Any way to blend skins together?

I'm looking to create a animation where the character transforms. Is there any way to blend two skin textures together in real time like create a slider. For example you could have genesis male and genesis female character skin and adjust how visible each texture was. 75% male with 25% female or 50/50 mix. Or just anyway to change a texture that is less obvious than an instant swap?

Perhaps with scripting; I'm not aware of a product that does that, but likely might be one somewhere. :)

Blender can iirc, but that would require knowledge of Blender. And other 3D modellers too.

Alternatively, you might apply the skins to seperate characters then try experimenting with the Opacity cutout in the surfaces tab.

You can have two skins applied on a single mesh using one or two Geometry Shells (*), but I could not find a way to blend them yet (**). There is some kind of Shader editor, but I never got to play around with it - maybe the skin can be blended using this. Or using a script, like nicstt said.

    * Select figure, go Create->New Geometry Shell. Select Geometry Shell, go to Surfaces-Tab, select Shell, apply DAZ Uber Shader. Select Base figure while still in Surfaces-Tab, right-click & "Copy selected surfaces". Select Geometry Shell, right-click & "Paste to selected surfaces".

** I tried to use the "Cutout Opacity" slider on the Geometry Shell Surface, which kind of works, but when I go below 0.25 setting, things get wonky in terms of gloss - it suddenly gets very reflective for unknown reasons. Using DAZ 4.8, if that makes a difference.

Or render twice, once with male skin and once with female, and blend them in your video editor. If you are using Iray you could include a material ID pass (enable Canvasses in the Advanced tab and add as many canvasses as required) to make masking easier.

I had a play with something similar a little while back using Geo-Shell and Cross-Figure (to change body shape from male to female)

Didn't have the problem mork describes but couldn't find a way to change eye texture so had to stick with one eye colour for both.

    PS This was G3M in D|S 4.7 using 3DL

  • Thanks for the help some interesting ideas here on how I could do it. I'll give them a go and see how I get on.  The two character method might work well here. If I ensure they are exactly the same shape and pose and simply place them inside eachother i could then turn up and down the opacity on them and it might work. Forming a kind of blend as one becomes invisible.  Many thanks.

Layered Image Editor lets you add a layer, put a texture in it, and adjust opacity from 1-100%. Maybe add the final skin as a new later and the animation timeline go frame by frame and adjust one down, the other up until you are done a full transition?
