Is there any desire/use for new Genesis 1 items?

Is there any desire/use for new Genesis 1 items? Or do people only want new items for Genesis 3 and 2? There is lots of older stuff in the stores, But, I'm asking about NEW things for an older model?

    I recommend this thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/83541/is-genesis-2-still-in-demand/p1

It's about G2, but it basically covers all the answers for your G1 question and has some input from PAs, too.

  • Thanks! I wasn't finding anything!

I would say yes for me, but only in the toon department.  As a whole....G2 and G3 completly missed the mark with the Toons.  3DUniverse has a bunch of toons for Genesis that could be swapped back and forth for the male and females and it worked great!

But Genesis showed a whole new use for the Toon crowd.  So yeah I'd jump on it....heck I took the tutorial I made and altered it so I can take G3F's clothing and hair and have Genesis wear it!

You'll also not get better beasties than you will with Genesis 1.

That's why all the Genesis assets I make are for Genesis 1. They can be used on Genesis 2 too so that's a bonus.

If you're looking at the kind of products that tend to sell well at DAZ... ie: cute girl and racy clothing... there's probably not going to be a huge amount of interest for something made for Genesis 1/V5/M5 only.   For toon and creature stuff, on the other hand, I think the others are correct in saying that there will be more interest in Genesis.... at least, until DAZ stops including the original Genesis with DAZ Studio.  We're only one point off from DS 5 now, and it's not unlikely to consider that DAZ may decide that that will be a good time to make original Genesis a purchase only item.

I don't really buy anything that isn't for gen 3, personally. I just prefer the look of gen 3 figures.

Something to consider: the last Genesis specific product I remember being released was midnight_stories http://www.daz3d.com/universal-demon-wings-for-genesis

He also released versions for G2 and G3.

Look through the shop listings using "Most Popular" to sort and note where they are in relation to each other.

    (or take my word: G3 310th, G2 1418th, G1 4529th as of 20.05.16)

Now sorting by most popular is no way to compare the overall performance of different products because of the range of factors that affect the ratings, most of which we can only guess at, but in this case the only difference is generation.

That said, after M3, Genesis is my most used model so go for it (but be warned: I generally wait till stuff is discounted at least 60% before buying).

Anf Farm's Alien Autopsy is currently the most recent Genesis-only product sold here at DAZ, and it's still sporting it's green "New Item" tag  (early April release, IIRC.)  Over at Rendo, the most recent Genesis-specific item was a set of face morphs from Jefferson AF.

I still buy V4 stuff since it can all be transfered anyway to whatever genesis model I want. As long as it is something unique and hasn't been done a thousand times I will buy it.

    I still buy A3 and H3 stuff.

I pretty much consider buying anything Genesis 2 , its what I prefer to use for my renders

So do I, just not at "brand new" prices.  As far as I'm concerned, if it's on sale for $6 or less and I can make it work on Genesis 1, 2 or 3, it's generally a worthwhile investment.

Yep. Don't know how I forgot Alien Autopsy, it's in my wishlist.

But for giving an indication of what the bulk of users are after the Demon Wings is a more useful example because versions for all three generations of Genesis were released separately at the same time.

PS. Thanks for the heads up on the face morphs. That set I completely missed.

I might be in the minority, but I don't own much of anything from Genesis 2 or 3. I only have interest in the original Genesis. It morphs better in Carrara than Genesis 2 or 3. As a casual at best DS user, Original Genesis is by far the best value I can find. I've got several products in mind and all of them are for Original Genesis 1.

I use Genesis 1 99% of the time, so I'm certainly interested.

Same here I only use G1&G2 because I animate and most G1 content autofits nicely to G2 with no issues.

Genesis 2 and Genesis are my preferred figures.

I want to say yes. Hell, Genesis 1 still holds a major feature on the store's "Technology" page right under Genesis 3. It's Genesis 2 I'm worried about. It seems like everyone is either staying with Gn1 or has finally succumbed to Gn3 as thier new main figure. Meanwhile, I'm still all up in Gn2's grill until we get Dimension3D's update to GenX2.

Genesis 1 is the primary figure I use. I would LOVE more stuff.

Sickleyiels awesome G3 clones let you use the newer stuff, but some item created directly for Genesis would be great

I mainly use Genesis 2, but I like Genesis 1 and find it easy to move stuff around.

I constantly get Genesis stuff that is interesting or useful, while I have almost no use for Genesis 3. (And I'll only start getting Genesis 3 when GenX2 lets me migrate it back to Genesis 2 or 1)

To me, the 'creature' business is the best feature that Genesis has now, because of the whole sexual dimorphism thing.  You make some kind of Armadillo-person morph or something, and you can have the whole armadillo family with mama armadillo, papa armadillo, and little kid armadillos, just by mixing with the usual Genesis DNA.

    G3 no work in Carrara

    so its V4 M4 & G1 & 2 for me.

The thing of it is, for me, the investment I made in add-ons. I bought almost everything Zev0 produced for G2 and I just can't repeat that for G3. So I use G2 (often with Genesis 1 clothing) mostly. I do have some characters (I like Cailin) and clothing for G3F but only enough for occasional use. I don't have anything at all for G3M.

I love and use all three Genesis generations. Nice thing is that I can even use my best V4/M4 skins on G1 and G2.

You can also use the V4 & M4 skins on the G3s with Cayman Studio's geografted UV sets.  (M4 UV set is available here at http://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-michael-4 ; while the V4 version is over at Renderosity.)  Now we just need the G3 upgrades for GenX2.

  • Genesis 1 is ideal for toons and monsters. I'd welcome more of that type of character/skins content for Genesis.

i'm 100% genesis 1, and while impressed w the newer generations, don't ever see buying into them. To address the original poster, I'm still acquiring anything G1, but am pretty well covered now, and probably don't offer much opportunity for vendors to sell to. Like the mil4 generation users, most of us who have baselined w G1 are at the tail of our acquisition mode, vs new users who would likely go with the latest. Note that the economics of G1 items are great, and most any mesh can be worked on any figure with tricks, tools, and time. If novel, or a good value, I'm still a genesis1 product customer, but I don't see much novel going on for any characters these days - pretty maybe, novel/unique, not-so-much. I'm sort of a jaded 'Daz-been' these days, but I still always look... ms

I have some work coming down the pipe and it will be

G, G2, G3, V4 and M4 compatible.  Ya more work for me but

then folks don't need to worry if it can be used by them.

    That is just me.

    Coming Soon " ***** ****** "

sorry, no name until it is official...will be a clothing line...can say that.

Well I see a new release in the store today with poses specifically for a Genesis 1 figure. So evidently some people are still developing for it.

  • nightwolf1982nightwolf1982 Posts: 1,247

It mostly depends on the items released.  I passed on the Universal Demon Wings,  since I haven't been doing demon renders, but Ill probably get Sandy Getaway, maybe do a few 'relaxed' renders.
