i admit I don't care for her. She has hardly any eyebrows and her face looks made up. She looks strange to me. She should be a child but I have never seen a tween who looked like that

Not keen on her eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows. Something seems really off there.

I like the Water Spirit Warrior Outfit - a nice fantasy-ish warrior outfit that is not skimpy.

I really don't like that Sunday Morning outfit - it looks like a tube to me. Plus there's no mention at all of any morphs/movements in the description so no idea if you can swing the skirt, or maybe flip that split open a bit (like she's in a wind) or even any adjustment morphs.

The Missy Outfit looks like a potato sack - but I like the boots and the bangles. It may just be the promos tho - it might look better to me if someone renders it. And that Kids Casual outfit - lots of "widen" morphs, but can you move the skirt at all????

P3D Maria is for Teen Josie 7, not Julie. Confused me too, had to look twice at the requirements.

I have P3D Maria for Genesis 3 Female from Renderosity (product 113249) which is the same exact character,  so I guess vendors can sell the same one here and there as long as there's  more added to it.  I saw that promo and was like, "Wait a minute. I think I have her already...?"  So that's one less available to choose from in that group. And I don't intend to spend money on poses or morphs, have enough sets. So probably sitting out on all this.

    It says "Unavailable": https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/p3d-maria-for-genesis-3-female/113249

So maybe if they start selling a product here they have to take it down anywhere else they have it for sale?

I was looking so forward to this. Unfortunately I think she looks a little cartoonish and too old for a tween - or at least my definition which is 10-12. I'll stick with Zev0's growing up. Although, I could be persuaded to get Camdyn or Britta for the texture.

I think her black lashes look weird with the light red eyebrows. But maybe that ist easy to change myself. I'm not sure, if I will buy her. As there are no discounts for the upcoming male again, maybe I will skip her and look forward to see Ryan. :)
Or are there any renders yet? I'm curious what she looks like, as the renders sometimes look much better than the promos.

  • I.... Might be skipping this pro bundle. Gasp. Shock. Horror.

I only really like the Water Spirit Warrior outfit. Don't care for most of the clothes, either hair, the extra character, or even Julie herself. Even her textures don't ring my bell.

And with no %off her paired boy.... Not sure I want to buy $66 worth of things I don't particularly want in order to just maybe get a future discount.

This will be the first pro bundle I've skipped since G3 came out. I'm a little disappointed.

Have to admit the make up choices on a figure that is supposed to be that young looks rather . . . strange.   I do think she's a step in the right direction, but still looks like someone was hedging their bets.  P3D Brita would be my only reason to go pro on this one though in actuality she seems like a less stylized Thorne figure, which I have plenty of.  Tween Julie is definitely going on the wishlist though.

I'm still sitting on the fence too.

I'm not entirely sure about Julie's texture.
Brita looks adorable (but then I think I have that reaction every time I see one of P3Ds main promo pics for characters.)
One of the hairs looks rather close to the Sapphire Hair I already own.
The other is rather Arya (I assume that's why the water dancer outfit too.)
The outfits are nice and sensible, but they're also kinda... safe? In the sense that I already own several that are basically the same thing.

I think all this would be fine if the deal was the same as Kenji's, but buying 3 additional items from a tiny choice pool in order to get a discount that's a larger amount in the end anyway ... it's a lot of money (esp in AUD.) Which makes me think I should wait for an inevitable sale. Or at least to see if tomorrow brings any interesting follow up deals.

Weighing in on the whole "tween" thing, I tend to look at it via school grades. "Tween" would be middle school, so 6th to 8th grade so 10-13 on average (throw in some 9 and 14 yr olds too). While teenager literally refers refers to ages with "teen" on the end, in practice it refers to people in highschool. (On the other side of the spectrum take 18 and 19yr olds, technically teens, yes, but legally adults). I'm almost tempted to argue tween often refers to post puberty, but pre highschool, certainly that's between two important life events, but that's a really narrow and occasionally non existent band.
  • Note: if it was any new release, I'd be picking up the pro bundle with other stuff, but the choices for the discount new releases are.... Well, I only like the kitchen, so...

Can't win 'em all, I suppose.

  • Here is my Tween Julie test. Someone asked about what they looked like. These are just basic Iray Renders.

As an artist of younger characters, I'm always bothered by the "pouty lip" look. To me, it just seems so unnatural and made up. Don't get me wrong, Julie DOES have some nice stuff. I just would have preferred a bit more everyday outfits and natural looking clothing along with a less "fantasy" look to Julie herself (considering we're talking about a modern tween). Feels like we are worlds away from the days of Julie and Justin for the original Genesis.

  • I always thought of tween as being the 11-13 bracket.  On the cusp of being teenagers and just reaching puberty.

My first thought at seeing Julie was what tween has pouty, adult lips like that?

My first thought went right to the Kylie Jenner lip "challenge"/meme from a while back. Which goes to show that even kid characters aren't completely immune to the slightly male gaze-y feel that most of those bloated lip-doe eyed-button nose sameface-y look that most PA characters have. I'm not sure if that's funny or sad. Or both.

But yeah, I'm gonna pass on this one. Never cared for kid characters in any medium, and she looks more like a porcelian faerie doll than a semi-real person. If you want a belivable tween, you're better off investing in Zev0's Growing Up product.

I'll be fair, though - because I've been looking forward to this set. But, I was hoping for something a little closer to a real tween.

...and what's with that tiny nose-jobby nose? If anything, tweens have facial proportions all over the place with the nose tending to be too big :-)

Has anyone bought her that can check on something? In the promo images there is an odd green in her eyes with a strange cut off spot where the green ends. Is this an issue with the HDRI or is there an odd line in her eyes?

I'm not sure what it is, but in the renders it looks dreadful. Can anyone who has her confirm if her eyes look like that in your renders?

