Olympia 7 has disappeared...?

jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

This is driving me nuts....suddenly, i cannot load Olympia 7 as I get an error saying "file does not exist".

I used her two days ago!!!!

I uninstalled her via DIM, and then reinstalled her via DIM to see if that would fix it, and it doesn't. She is the ONLY 'character' in Genesis 3 Female/Characters that is doing this - all the other ones there load fine. But suddenly, for no reason I can think of, I get an error message when trying to load her. See screenshot.

She is definitely installed, and installed correctly. Why can't her file be found, when it is right there, and I used her two days ago???

I"m using DS 4.9.1.30 (latest release)

Very strange -- you're loading her from Content Library > Daz Studio Formats?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

Yeah, I'm double clicking on the icon there, under "Characters", the same way I have always done, and the same I do with the other 49 characters there. And she's the ONLY one returning the error - even after I uninstalled her via DIM (from where she was installed to her default location, I didn't move any folders or anything), and then reinstalled her via DIM to her default location.

And as I said, I loaded her up two days ago to play with her, and had no issues then. I can't understand it.

Wait. I just tried to load the default "Genesis 3 Female" and got the same error message. That "genesis 3 female.duf" could not be found. WTH?

If you right-click and choose "Browse to file location" does it open in the right place?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

    Yep, it sure does.

Is the Genesis 3 Starter Essentials installed?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

Right, I've solved it. Odd, to say the least, but I'm suspecting that may be because I don't understand this friggin' Connect thing.

A couple of weeks ago, I wanted to change the location where Connect files installed to. They go to my C drive, which I DON'T want to happen. My C drive is a SSD and it's not huge and I reserve solely for programs. My DS content is all installed via DIM to my external F drive. So I wanted to change Connect files installtion to the F drive. I was getting a message and didn't understand what it meant so I posted here:

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/74045/changing-where-connect-installs-to

In all honesty, I don't quite understand what rbtwhiz is saying there. So I just figured that this: "If you do not intend to move the contents of the previous path, but want that content to remain working whilst also changing where new Daz Connect Data gets installed, you should answer "Yes."" meant I should choose 'yes' and all would be well.

And I suspect THAT is what happened to make Genesis 3 Female default and Olympia 7 suddenly tell me they didn't exist....even tho they did.

So I went to Smart Content, uninstalled Genesis 3 Starter Essentials and Olympia 7, and then reinstalled them both via the Smart Content tab.

    And now they work. :sigh:

    It's all beyond me LOL.

This is what I am thinking of doing and I think I may need @Fixmypcmike to tell me if this is doable.

If I wipe ALL my content from my F drive, delete it......and then install the stuff I want via Connect/Smart Content tab to that F drive.

This is doable? Just install it all again via Connect? and have it go to my F drive, not my C drive/

Can you post what your Content Directory Manager is showing now, for Connect/Daz Studio Formats/Poser Formats?

The thing about the Connect install location is that you can only have one at a time, so if you change it you need to either move the old connect files to the new location, or else add the old location as a DS-format content folder so that DS can still find it.

Is this what you wanted to see?

F is my external drive that holds all the content

C is my internal SSD that the actual DAZStudio program is installed to

That looks correct, I don't understand why you were having trouble loading the DIM-installed versions.  Had you installed them with Connect also?

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

I don't either. And nope, I hadn't installed Olympia 7 or Genesis 3 Starter with Connect, only with DIM. It wasn't till I DID install them via Connect that they started working again.

So do you think I can wipe everything from my F drive, and then go about reinstalling everything via Connect onto my F drive instead?

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,689

That should be fine, if you have download caps you might want to install with Connect before wiping the DIM installs.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

500gb a month which we never even come close to. LOL. I'd just be doing the Gen3 stuff, some Props I want, shaders and lights - y'know, the essentials. :D

That installation in the screenshot should work, yes?

Yes, you can remove the entry for the C: drive location if you're removing that also.

Oh, I would recommend resetting the database, then shutting down DS for 15 seconds and restarting it, to make sure any bad data is gone.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

how do i reset the database? (can't remember!)

I deleted everything off my F drive, and my Smart Content  in "Installed" is showing all the generic grey icons, like they are still there. Resetting hte database would fix that?

It's odd, sometimes when you dbl click on something for it to install (Connect), it doesn't seem to want to start. I'm logged in, but even tho I've right clicked and chose "install" or even dbl clicked to "install", Genesis 3 Starter is just not moving at all.

Content DB Maintenance > Reset Content DB

    thanks!

:D Did that, and now nothing is installing :(

Log off, reset the database, then close DS for 15 seconds and restart.

Same place you reset the metadata. Content libray tab> arrow and lines menu (next to the search eyegalss)>content DB maintanence> last checkbox selection reset db

Log off out of DAZStudio? And reset AFTER logging out of DS?

Log out of Connect, then reset.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

    GRRRRRRRRR!

It doesn't seem to be working.

I logged out of Connect (I hit the "work offline" button up top), then I reset the database, then closed DS.

Walked away to have a cigarette (longer than 15 seconds), opened DS, logged in as normal when that pop up came up, then went to Smart Content tab and dbl clicked the "Genesis 3 Starter" greyed out icon.

Nothing. It's not downloading (going from greyed out to colour). When I right click it, the "install" option is greyed out, like it IS downloading. But nothing is happening.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

    Wait....there's movement.

    It's downloading now.

    That is WEIRD.

    Major delay!

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

@fixmypcmike - THANK YOU for all your help :D It's all sorted now and downloading merrily away.

One final quick question: if I want a product that I've installed manually as it's a NON daz product, for it to show in the Smart Content tab, do I need to Categorize it, or do metadata for it? Or both?
