It is with a very heavy heart that I am sad to announce that the production of DS Creative will cease after the release of Issue 23 on the 1st of May, Whilst both myself, Camilla and the team would love to continue what has been an extremely fulfilling and challenging project it has become apparent over the last few months that the end was closing in, and during the production of what was to be the May issue I realized that trying to continue would have been a totally futile act so after a lengthy discussion with Camilla we have decided to stop.
    The Reason
DS Creative has always wanted to be about the community, the collective that is the DAZ Studio artists of the world, and we wanted you the artists to be as big part of it as possible, so we have always encouraged you to submit, to play a role in the magazines journey, we just wanted to be facilitators to help bring the distilled knowledge of the DAZ community together into one place and present it in an entertaining monthly magazine, so without that constant flow of contributions that are our lifeblood so to speak, we die. For the last several months we have been working with tutorials literally on a hand to mouth basis, and now I find that we don’t have enough written content to complete another issue after the 23rd.
    The Future
While I have stated that production of DS Creative is now ending, I would like to think that at some point in the future it could be re-started, maybe bimonthly or even trimonthly but it would need a considerable improvement in literary submissions, we just can’t do it without you.
    Thank You’s
Over the 22 issues that we have put out there are so many people that we would like to thank that we would need a very big space, so let’s break it down a bit
    Image Contributors
There are just so, so many of you, some who sent us just one image to those who sent us 50+ We enjoyed looking at them, the sad part was we could never publish them all.
    Tutorial/Tip/Fave Five Contributors
Having written many tutorials myself I understand how hard it is, to get your words down in a clear and concise way so that everything comes across well, So a very big thank you for the writers out there.
    Artist Spotlights
You guys and gals were amazing cause not only did you manage to write about yourself, but you produce a piece of stunning artwork for our cover and you always ensured that we looked amazing.
    Vendors
Well what can I say you gave some of your oh so precious time to write about what who you are and what you do and if that wasn’t enough you made us look awesome by donating a wonderful freebie.
    Prize Donors
Every month we have tried to give you challenging competitions and those competitions need prizes and our prize donors have made sure we always have cool stuff for our winners, thanks everyone.
    Back Issues & Freebies
All the back issues of Ds Creative will remain active at Issuu.com and for as long as the issues are available so will the freebies.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I (Camilla) would also like to add-
The DS Creative is getting its last issue out, in this format. But we may very well pop in other ways. But for now, we need a break, to rethink, regroup and re energies. Its been a hectic 2 years! Ive worked daily for the past 2 years on the magazine and promos, so much so I have done only a tiny amount of the private art I used to do. Dont get me wrong, I loved every minute!! Ive "met" so many new people, artists and vendors alike. I have learned so so much and not just talking about daz! But its not all fluffy clouds. Its been a lot of hard work getting so many people together and I cant tell you guys enough how grateful we are for all of you that came together on this!!
But yea, we need a break, but by all means, do not count out the DS Creative team just yet! :)
As for tuts not finished, like Gregory May´s we will still keep our discussion group on FB open, so we can post the last things we get there and keep people updated for future projects.

And with the news, we have decided to give you guys a few extra days for a deadline. So if you have anything you wish to show off, get that last contest image in or write something as a last statement, you have until Sunday night 23:59 UTC, (midnight to Monday) Thank you!

Aww. I'd only just discovered it, too. The back issues have made great reading and every one of them looked beautiful. I hope it turns out to be just a break in publication and not the end, and that you find a way to come back stronger afterwards. Many thanks for all your effort and hard work.

I also hope that there's a comeback of some kind as I have found the issues to be well written and informative and will miss them

I like the tutorials in your magazine. I hope someone will take up a similar idea.

...ahh a total day of sadness, first the Purple One and now this.

I concur with Silver Dolphin.  It was extremely nice to have really good tutorials available in print format (which are a dying breed today).  Video tutorials do little for me as I have a very poor retention with the medium, and often just give up as I find myself spending more time replaying them over and over than actually solving the issue at hand.

Also it was a great resource to see what others are doing and learning more about the people behind the scenes of the content we use daily.

I feel the community has lost something really good here.  Hope the situation improve and we can see it return.

You can download each issue as a pdf, the "download" link is in the "share" section on the page. You might need an issuu.com account for that.

This is sad news indeed and I will surely miss the DSCreative, I learned a lot from the tutorials and Tips, found interesting products among the top five I never knew before, and enjoyed reading about the vendors and the artists. But I can understand your decision and I would like to express my thanks to you, Camilla and the rest of the team for all the time and energy you put into the DS Creative! Best wishes to you, and enjoy the free time!

I really hope that you come back, I'd be happy with bi-monthly or quarterly - I know I had no sooner read the competition details and the deadline was looming, so bi-monthly or quarterly would give me more time to enter. Really enjoyed the magazines and have them all downloaded for reference.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'm a new user and only recently discovered your magazine. It's very well written and produced!

Will all the past issues still be available online?

