It's part of Studio, was the default renderer before Iray. In the render settings pane you can select 3delight from the drop down at the top of the pane.

  • How do you render in 3delight? I am a total noob in 3delight.

    Thanks

  • Yes!!! Got it to work. Thank you TesseractSpace.

One more thing, how do I turn down the glossiness?

    Is 3delight free?

3Delight is part of Studio. You would change the options from NVIDIA Iray to 3Delight on the Render tab.

Smay's products frequently use what are called "procedural" shaders -- that is, they rely on particular properties/aspects of a given render engine, such as 3Delight. Additionally, this is a very slightly older product, and came out more than a year before Daz incorporated Iray into Studio.

Since the issue isn't just the glossiness but that you're seeing no change no matter what you do, that's what's going on here. The materials were designed for 3Delight and not Iray. The materials are trying to do something that Iray simply isn't designed to do. You'll need to use 3Delight to see any changes at all.

  • Thank you guys for the help. Greatly appreciated. Everything seems to be working.

I only have one more request, how do I get my TIFF fiesl to be 300 DPI. All the renders are in 72 DPI.

    Thank you.

    Is 3delight free?

3Delight is included in Studio...it is the 'other' renderer now; it used to be the default.  And yes a single user standalone, full version is available for free..but it's much easier to go to Render Settings and select the renderer there.  (Not that the stand alone is difficult to use, unless you are running on a Mac as the exporter for a Mac doesn't quite export in a manner that makes it easy.)

  • Is 3delight free?

3Dlight is one of two main render engines included as part of Daz Studio, the other is IRay.  If  you look under the Render Settings tab, you'll see Engine at the top.  You can change between the two (and OpenGL as well) using the dropdown box.  Both render engines have their pro's and con's, but material settings for one don't always work on the other.  From a hardware prespective, 3DLight is a CPU based engine, and IRay is an NVidea GPU engine.

  • I recently purchased the smay superhero suit. I have everything working except the materials. Everytime I render the the suit always renders glossy. I load the diffrent materials but I still get the same glossy suit.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Mack

A few more Iray suggestions, building on TesseractSpace's Suggestisons:

    • Use the Iray Uber Base Shader
    • Set the SubD Displacement Level at 2 (thanks, TesseractSpace)
    • Increase the Displacement Strength to 0.5-1.0 to let the seams show more.
    • The Bump map probably didn't convert over, which costs us the cool hexagon pattern.  So:  Base Bump file to SHS_M6_body_b1.jpg (or whichever you like)

Nice. Yeah I was kinda taking shots in the dark since I don't have the suit.

It comes with DAZ Studio. You can switch between iRay and 3DL on the render tab.

3Delight is the other rendering engine in Studio.  I would try converting to Iray, first though.  The shader should be in your Shader presets>Iray>Iray Uber, I believe it is (have a render going, so can't check).

DPI is an arbitrary number added to the image file and only used at printing, the image's actual pixel resolution is what matters.  Do the math, multiple size in inches by the DPI you want to get the resolution needed.

    Is 3delight free?

3Delight is the native and default software based renderer provided with DAZ Studio for the last several generations.

No they aren't  -the renders don't have a PPI (pixels per inch) setting, so they are assigned one when you open them in an editor or viewer - usually 72 or 96, but you may be able to tell your software to assign 300 if you need that to hand the image off for printing and the printer won't make the change for you.

How does this product compare to Supersuit for Genesis and Ultra Body Suit for G2F?
  • Hey guys, thaks for all the help.

Regarding a higher resolution. How do I actually input (where) the data for a better resolution?

  • TesseractSpaceTesseractSpace Posts: 1,583

In the render settings pane. The general section has areas to enter height and width as well as preset dimensions for different aspect ratios. Pixel size is where you'll set how many pixels you want in height or width. For example to get an 8 by 10 image at 300dpi, I set the aspect ratio to 8 width by 10 height. Then since it's the easier calculation, multiplied the height of 10 by 300 to get 3000 and put that in the height in Pixel Size. (The aspect ratio setting caused the width to automatically adjust.)

  • Hey Tesseract- every time I input a number into the Pixel Size box it just goes back to 1130W x 872H.

3Delight comes with DazStudio, packaged in.  It was there first, in fact, years before Iray even showed up.

Check the "dimension preset", it's probably set to "Active viewport" so the size is automatically set to your viewport's size. Select another preset to change the dimensions.

  • Thanks Leana.

Will, unfavorably if you are looking for morphs and or versatility or customizable materials.  Its pretty much "what you see is what you get".

Not to put the suit down, its pretty nifty and renders great but its kind of narrow when compared to 3D Wizard's products and the Supersuit.

    Thanks, that's what I expected. ;)

I should get back to making a script to fix Mac Ribs since Daz clearly is never going to bother to do it....especially as I'm now thinking about trying out Renderman.

I've not tried the male suit yet, but with the female, suit, i did find it's pretty easy to make your own stuff for it if you're ok with playing with image maps.   (It's pretty much how I learned about diffuse maps, normal maps, etc).
