...the Shadow knows! HaHaHaHa...

Thank you Meshitup, the DM Suit for Genesis 2 Males(s) amd Michael 6 http://www.daz3d.com/dm-suit-for-genesis-2-male-s-and-michael-6 looks great. I'm currently reading Dynamite Comics Shadow series and this suit looks spot on. It went straight into my shopping cart.

I don't think The Shadow wore a cowboy hat, lol. Almost looks inspired by http://www.daz3d.com/big-daddy-dracula-by-vampiros-hermosos in that regard. Defintely worth it for those noir subjects.

Well we have to make do with what we can get.  Too bad the shadow wasn't a woman,  we'd have had all the gear several years ago, plus a sexed up version.

    And you'd be wrong. laugh

Do a Google image search for "The Shadow" and you'll find that the hat matches most artists' interpretations. In the pulps, it was called a "slouch hat".

Here's at picture from Wikipedia vs a quick render. I think it's a pretty good match. Now I need a good Widow's Peak hairstyle for Kent Allard (pulp)/Lamont Cranston (radio).

That looks really great!  Going pulp and OTR might be a way to make male characters more interesting to people.   Maybe somebody could come up with a WWI era gas mask and fedora and I could play around with doing some Sandman scenarios.

Okay, I didn't know the shadow garb came with the suit.  Automatic purchase!   At first I just marked it off as a Hitman clone.  The Shadow pics would have made a much more dynamic promo shot.

Now I have to see if I can get that hooked nose look from the old pulps.

YOU should do their publicity. I completely ignored this since it was just a suit with guns, adn well I have some suits I never use and lots of guns...

but the Shadow stuff..cloak, scarf hat....well, THAT makes me much more intersted!

The cape is one of the best modeled I've ever seen, and it works for all my dramatic cloak needs...

In fact, it was why I bought the set. The suit is just a nice bonus. :D

Yeah, I'm glad I looked at the other preview pictures. (One of them might have made a better opening shot.)

And on our next episode... "The Dragons of Shiwan Khan"

Here's one I managed to make before this suit came along. Can't wait to get it and make something better.

Thank you for pointing this out! When I glanced over the promos I didn't even notice the Shadow connection. It went straight into my cart as well.

Fan for a long time now, having read a good portion of the old pulps and listened to dozen of the radio shows...

As someone else already pointed out, the hat has usually been referred to as a slouch hat, probably due to the military connections. Here and there it was a fedora. However, the pulps and radio being non-visual mediums, the hat was usually left to artistic license for the magazine covers.

As to the Gas mask. I think BadKitty Company did one. Don't know whether she's re-released it on Rendo yet or not. Most of her other stuff has been re-released there.

I found the gask mask with the rocketcorps outfit from Renderosity. (Quick partial Iray render)

With a little color tweaking that could easily be the Golden Age Sandman...

Before Jack Kirby got a hold of him...

And turned him into the Tarantula...

I'm inspired now.  Been trying to find a gangster figure that got released a while ago.  I think it was a guy with a pin stripped suit and a tommy gun.  I've done a search for mobster, gangster, and tommy gun, but it's not coming up.   Anybody remember what it was?

That's not it.  I don't have any figures from that era. This was for gen2 or gen3 males.

The only other one I know of is this: http://www.daz3d.com/gangster-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

But now I am curious if that old M3 suit will fit. So I am off to experiment.

Actually, I believe that the Sandman and Sandy The Golden Boy version was created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris, and that Simon and Kirby took over the character later that same year.

Hey, you're right. I stand corrected. I always thought it was Kirby because he hated drawing the old costume.

I know the two similar costumes drove me crazy back when the All Star Squadron was being published.

Ah yes, that's the one I was thinking of.

Now I just have to wait til payday to get Urban Sprawl 3,  and it's time to do some scenes from the best movie serial never made.

  • I was very pleased to see The Shadow outfit. I had to grab it fast! Can't wait to play around with it.

you sure there was never a female version of The Shadow nelsonsmith? someone may have done a version somewhere in something lots of characters have had genderswaps even just one off stories in a flashback story when someone of the other gender had to fill in cover for the hero/heroine even The Phantom the ghost who walks had a female fill in. Of course not counting cosplayers here there a lot of genderswap versions of characters but that's fans and doesn't refer to this as in stories, books, fan fiction, comics

Maybe not perfect, but it seems to fit G2F reasonable well. (The scarf may be a problem.) Quick 3Delight Render

Yeah, you can't fit the Scarf because it will follow the body lines. Here it is parented, but it will need more work in the collar area.

If it's one thing the internet has taught us,  it is that there is a female version of everything  (except maybe the Lone Ranger which I haven't seen as yet).

This thread has aroused my interest in The Shadow once again.  Just purchased the first collected volume of all the original Shadow novels, and found ALL the Shadow radio broadcasts on Amazon for download on Audible for like $4.90 or some ridiculous price like that   for 250+ eps!  Thanks to Ivan's Gangster suit,  and Urban Sprawl I'm fired up to create some Shadow scenarios now.  Hadn't thought of a female Shadow, but I might have to try that down the road.laugh