I'm sad to read this, I've enjoyed the magazine for a couple of years now. Thank you for all the hard work put into the project by everyone involved. I can understand that it's an impossible task without more support (and now feel guilty for being a taker not a giver here)

I'd like to add my "Thanks" for all the time and energy all of you put into this labor of love.  A lot of great material, and as a fledging 3d student, I learned a lot...   While I (selfishly) would love to see a resurrection of this in the future, I also hope that you enjoy you "time off" and can pursue some of your OWN dreams....   - Ray

I was the editor, publisher and main writer (had to be because you can't count on submissions :() of 3 different digital magazines (running at the same time).  One of them, Dog Gone Art, was award winning in its field.  I published 2 of them for over 7 years.  In fact one of them was the first digital magazine in its field back when no one even knew what a digital magazine was and there was no such thing as an iPad.:)   I finally found it all too much as well, doing most of the work alone, so shut the last one down about a year or so ago. So I totally understand the difficulties and commitment involved.  I'm currently working on a 2nd book but perhaps if you decide to revive DS Creative contact me and maybe I can commit some serious time to helping out.   Anne Marie Rasmussen

I, too, am sad to read this.  I really enjoyed the magazine.  Having just written my first ever tutorial, I can understand, though, why there might not have been very many submitted.  Those things are hard to do!  I have to say that I've learned a lot by the ones that were published in DS Creative!  I hope that it continues in some form in the future after you regroup and see what you wish to do from here forward.

Sad week so far.  Thanks all for their contributions, articles, images and all the rest.  Hopefully this will have a second incarnation at some point.  HUGS

Very sad news. But I do understand and know how much work it is for being part of a historical publication for years.

I appreciate what you all did and will keep preciously all my past DS Creative issues.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this I really loved this magazine!  Learned a lot!  Hopefully issu will keep the ones that are already published up for a while.  Really going to miss this I looked forward to it every month. Very sad news indeed .. I always enjoyed reading  the magazine when it was released. I'm sorry to see it go.  Thank you Drakenborg for all the effort you guys put into it, to bring it to us.

i've read and benefited from all of your great issues, and will voraciously read any more you produce. Thanks so much for the wonderful gift of your time and wisdom! ms
  • I'll miss this magazine a lot. It consistently had exceptionally high-quality content and easy-to-follow tutorials. Neither of those is easy to generate in high volumes on a regular basis, so I suppose gravity always wins (as Radiohead sang once). The magazine put a human face on so many vendors, and it was such a neat treat to see artwork created by so many of us within the pages of a PDF.

Thank you tremendously for creating such a resource, even if it didn't last too long. You did us all a great service and I am grateful!!!

  • Having been a part of one of this publications issues I am saddened to see it go. I loved the experiance and I love the community. I wish all the best of luck in  all you do and I hope you bring this back in some format. It is an invaluable asset !

I am definitely sad about this news.  I really have enjoyed all of the issues.  I am a huge procrastintor, so I am sorry about that especialy after reading about how the lack of articles to feed the magazine.  Months ago I started on a tutorial and succeeded at getting the outline and basic steps done.  But when I tried to get it finished, I kept getting distracted by other things and never finished.  So I apologize for contributing to the lack of articles.  I look forward to any future reincarnations of DS Creative.

Thank you for all of the wonderful work and product that you have put out over the last two years.  Your efforts have been appreciated.

As so many have also said, I've only recently discovered DS Creative. Worse, I only figured out how to download the magazines last night. Reading them online was a problem, so I hadn't taken advantage of the information. Now, sadly, I'll have plenty of time to catch up.

I think the idea of a bi-monthly or quarterly issue is really good, if DS Creative ever gets revived. It would allow those working on the magazine more free time for their own projects in between issues, give the readers more time to participate in contests, and give anyone wanting to contribute more time to get their tips, tutorials, and what-nots ready for publication.

And if DS Creative is revived, it would be helpful to get the word out about the magazine through other channels than just the forums. I stumbled across this thread a few months ago and opened it out of curiosity. Perhaps DAZ could include a bit of info in one of the many newsletters it sends out when each issue is released. I know I'd have checked it out sooner if I'd seen something about it in one or more of the daily newsletters.

Anyway, well done to those who put this useful magazine together. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and you will be equally missed. Thank you.

I enjoyed the magazine and will miss it. I contributed a few renders when I thought I had on that was good enough for public viewing. I found the magazine informative and interesting.

Of course, a return of the magazine in some form or structure in the future would me welcomed.

I have some understanding of the effort it takes to put out a quality product each month and I want to thank you for the magazine and I want you to know I appreciate your effort. I wish you the best in whatever you do.

We will be going over alternatives, bimonthly every 3rd month etc. But no matter how often or little we release its still a matter of writers and without funding its hard have such on a regular basis. But we are checking up on possibilities and may have some things up our sleeves but for now we need a short break and rest. But keep an eye out and thank you all that contributed and supported us over these 2 years! :)

Welcome to DS Creative Issue 23 the only magazine for DAZ Studio users

Sad news and I'm sorry to see the mag go. It seems these can be hard to keep going, I remember back in the day Caligari (Truespace) tried to make a mag for the community (Truespace Magazine), we were all so hyped about it. I think it made it to issue 3 or 4 or something, it was a physical paper magazine though. I keep my copies in magazine/comic bags, put up and stored for safe keeping. Maybe you're right that a issue ever few months might get on better. Hopefully in the near future we will see you guys again. I enjoyed reading the articles and looking at the pics. You guys will be missed until we see you again.

I was really amazed to see what an excellent magazine the DS Creative team issued every month. Again thank you very much for all your good work. I'm very sad about the end, but I hope that there will be a revival. Maybe as a quarterly?
