Thanks, everybody, for the kind compliments on the hair salon.  Obviously, it would thrill me if everyone bought it now, but I do understand the realities of life :). The salon grew out of sheer coincidence, it was never an intentional creation.  I needed a barber's chair for another thing I'm working on, so I made one.  Then it looked stupid without the styling station.  Then, I needed to add more, then more, etc.  Before I knew it, that's what I ended up with.

My current project is just as detailed as the hair salon, but hopefully a lot more versatile... That's all I will say for now :). Hopefully, some will find that the salon comes with so many props and settings that they will see another use for it.  Magazines, plants, a beautiful empty room, lots of seating options, etc.  Even a cool (I hope) exterior.  Not to mention the lighting and environment settings that I use in my interior promos.

Anyway, it feels really good to me to see so many positive comments about the salon.  I was really nervous about it, being my first crack at an environment, and I wasn't sure how well it would be received by those who are used to me making clothing or morphs or uv sets.

I absolutely love it! I have been wavering on buying it all day as it look so spectaularly made but I never really get the chance to do renders for fun. I might just snag it during the catch up sale cause its just so bloody well made. I know i will for SURE be being the set you have coming I love it to pieces already :D

I've bought it, and playing around with it, and like it... and now I wonder... will you sell an add-on with one of these chairs that has a water basin, where you can get your hair washed? smiley

BeeMKay, there is a washing station located between each of the styling stations on the west wall... Two in total, and the faucet and spigots turn, too

Silver, I'm so excited about the new one, I just want to show it to everyone here and now, but it's not quite finished, so I can't do that.  I probably shouldn't have shown it off the way I did, either, lol, but I'm like a little kid... No patience (you will see, soon)

I guess Daz skipped 29 February ... now that is madness wink

Well, thus far, too much for me to spend after what I spent on the most recent sales, but it's my birthday today so with any luck I'll get some way to buy something. :)

It's my tenth birthday and I'm turning forty. 10-40 in tax season. there's a special kind of madness there. :)

    Happy Birthday!

Did you know..., you share a birthday with the composer Gioachino Rossini (the operas 'The Barber of Seville', and 'William Tell', among many others; remember the 'Lone Ranger' theme?  He wrote it!)

Yes, I know, but I was thinking of those who are "operable" from behind (those are the default ones in my part of the world).

For the ones in the shop, the hairdresser needs to stand front-sideways of the customer, which might lead to... "squeezy" situations, if you employ Bethany 7. wink

Oh, I see.  These are the ones I'm used to seeing.  Can you link me to a picture of what you are talking about?  I don't know if I've ever seen one like that

That's not the conventional definition of 'stack' but hey, it's Daz, maybe you're right.

Did a quick test, it is indeed 55% and my loathing for creative 'sales math' makes me that less likely to buy. mutter

It's not "creative", it's how percentage adjustments should combine.

The sales pages aren't just arithmetic, they are language.

It says: "Buy the Daily Mind Blower & get an EXTRA 10% OFF March Madness releases & categories".

It follows that up with an emphatic: "DISCOUNT ONLY APPLIES TO MARCH MADNESS SALE ITEMS..."

It specifically says the extra discount applies to the items. But it doesn't. The extra discount applies to the discount already on the items. The issue isn't with the maths, it's with the words. There's absolutely nothing wrong with offering an extra discount to a discounted price. It's more money off for us and thus a straight up good thing. So why not celebrate it by describing it accurately?

It's superb and I was delighted to buy it (along with your "Genesis 2 Male and Female Base UVs for Genesis" at a fine discount (plus some other scrummy stuff)). You've upped the game!

Slosh - that salon is totally amazeballs. I was really impressed, esp with all the stuff that moves. Awesome work!

    @Slosh

I have to say, I love the new name!  It took me a couple of times seeing your signature to realize there had been a change.  I hadn't even noticed earlier in the day when I was admiring the new set that the name had changed!  I must have been mesmerized by the salon.  blush  I do hope you make more environment sets if this is an example of what has been rattling around in your brain of late!