Just got it and it looks to me like a 14 yr old 3D Uni's rayn (Face) and (resembles, but not exactly) the stock genesis 3/Josie character (Body) that has zev0's GU morph applied at 32%...But in comparing the full characters this one is still a stand-alone, so no refunds for me!

Drat, even Camdyn? Nadiya is about the same height as her, but she's nearly flat-chested by comparison. Sigh.

Welll the certainly did up their eyes like they were all about to burst into tears.

LOL, tweens must be a somewhat new cultural group, people in this thread had to look up what they are. I'm not really a fan of these marketing folk creating new artificial cultural niches so they can peddle products to them that make those new cultural groups different and unique. I'm not sure why they just dont create child sets for G3F and G3M and be done with it.

I agree bundling warrior clothing tweens is whoaful. Even those boys in the Cranberrie's Zombie video were forced to use commonly found sticks.

Anyone else feel like waiting till we see if the male tween I assume we will get at the end of the month will be DRM'd (Encrypted DAZ Connect)?  Maybe someone from DAZ could chime in on that?

Edit: Also, could someone who has the outfits in the bundles comment on how well they work with Teen Josie 7 and/or V7? Are poke throughs a big concern? I run into that a lot with Teen Josie 7.

This such an odd character. Her lips are abnormally huge, and she looks very stylized. She is cute, I suppose, but I would never guess any of the characters in the pro set are "tweens." They could all have fit right in with Josie's line, rather than being a separate figure. And I am baffled by how womanly Camdyn's chest is in the pic posted ablove, how old is she supposed to be? These characters would make good faries and elves, but only Camdyn could pass as a believable tween imo. Plus I've never seen a child, tween, nor teen wear clothes like what's in these sets. Again, only Camdyn has a sensibly young teen outfit...but its not part of the set!

Why are jeans so rare on Daz? Jeans come in so many styles there are entire fashion lines dedicated to them. But just a scant few Daz products. Jeans are by far the #1 thing people wear around me, kids and adults alike.

What is it with Daz's fascination with pouty duck face lips??? Even the younger characters can't avoid it! We are passed the point of overkill now. Seriously, its time to revolt against chronic duck face. It is becoming the great epidemic of our time.

Must be a regional thing, because these are all (at least in their clay renders, some of the textures are questionable) perfectly normal "Back to School" type clothes around here (Chicago Suburbs) for middle school - or would be, if the middle school didn't require polos and khakis.  They're certainly closer to "normal" than what we got with Josie 5.  Camdyn's outfit might be something that they'd wear outside of school in summer, but not to school.

Assuming you're talking about Young Teens 5 (regarding Josie 5 - there wasn't a Josie for Genesis), I have to disagree. Mall Girl, Tre, and Teen Swag were all more "everyday" looking clothes than what comes with Julie 7. Of course, Pro Bundles were a much more dynamic thing back then (involving both a Male and Female), but so far, these clothes, while looking more Back-to-School-ish, don't really work as any typical, go-about-your-day clothing. They specifically look like occassional wear.

You're right about which one I meant.  Though I am specifically talking about the girl oriented "Teen 5 Julie" clothes.  So Tre and Teen Swag don't "count" since if they had done a gender split, they would have been with Justin.

However... Mall Girl, much as I love it, couldn't be worn at school (spaghetti straps, hoodie).  It was another after-school outfit.  Pink Ink was okay for school - except for the boots, which no middle schooler I knew would wear (and my daughter was in 6th grade at the time, though not part of the "in" crowd.)

The thing is, much of the contemporary women's clothes in the store aren't really "every day" clothes.  So yes, the clothes with Teen Julie 7 are a bit "special occasion" such as for picture day, but that's not out of place with most clothes in the store.

I'm not saying that we *don't* need a normal jeans and T-shirt (or five) for her, just that what comes with Julie 7 is not something that kids would never wear.  Heck, Kid's casual might almost have gotten my daughter back into skirts voluntarily.  Even with (especially with) the skull on the skirt. :)

You could have thrown some of Justin's clothes on Julie (even the promos do) and made it work. So it certainly counts. And as far as what kids would never wear, I didn't say they wouldn't. I said Julie 7's outfits were occassional, which the store has plenty of already.

Considering what Chicago does to hot dogs, I'm not sure I can count that as normalwink. We don't have any serious dress codes for kids here. Jeans are totally fine, and thus lots of kids wear them. What kids wear outside school isn't too different from what they wear in it. The code has no requirement of any specific type of clothing, only that the midriff and shoulders be covered. Nothing too tight, no undies show, no gang related stuff, that kind of thing.

If our area required polos and khakis there might be riots...from the parents. Actually, there was a lot of pushback on a recent suggestion of adopting a a stricter code. It got ugly!

  • I'm not a fan of her in the promos for the various products that go with her - they all make her look too old, expecially with all the makeup options.  The promos on her actual product page seem better, though still a bit broad-shouldered.  I'll probably get her eventually, but it won't be for a while.

Regarding what a "tween" is, the kids think it's 10-12, in between a "kid" and a "teen".

When my daughter was 8 or so, she began to talk about how she was looking forward to being a tween. I told her I supposesd she'd be glad to not be a toddler anymore.  "I'm not a toddler!" she would object but I'd point out that the age pattern goes baby->toddler->tween->teen. There's nothing between toddler and teen so she must be one still. She would argue that between toddler and tween is "kid".  This was a source of much debate between us but I stuck to my guns, much to her irritation.  She couldn't wait to be 10 so I couldn't call her a toddler anymore!

My secret plan was to wait until her 10th birthday and edit the wikipedia entry for tween to say it starts at age eleven.  That would have been a master stroke but alas, wikipedia won't let you edit the definition of tween for some reason.  crying
