Massive house clearance continues... the main bedroom got blitzed briefly this afternoon so that we had space to do the spare bedroom, and now that one is being attacked at a fair old rate of knots.... piles of boxes everywhere for stuff to go on ebay and the like, and we've still got to move it all back in yet!

Moving from an 8 room ( 3 bed, 2 bathroom, utility room, 2 living rooms and kitchen) house to a small 2 bed cottage helped us with a blitz a few years back.

...same for myself in my last move. Have some items in storage for when I get my own place again, but very pared down from what I had.

...and that was after a major purge a couple years ago.

This is our little cottage, 2 beds upstairs, downstairs is all one room (open plan)  kitchen and bathroom built on the back as as single storey extension.

Just think, when it was built a family with children would have lived there, without the extension, and the downstairs would have been 2 rooms, cooking in one over the range type fire.

That's a cute place! laugh And whileI think cooking downstairs over a fire would be romantic, I'll take the version you have... need that bathroom... indecision

    Happy Monday. indecision Complaints:

    - Thunderstorms and rain for the next 3 days
    - Dark, ominous and gloomy outside
    - Neck sore from sleeping funny
    - Doc visit Thursday to get blood drained for lab work
    - Gotta make a bank run at lunch, in the rain
    - Feel aimlessly crabbity
    - Feel singularly uncreative right now
    - Need a bucketload of money
    - Jealous of online friend who quit his day job to be a writer/speaker as he now makes enough to live on
    - Did I mention I wsa REALLY envious of him too?

    Non-complaints:

    - All my Walmart goodies have shipped so soon soup, undies, and diabetes supplies arrive
    - Leftover Ranch dry rub chicken wings for lunch
    - Getting ready to upload my first new track in weeks
    - Much accomplished over the weekend, despite my laziness
    - Have brilliant idea for an industrial espionage/sex thriller set in Silicon Valley, probably sell better than a fantasy novel
    - Got another great idea or an occult horror series based in an alternate world New Orleans (means I should go visit)
    - Alive, mostly whole, employed, dry, and well fed.. I should be thankful for all that. smiley

Tonight is set aside as a writing night, even if all I do is create Scrivener project files for the two books I want to start in on, I'll call it a win.  I installed new sound libraries this weekend and will need to go through and audition them, this usually results in inspiration and a new composition or two.  Hopefully thngs are slowly staring to get back on track, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!!

I need a place about half the size of Chohole's, next to a farmers market, in the countrside somewhere.. with high speed Internet, of course!  Within walking distance of a brewpub would be an extra bonus.. lol! surprise

I wonder if they'll let me put an espresso maker on my desk... frown

    Need to dos:

    - Write a little every day
    - Create at least one new composition a month, two if possible
    - Get rid of distractions at home to focus on writing and music
    - Save up money and find an artist to work with on book cover art, I'll do art for my music
    - Start worming my way into writing circles devil
    - Get and stay healthy enough to write and compose!!!! surprise

Seems like a reasonable list for the next year or so.  You don't change careers overnight, my friend online took 5 years before he could quit his job for full-time writing, and he didn't have medical issues to deal with.  Need to change one step at a time... yes

...only 11:30 AM and already 87º in "the hood". Warmest part of the day is still about five hours away.

Never understood why they take the "official" temperature at the airport when most airports are far from where the concentration of people in a city actually live and work. PDX is on the far northeast side at teh end of the Columbia Gorge which has a localised effect on the area compared to the rest of the city, Pretty much all that is out there besides aeroplanes are warehouses, coyotes, and raccoons.

    ...very nice.

Alas, my artistic muse has seemed to abandon me.  Haven't done much in the last couple weeks.

Part of it is a lack of good readable documentation for Iray which has become a real source of frustration as feel I am spending more time messing with adjustments than actually creating works.  Video tutorials just don't cut it for me. I'd go back to 3DL, however flagging SSS surfaces when using the AoA Advanced Lights has been broken since the 4.7 update and no fix seems to be in the works.  Don't like using UE and UberLights because of the long render times (longer than even Iray in CPU mode) and the fact they makes my system run at higher temps.

Feh, sorry to hear your Muse is on vacation.  Hopefully not for too long, though!!!!

Written documentation sems to be  dying thing, even if just PDFs.  Nobody wants to pay a tech writer and nobody wants to stick an engineer helping the tech writer do their job.  It's pathetic... frown

Supposedly 69F here.  They take the "official" temp at Camp Maybry, which is an airport of sorts but within spiting distance of downtown Austin, so it's more meningful than if it had been Bergstrom (down South a ways).

The whole "airport" thing is a mystery to me...

    8:45pm and getting kinda chilly.

Airports need to record accurate weather information as part of their operations. Not just temperature, but dew point, cloud ceiling & cover, visibility, humidity, pressure, wind speed & direction, precipitation etc. Sure it's only valid for the airport, but  with local knowlege it's usually possible to predict conditions in the surrounding area with a fair degree of accuracy. And it's there anyway, on the hour, every hour, so may as well use it. City is perfectly well entitled to invest in their own weather station, but few bother. Airport METARs and TAFs (actuals & 24 hour forecasts) are fed to national weather centres (the UK one is in Exeter), where they are used as the basis of area, national and global weather forecasts.

I used to think that ours was at the small airport in town, but I found out it's at the Miles Standish Industrial Park at the other end of Taunton.  And it's an official National Weather station.  The dopler radar for our whole area is in Taunton.  There's one in the Greater Providence are in Rhode Island, and one up in New Hampshire or Maine, not sure which.  You can see them when they show the live dopler radar map.  Still, I don't think it's the same temperature there that it is here.  After all, it's in an industrial park.  A lot of concrete buildings and blacktop.  Where I live there is a lot of green.  Taunton is rather big, area-wise, too.  It takes me 15 minutes to get to that area.  It takes me 25 minutes to get to my old city, and I go through two other towns to get there...actually, I think it's three.  Berkely, Assonet and Freetown.  Anyway, it's much warmer in the summer with all that concrete and asphalt than it is here in the winter.  So I always know that when they say it's freezing, it's actually colder here.  We get more snow here than on that side of town, too.

    Dana

I can't drive because my right eye is shot from a hiking accident (I fell down a mountainside in the redwoods on the California coast, what a mess) and my depth perception past about 10-12 fet is gone.. everything looks like a painting. frown Laser surgery isn't likely to help much, according to my doc at the time, and could make it worse (!!), not to mention insurance doesn't cover it and we're looking at about $50,000.  Forget it!  $50K is a LOT of cab rides.

None of this affects my ability to program, compose music, or even dabble in computer art.  It DOES dramatically restrict where I can live and work, but not so much that it's a huge impediment.. I just need to have good public transit or reliable/afordable cab service. smiley  Between the Web, delivery services, and the taxi I can actually live pretty darn well despite the vision (and now foot) thing.

So, for the past 9 yars I've walked everwhere and taken the bus, and being "trapped" not able to just jump up, grab a bus, and go shop/party/hike/get entertainment is driving me frigginnutz!!! angryangry And Austin has some beautiful parks, creeks, and a river or two right on the bus lines!!! ARGHHHHHH HATEFUL CAST HATE HATE!! angryangry

While I can get the knee scooter on the bus, the tires are slick, hard plastic and the thing has no shocks - unless the road/trail/sidewalk is close to perfectly smooth, it's a real hellride.  But in the grocery store or drug store, look out! I'm hell on wheels, I move way faster than anyone on foot!! devil

    Anyway, TMI, sorry...blush
