think you've done an excellent job of modelling one!
Thank you, very much appreciated. It's always a bit of a risk straying away from american architecture, because people may not have an affinity with your work. However, people from all over the place tend to like european sets ... perhaps it reminds them of being on holiday? Not sure, but i'm glad people like it :)
Even though I live in America and grew up here I would far rather see architecture from anywhere but here.... Especially European type architecture, much of it has such an old world feel to it (being that some of its hundreds of years old lol) that I find beautiful. And is perfect for fantasy renders as well.
A link would be fine, since it's in reply to a question (well, as long as it isn't in a section of images from nudist beaches).
Killjoy!
Well that's a fresh perspective, never really thought about it that way. On the other hand there is a lot of neoclassical or colonial architecture in america that i have a great fondness for, not to mention the nifty skyscrapers.
I grew up around farms, and it kind of looked familiar; one of the things that impressed me.
It's stunning. Very realistic and would work for so many things. In my cart now.
The background that comes with Merlin's Wild Borders might work well there; it's similar countryside.
Thanks for the info!
Hi KindredArts,
Just purchased the Farmyard. I have to agree with several of the comments here, that the set looks amazing. I also picked up the Gastro pub and European suburb, and now looking forward to making some English countryside renders.
I would also like to voice my support for an English/European farmhouse to go with the farmyard if you ever considered making this. I would also dearly love to see a thatched cottage like Kirrin Cottage was in the Enid Blyton 'famous five' stories. Both would be instant purchases for me.
Many thanks, and looking forward to your future creations.
Thank you!
No Problem, hope it helps.
Thanks for your support, and the best of luck with your renders!
There will be a farmhouse at some point, i just need to set aside some serious man-hours to get it done. Full interior/exterior sets are no small feat, and i don't like rushing sets. It will be done, and it will be done as best i can, watch this space. :)
Two things that I especially want to thank you for:
1) Including a greyscale image in your product descriptions, especially with the roof partially removed. This makes it very easy to see exactly what we are getting.
2) Responding on these forums, being pleasant, and speaking with us. The fact that you are a nice person does add weight to my decision as to whether or not I wish to purchase an artist's work. You're in!
+1 to both of these. Not that I don't buy from vendors that don't post in the forums, I do, but I have to admit that the vendors who interact here and are willing to spend their precious free time with us, well, I appreciate it and it truly does make the items more valuable in my eyes as it gives an added value to *know* a bit about the artist and how they go about making things. And it also gives me a deeper appreciation of just how much work goes into this stuff.
lol I am sure that no matter what you decide to tackle it will be very well done. I personally don't have much use for skyskrapers as my art leans heavily toward medieval and fantasy although some of the more modern stuff lends itself will to sci fi too. But there are plenty of people who also love that stuff. I'm just not a city girl I guess lol.
Hey PeterCat! Thanks again for the thread.
1. I pretty much do an AO render for everything now. I like people to know as much as possible before buying since i really don't want anyone to be disappointed.
2. Well hey, it's nice to be nice. I'm incredibly grateful to anyone who chooses to support my work, and it's truly uplifting to see people making use of it. Also, it's such a niche field that the only people i can talk shop to is you guys :)
It's a privilege to do what we do, and it's easy to forget that when you are stressed out and on deadline. I can't speak for other vendors, but i think that communication can be invaluable on here. I get so many PMs suggesting different sets or themes, and it's pretty cool to be trusted with the creation of that idea. It's a give and take relationship, and i'm happy to pull my weight. Daz has a really warm community, and it's great that so many people see their purchases and *supporting the artist* rather than just *buying a product*. So hats off to all of you.
I really haven't dipped my toe in the fantasy pool yet, but i do love me some sci-fi! In-fact i currently have a sci-fi set on my WIP thread. Other than that, i'd really like to tackle a castle at some point ... another one on the list :)
Here ya go:
Merlin's Wild Borders, Iray Worlds Skydomes Sun and Sky, wonderful detail. I really like the way the water came out, in the sunlight and in the shadow of the plants. (Figure is G3F Willow with Hobby Clothes and Long Shag Hair, I was going for an Irish look.)
So, why no rain prop, then?

This is really great Farm set. I thank you Kindred arts for making this set for both Iray and 3dl it was one of the major contributing factors for me buying this set. I like to use Iray for still renders. But still prefer to use 3dl for animation. so it makes this set very versatile for me. it also pairs up well with Magixs Iray sky domes. which is what I used for this render
