Do scene subsets containing products require installation of said product?

I'll be hopefully working on some PBR textures for older poser format products, but I'd like to include duf loaders for the products themselves so the user doesn't have to navigate to multiple locations. Are scene subsets the best method for this? I don't want to illegally redistribute the product itself, just include daz format "shortcuts" to load them.

A .duf scene doesn't include the product themselves, it contains references only. For poser-format items IIRC it contains a reference to the "auto adapted" version of the product (the one which is saved in the data folder when you save the scene) and also a link to the original Poser item so that it can rebuild the data files if you don't have them. So it should work for what you want to do, as long as your user didn't move the poser files.

Thanks, and thanks for the reminder. Users moving their files around didn't dawn on me.

  • That's why we upload scenes in the gallery so people can take advantage of the render setting and materials without handing it out for free !
