What Threads do you Bookmark?

There are a lot of threads that have a lot of good info for newbs and people who know their way around Daz, but I realize that I tend to stumble upon them mostly by chance.  So I was wondering what are some of the discussions you bookmark that you find yourselves coming back to for useful info that takes your Daz game to the next level?

Some of the threads I've bookmarked are :
Will's Tips:  Fairly new but Will's renders are great, he's always experimenting and discovering new stuff.

Fiddling With Iray Skins:  because we're always fiddling trying to get that perfect skin render.

Who Said Blender Was Hard?:   Blender and Daz actually make a great combination, and with Blender, having people who already know the program explain it is a great asset.

Approaching Realism in Daz Studio and Gamma Correction Demystified:   Because basically I'm a photographer, who can't afford models and locations all the time, and Daz is a way for me to see how those ideas that I can't get live might have looked if I could.  So all threads on realism interest me.

Those are just a few of the ones I find a follow fairly regularly, and even though some are above my head at present, I look forward to the point where I can put their lessons to work.

I've got about 90 bookmarked because that is much faster than searching through the forums for old tech advice & I don't like taking advantage of helpful people by asking questions that have been answered in the forums. I find that technical DAZ Studio advice doesn't make for good search engine material in trying to find technical help so the forum bookmarks on technical subjects are very useful.

I've bookmarked almost all of the ones you mentioned, plus I follow some of the product threads, for products I own (like Mec4D's Shaders Vol 2 thread, the Star 2.0 thread, the Terradome 3 thread, among others) and various threads related to non-photo real/toon rendering.

Oh, and I follow the LAMH thread too.

Most of the above, plus Novica's product review thread, Wilmap's thread and, at the moment, a few 'New to Carrara? Here's how to get the best from this fabulous feature!' sort of threads. I seldom use a lot of my bookmarks though, as most of the threads I visit regularly are so popular with everyone else that they're usually bobbing about up near the top of the forums somewhere.

Thanks!  BTW, periodically check the very first post as I add links there for helpful things. I happened to add up the seven threads this morning and there's about 415,000 posts/views, with 25,000 new views (Not counting posts) a month, so it's nice to know the older threads are getting found (always linked from my first post of whatever thread I'm on.)  Most of the products showcased in there are still sold and featured in the store on a regular basis. Also,  forum members are SUPER nice to answer questions in general. (Just this morning, Saba Taru explained what ALBEDO was in textures. If you're not very technical, you'll feel right at home lol!)

For myself, I always skim The Commons and The Art Studio, these are a few (not all) of the ones I recommend checking out in Art Studio:  SereneNight,  Knittingmommy, TabascoJack Book Covers (by Kathryn, who passed away, but it's still a very active thread), Llola Lane's Render A Month Challenge, Ice Dragon's Art, Bigh's Renders and Animation. If you use the Sim Tenero Randomizer, you'll like that thread.  Non-photorealistic renders thread is nice too. There's really too many to mention, but those will get you started.

In Commons,  Fiddling With Iray Skin Settings,  and Show Us Your Iray Renders.

  • Too many I guess.  I bookmark the ones I reply in otherwise I cannot find them again.

  • There seem to be pleny of forums for the use of Iray (some I've bookmarked and I'm starting from pg 1 and going through them slowly like a college textbook).  Does anyone know of any forums for Reality 4?  I've purchased it, but I really haven't done much with it, other than to see how screwed up a scene that renders well in 3DL, or Iray will look if I use it.

Probably the only place that you might find a dedicated forum to Reality would be on Paolo's own site,  however there is a thread here in the Art Studio

I bookmark the threads I make a comment in that might potentially violate one of the TOS rules.  I do this so that if the thread disappears I can be assured that I'm not losing my mind about the thread actually existing to begin with. surprise

Post your iray renders, the Starwars Render thread and the Superheros render thread mostly. Flash sale alerts I visit often, but it rarely goes past page 2, so no need to bookmark. I also visit the SimTenero Randomizer thread quite a bit, but it's not'hard to find, so no need for a bookmark. Will Tips is mostly about experimenting, 3Delight or procedural shaders, none of which apply to/interest me, plus it's popular for now, so it's easy to find. The NPR thread is interesting, but since i am not a postwork person and like realism, no need to bookmark. I also like the Renders that Time forgot thread, but I just wait for it to pop up from time to time

I try to minimalize how many bookmarks I have since they can add up fairly quick. With the new PC being only a few months old and starting my bookmarks from scratch on Win 10, I already have folders for 3D, Sims, Flightsim, First Person Shooters, Media, Personal, Gaming General, Design Resources and Geography with lots of bookmarks in each of them already.

  • @Novica  Thanks! It's always nice to know someone is reading it.  :)

I'm usually in the Art Studio, but I like to spread myself all over.  I have a ton of bookmarks, but here are the ones I'll read either on a daily basis or when they get activity if not daily:

    Novica's thread
    Serene Knight's Sci-Fi Fun
I lurked for the longest times in those two threads, but I've started talking a little bit.  I'll probably do that until they kick me out.  :)
    Ice Dragon's Art
    Dracorn's Render Thread
TabascoJack's House of Hot Sauce and Art  I love that name!!!
    Book Covers
    Non-Photorealistic Renders (NPR)
    SimTennero Randomizer Showcase
Just about any of timmins.william's threads because I'm always sure to learn something.  :)
I tend to lurk in Llola's threads, too.  I don't think I've posted anything there yet.
DestinysGarden has Texture thread in the Art Studio that hasn't been active as she's so busy, but I hope that she pops in has another texture class soon.

I don't bookmark it as it really doesn't need it, but I'm usually in the New User Contest threads, too, when I'm not swamped with projects.  I, also, lurk in the Bryce, Hexagon, and Carrara Forums.  I love the Show your Pictures threads in each of them.

In the Commons, probably the two biggest threads I keep up with are Michael and Friends Appreciation Association and Show Us Your Iray Renders.  But, also:
    Who said Blender was hard?
Look At My Hair Official Thread and the new Cool LAMH Renders

There are a lot of others that I watch from time to time. There are some relative new comers that I'm watching, too.

  • I like Novica's thread and the Michael and friends appreciation thread.  I tend to read the forums pretty equally except for some reason threads about techniques.

Just discovered a thread on  Lighting Interiors for Natural Light Iray.   Very helpful with some very good examples spread throughout.

In fact I'm finding pretty much all the Threads on lighting to be expecially helpful;  but I can't seem to find any threads specifically geared to Reality 4.