I must say, all the fears I had about switching gears to do some environments are now behind me.  The feedback in this thread has made me feel very good, and I thank you all for being so supportive.  It's not all about the money with most of us PA's, whether you believe it or not.  We really do enjoy it when the public is happy, and a product that makes me a good bit of money but generally gets a "meh" response from you, the community, is not a success in my book.  I really enjoy doing the environments, and I love making all the little details and props, so I think it's safe to say I will continue doing it that way.  Not to say I will never release an environment that is more simple, but I will definitely try to maintain a certain consistent style and way of doing things.  Thanks for the recent comments, IgnisSerpentus, KnittingMommy, and Peter, and anyone I missed specifically.

I'd been wanting to do the name change for awhile now... it's my deviantArt name as well as Twitter, and I just like the way it sounds, lol.  I thought, seeing as I switched gears and started doing environments, it would be a good time to implement the change.

It's not the ice cream parlour in your logo, is it?

It's a really good looking Salon. If I were doing a scene with a salon, yours would be the salon I would buy.  Unfortunately I am a poor, so the only way I can encourage you is by posting to say that were I customering, I would definitely be buying your envrionments.

Is the fact that Werks == Works in German not a coincidence regarding the new name?

I'm surprised DA's island wasn't the daily bite today. It looks fantastic and it even has 3DL promo renders as well as Iray :o

There are a few items I want in the related section today but 58% on bundles is considerably less than last week, so I think I'll wait awhile.

Some of the items listed under various artists for March madness list items that

    are not discounting

There was a lighting package from Anvil that was refusing to discount.

    Greetings,

There was a lighting package from Anvil that was refusing to discount.

DA's Real World Lighting?  That's a 'New' item, and new items (that aren't part of the immediate sale) are almost always excluded from the discounts.  It's why I like this sale; because I get extra discounts on *new* items.

I think I've seen something similar being used in Japan, but I'm not sure where outside of some European countries these chairs are used. I did a quick googlesearch; these are called "Friseurwaschsessel" in German language, they come in a gazillion variations, but the basic principle is that the hairdresser is standing behind the customer while they are washing the hair. They often have two or even three of these chairs standing next to each other, so that there's a designated "washing area".

(And congrats on the new shopname! yes)

Nothing really tempting as I feel at this moment - still annoyed with Daz; no annoyance and I've bought two-to-five items.

Agreed, it looks great.  Keep up the good work with the details too, the details are what really sell it.  Too many I have passed on because they are too bare.  Lolking forward to the next one!

So far the savings hasn't been working my credit card loose...  I suppose that's a good thing in a way, but I was hoping for some madness to make me poorer!

  • I think the Salon is beautiful, and if I ever need one, I shall pick it up. But I mostly do historicals, SF and (lately) superheroes. Right now I just don't need this item. Great job!

In fact, I've yet to see one sale item that was even tempting. There are a few very beautiful items out there, but nothing I need. So far, this is the least tempting March Madness I've ever seen. At least for me.

well nothing yet has shown up in the MM sales for me to go mad over.,    This MM sale so far actually looks pretty much like all the rest of the sales promos daz has. So I don't see how this is a March madness sale when it looks like all the other sales and promotions daz offers. I think last months sales actually had better discounts. I just don't see having to buy 2 products to get a discount deal as not much incentive for me to impulse buy.
l remember the old days when march madness was a 50 % - 70% discounts per item.. and you never needed to purchase more than one product to get the MM discounts.  though back then the discounts were much better too. or maybe it was things didnt cost as much back then as they do now. . just shows how things have changes over the years.   Sigh!'

Well, MM is just beginning and IIRC last years March Madness also got off to a somewhat 'meh' start. So we will just have to wait and see what happens. I think it was about mid-March last year before I finall got any really great bargains.
