Back in the '90s my other half and I had a "Z" scale setup on about a 2x3 foot plywood board.  No fancy mountains but we did have a double oval with a trainyard in the center.  A circus train, a freight train and a trolly along with assorted village buildings, roads, trees and power lines.  I wired all the switch controls into an empty VHS tape case.  Our plan was to build a coffee table around it under glass but he died before it was completed and I ended up selling it and other hobbies we'd done together.

It's hard for me to think of selling anything that belonged to my husband. sad  Lord knows, we fought like tigers, but I sure miss him.

I'm pretty sure when I kick the bucket, my wife is gonna rent a bulldozer... Not one of those piddly little backhoes, or bobcats... I'm talking one of those big tracked D11s with the big ripper blades in the back, and she is gonna run over all my crap till its in tiny pieces, dig a big hole, push it in and set it all on fire. No maliciousness to it, I just think that after 25 years, she is sick of it all, all my junk, all my contraptions, all of the weird stuff nobody but me knows what it's for... I'm pretty sure one of my daughters is gonna take most of the tools and some of the sci fi stuff, but the rest is bulldozer fodder.

    Wow. laugh

  • Complaint: One of my online games is downloading all of the files again.  Ugg.. I think the game is 6.5 gigabytes in size.  I need to wait for the download to finish.  In the meantime, the download is using a lot of internet bandwidth.  I think that is the right term.

I am so with you there Jan. OK I know it's still very new and thus raw to me, but I do keep thinking about a clear out of some stuff.  Thinking is as far as it has got so far.  We never fought though. I think that makes it harder.

I was a mess for months after my otherhalf died.  It wasn't till a year later that I'd stop spontaneously wailing when I heard a certain music piece.  Hugs.

Second BSoD of the night complaint

What in the world are you doing to your computer?  I run several big applications at the same time and leave the computer running all the time, reboot seldom, and I haven't had a BSoD in over a year.  Before that maybe as long.

in the old days, blue screens meant a driver conflict, usually video, or bad clusters on a hdd,

disable a comport to save the irq, irq days long gone, or do they lurk underneath all the wizzbang  lol

that 640k of memory was so precious. forcing mouse drivers into highermemory, needed the whole 640k to play raiders of the lost ark off 1.44 floppy disk

I was not happy about selling stuff.  If I had my 'druthers I'd 'druther keep stuff.  But losing your income & home for 7 years tends to affect one's priorities.  I have photos, recordings, and memories and in the end I won't be able to take any of that with me anyway.  It was just things.  Besides, I learned a long time ago attachments are the cause of pain.  I learned to let go.

No, no -- I'm not criticizing.  I'm sorry if I gave that impression.  I wish I could let go.  That's a huge problem.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

And I'm not retorting.  Sorry if I gave that impression.  Just explaining my lack of emotion over not keeping stuff.  Besides if one were able to acquire and keep everything, where would one put it? surprise  Hugs.

My quandry.  I keep reorganizing and finding space...somehow.

    the storm watch is saying

PREPARE FOR UP TO 2 TO 4 FEET OF INUNDATION .
    what does that mean?
i thought inundation meant when you have a lot of work to do at the dayjob.

PREPARE FOR TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF 39 TO 57 MPH
is there a wind per weight ratio math?  so like, would 57mph knock down a 140lb person?

if i stop for a cosmo on the way home, can pink up some pinot grigiot and somethin a lil stronger. smiley
gonna have the breadmachine running all night. give me a few days of bread nomms in case power goes.

this storm not gonna be nowhere near hurricane sandy. was out 8 days of power from sandy, but supposedly they've upgraded power line structure since then. ?

inspired to render some rainy scenes.  carrara particles can make fun stuff happen.

Means flooding. 2-4 feet of it. What's the elevation there?

I think that might mean rain. :-)  There is a lot of rain to this storm, but it soaked into the ground real quick here.

Please, stay inside during the squalls.  The heavy winds that may or may not bring rain.  One of those made me dig my heels into the ground.

It is difficult to make a dog go outside during a squall.

It's really not been that bad though.  No tree branches loose and blowing all over the yard, thank goodness.

Figured you'd make it through.  But thought your power might be out.

    My rule of thumb:

Category 1 hurricanes are messy but not particularly dangerous unless you live on water or shore, or in a trailer park or under big trees or are stupid.

Cat 2 are dangerous.  You don't go for a walk or drive in them and it's a real mess to clean up your yard and the streets afterward.  Power may be out for a day or so.

Cat 3 is hunker down and eat all the ice cream after the power goes out and be prepared for a week without power.  Have plenty of towels and buckets and mops ready for broken windows and punctured roofs.

Cat 4 is be prepared to evacuate and have a plan to leave early in case you're in an iffy location.  There a LOTS of iffy locations.   Check your insurance policy

Cat 5 is run!  Run away!  Be prepared to rebuild or move.

UGH... a week without power in Florida in summer is no fun.  Unless you live on the beach and your house didn't blow away and you're a surfer.

I don't know what category the storm was when it hit here, but the treetops whipped around pretty well.

I guess I am stupid for taking the dog out during a squall, but it was first thing in the morning.  I knew the poor little thing was miserable though, along w/being totally freaked out.

ROFL, my mama told me this morning she thought she had 75 cats.  I guess she was worried about them blowing everywhere.

I asked why she didn't get the original fixed.  She said there wasn't an original.

There is no way she has 75 cats.  No way.

LOL   I do tend to empathise with her.  When I am trying to get 2 cats locked away in the back area when the shopping delivery turns up early, I am sure that they multiply 3 or 4 times.  I do ask them to phone if they want to arrive early, so I can get the cats locked up before the fascinating van man turns up on the door step.   My 2 newish cats are indoor cats, Go out in the garden on leads, and are very good at=bout having their leads put on,  However the front door and shopping deliveries are different. Cats are of course curious by nature.

I edited the cats out of the earlier post, but now they're back. smiley  I hated to make my mama look irresponsible.

How the cats got to Mama's is a sad story, so I won't go into it.  I think by the time she got concerned about the numbers, it was too  late.

They do have a good place to live.  An old, old house, with plenty of rats.

I hope you don't have 75 cats one day. :-)
