Is there any desire/use for new Genesis 1 items?

It mostly depends on the items released.

Absolutely, and this applies to items for any of the generations. There are utilities that permit pretty good cross-generational use of clothing, etc, so it really comes down to whether the item is of use to me generally, as well as with G1.

Regular, mainstream stuff such as vampire-sex studded bondage outfits with tatooed-nipple nudity options will pass me by, but anything grossly perverted like jeans, tee shirts and cuddly jumpers; or Star Wars / Star Trek / post-apocalypse type adaptable gear might have a chance.

    I LOVE Genesis 1!

I have made some of the best faces starting with Victoria and Michael 5.  I love the versatility.  I also love G2 for their asymmetry.  I noticed that G3 doesn't have nearly as much asymmetry in the face as G2 - yet another reason why I am not interested in G3 at this point in time, unless there's a character I really like.  I've spent way too much money on G1 and G2 to drop it all for G3.  The older generations still have mileage.  I don't go screaming for the newest iPhone, either.

I prefer serious art to all this skinwear, and am rather disappointed that this type of product seems to be dominating the Daz market.  Back in the V4/M4 days there was so much more variety, and the products are becoming more limited for those of us who aren't into risque art.  What a shame.

  • I'd like to thank everyone for their answers! Sorry that I didn't get back sooner!

I was/am working on specific monster type characters for Gen1, as I have seen that there is a lack of them (of the kind I'm working on, not vampires, werewolves, trolls, the are something else). Just have to figure out one issue to have one finished and have two more in the works.

I love doing texures, but don't have many of them ready to go. Also, of course, would have to be accepted/pass Quality Control, but It's a work/thought in progress.

  • I will instantly purchase any genesis based Monsters/Creatures.!!!

Find that I don't use Genesis that much, though I do use V4 and Genesis 2 an awful lot.

As an animator  I use G1-G2 Exclusively.
this is because the G3 rig is not compatible with any of Daz studio native character animation tools and if you send G3 to Iclone to create motion, G3 wont accept his/her own custom BVH files exported from Iclone to Daz studio

Every other figure dating back to Mike& Vicky 2 will Accept their Iclone created motion back in DS  but G3 does not and is therefore useless to us animators needing to have the motion applied in Daz studio.

My primary characters are still all based on Genesis 1. I seem to have less of a problem with program lag with G1 than most other generations. Although it varies by character.

Speaking of which; This morning over at Rendo someone (a new vendor I think) just released a new G1 elf character.

I still primarily use genesis 1.  I prefer it over two and definitely prefer it to 3.

  • Thank you all, again. I'm feeling encouraged! I was pretty depressed that no one would want any.  So, I'm finishing up some textures for BabyLuna and HW Harry, but I'll get back on the modelling and texturing. Like I said, I had researched and hadn't found ANY out there, so, hopefully it will go over well. And I'll keep posting progress here for now.

  • Genesis 1, not so much. I do like G1 monsters though. G2, absolutely.

Even new users or "returning users" like myself will discover Genesis 3 is not backward compatible in too many crucial departments.

G3 may get all the marketing push and have nice fancy face rig, but people will figure out Genesis 1 is not only forward compatible in poses and animations, it is also still the standard for unisex clothing, non-human aliens, creatures, toons, and definitely a better option for import exports.

I'm all G1. My theory is Genesis 1 with its V4/M4 overlap was so good as an all around solution, it was bad for business. The improvements in the follow-on generations are certainly valid technologies, but not necessary relevant for 98% of us, and still not good enough for the other 2% who enjoy the 'perfect render' grail quest. And the G2/G3/Gx chase becoming quite an expensive game for the 'collectors'. SImple meshes vs Masterful Marketting.

Take a quick look at the old V4-elite and original Genesis promos on youtube, as well as any of the better quality gallery stuff with those same characters during that time-period. Still as good as most of the better G2/G3 stuff in the same galleries today - at least to my eye. Elainek's stuff has held-up across the entire time period and is produced with V4=>Genesis3 using both carrara and DS. The folks that can make G3 work, can usually make G1 and V4 work just as well. I would assert that IRAY and Reality/Luxus/Lux and amazing skin/bump/disp/normal technologies are more responsible for the incredible realism we're seeing than any of the recent mesh-base updates. It still doesn't get better than danae's 'london' or 'dublin' (V4) character technologies at the 'R' site down the street.

G2 may sneak into my runtimes, but as an animator, G3 is DOA and you should see the $$ I'm saving. Without being snide, watching the marketing depts at all the sites try to re-vitalize the same-ole-same-ole has gotten entertaining.

I'll still buy G1 stuff from anyone/anywhere, as well as related conversion utils and materials/shaders.

Sales-wise, I would guess G1 users are saturated and honestly don't need more than we have, and 'most' G3 buyers (the only apparent market according to many PAs) are either collectors, bleeding edgers, or new adopters that don't know any better that to pick up the current product offerings. This makes sense to them, and G1 makes sense to a good number of us who started a bit earlier. All good.

tnx and good luck, and good renders to all.

While I'm pretty much a hardcore Genesis 2 stan (I use G3 from time to time after the GenX2 update, but only where absolutely necessary, since not all my morphs transfer 1:1), I still use Genesis to create alien/creature bases, then export with GenX2 to G2. I haven't come across any legit creature/alien morphs for Genesis that really push it that aren't made by RawArt or DarioFish, though. (But I do loves me some RA and DF. They make good stuff)

    But I recall DarioFish teased some new alien/creature shapes for G1 a while back on their DeviantArt page, but they haven't said anything about releasing them yet. D;

Genesis 1 has the most out-of-the-box backward compatibility compared to G2 or G3. G2 and G3 require extra purchases in order to use your  Aiko/Hiro/Michael/Victoria 3¬4 items. That's a bit of a money grubbing move.

Im also more keen on staying with G1 because I plan to buy Marvelous Designer sometime in the future which takes away whatever reason I may ever had to buy G2F/M or G3F/M when it comes to clothing.

Regarding the mosters, etc; If you are into anthropomorphic morphs, the ones by Sparky over on Philosopher's Egg are outstanding. They are nearly all gen4 based, mostly M4, although he later started doing versions for V4 and K4 as well.

They transfer over to Genesis and Genesis 2 via GenX2 really remarkably well -- or at least the ones I tried did.

As long as the quality is good, I don't care what generation it's for.
