Is there a modern (non futuristic) compound bow available? Or do I hack one out of 3dwarehouse?

Seriously, this is sort of hard to find. Besides the one in the future wilderness and mercenaries weapons packs (scaling looks off), I can't find a good poseable compound bow.

Any ideas?

unless it's made for DS or poser, it won't be poseable anyway due to the rigging or lack thereof.

if you really need one, there are some great models here that will work in DS, some may need a file conversion to .OBJ

One way to get around the lack of rigging is make sure all the vertices on the string are in the middle, then add a deformer to that section and you can pretty much pull the string back where ever you want

  • The scaling on this one looks off http://www.daz3d.com/mercenary-soul-weapons  ?

I ask because I recently did a photo session with a professional archer, and that one is almost dead on to her compound bow.

Looks too big to me. I have two in RL and they are smaller, but it's an easy fix for the virtual one, just rescale it

http://www.daz3d.com/mercenary-soul-weapons is about right for a Bear type compund.  In fact, I have compund bows both larger and smaller than this.  I have an O'neida that is so long that no commerically available bow case will hold it, and I have some Matthews that are so tiny that you wouldn't think the draw length would work for someone with long arms like myself.  This particular bow is pretty close in size to my Bear Whitetail Hunter II in both size and look.

EDIT:  The bow is slightly "too thick" in the handle from front to back, but otherwise is within sizes of real compunds on the market.  A very small amount of scaling in the direction of the draw will bring that to "correct" without affecting too much else adversely.

True, though the "average" compund bow of that style could simply be scaled down to about 85% or so total scale and look pretty darn accurate.

Scaling it is! Though an olympic shooting set (guns AND bows) would be a great product. Match rifles, targets, etc.
