Is that not what our purchase gives us? If I have a catistrophic hard drive failure some time in the future, should I not have the ability to download a file sometime in the future if need be? If that is not the case then we truly do not own the purchases that we are making here or at any other 3D site.

That's true. As I understand it, the only thing you own in perpetuity is the licence to use the content, not the content itself.

Don't confuse own with licensed to use content. We know that own means you could resell the content as a vendor and licensed to use means you can use the content as spelled out for your life time by the terms of the license. So in this context when people say own they mean licensed to use as spelled out by the term of the granted use license.

Actually that couldn't be true legally, you've licensed that content for what you licensed it for and you've licensed it for as long as you live and retain a copy of the content. They'd loose in a lawsuit if they tried to be cute somewhere in that iceberg of text.

However, of course in case of bankruptcy or keeping it that content available for you to redownload there as long as they remain in business is no obligation on their  part and plenty of online retailers of SW good make you pay for download guarantees of limited duration. I'd say you'd want a copy you use and two seperate archives, at least, locally. Due to the size saving that content in OneDrive, GoogleDrive or whatever, cloud saves aren't feasible.

So while it's clear DAZ isn't trying to be cute with forcing customers into purchasing re-download guarentees it's still best to keep of backups locally. DAZ and Poser content is the most expensive paid for thing on my computer overwhelmingly and it didn't take long for it to get there. Of course I don't have Maya, Max, ZBrush or those other programs so I might feel differently had I those on my computer too.

Recomend at least one kept somewhere off site.Back in 2012 my apartment burnt to the ground and I lost everything. I did have multiple backups but they were all on site and didn't survive the fire including the backup stored in the " fire proof" storage safe

I think the more modern SSD style storage media is liable to survive fires much better than optical media and HDDs except direct melting of the SSD. Also, your home / apartment insurance policy has were you can assign some of the value of your policy to various content and as it so happens most of the value of my home's content is my computer and it's contents although I limit to declaring it too $10000 which it hasn't and won't likely ever exceed, but like clothing, if it's a total loss, you replace with the insurance proceeds if need be and move on.

Granted, I'm privileged with having decent ISP (mostly), but I am so overjoyed, after decades of stuff getting lost, that cloud storage affords me security. My entire apartment can EXPLODE, and my stuff is still there, barring a civilization-ending event (in which 'do I have that email from last year' is going to be the least of my concerns)

Repeatedly asking the same question will not help - it will simply clog the thread with further unproductive debate on what you could or couldn't do, making it harder to deal with any other issues. Daz is aware of the question, and Traveler at RDNA has said there will be notice before any change that will block access (shouldl that be the outcome). I appreciate that this is frustrating and worrying for you, but at the moment there is nothing more to be done so I am going to ask that the topic be dropped until we do have more information.

The thread was still contining with discussions of backup strategies which  -while useful of course - are not germane to the RDNA/Daz merger and would be better in their own thread.

OK, I was just curious since there was nothing to go with it. I was curious if maybe it was a premeptive warning for me ... cheeky

    Why's this thread become unstuck?

Surely the FAQ thread about the ongoing merger should remain stickied, shouldn't it?

And why not add a link in the OP to the equivalent FAQ thread at RDNA?

Oh, before I forget: Will the migrated RDNA content be Smart Content compatible? Or will they be similar to the old V4 content with no Smart Content capabilities?

As you're all aware, there has been a lot announced here in the forums over the last two weeks.  We are aware that there are still outstanding questions.  Many of these answers are still in the process of being determined.  As such, I am goign to "un-sticky" this thread.  You will see other threads posted with additional information and announcement in the coming days and weeks.

We hear your questions.  We are aware of them.  We will answer them.

    Onward and upward :)

    Thanks DAZ_ann0314, hadn't seen that.

(Although a stickied FAQ with an OP that gets updated with new FAQ seems more logical to me)

Edit: Also thanks to BeeMKay for the post below

Can we get an ETA and what products will begin to be migrated? There are a number of items I'd be interested in getting from Runtime--I just don't have an account with them.

Also, it would be very helpful if such a list could be put in it's own sticky & updated by the moderators so as to not get flooded/burried by comments. (any opionated comments should be in their own threads.)

Keep in mind that there will be a number of products NOT coming over to DAZ, simply because the vendor either won't be moving over, OR they are retiring some products. If there is something in particular you want from there, it may be best to create an account and buy it there, just in case it doesn't come over here.

Stickies are a mixed bag on here.  I mostly ignore them because they are the same thing that's been there forever. Non-sticky threads pop back up when they have new activity. This makes them more noticable IMO. Of course, they can sink to page 2 and beyond when they stop receiving activity, but as long as there is activity they stay close to the surface.

  • Wow.  A gal takes a break from loggin in for a few months and companies merge laugh  This is actually kind of cool.  I hope it makes it easier to get my RDNA products into Studio.  The auto install manager over here has made me super spoiled.  I did see a question about "smart content" and RDNA items, but I didn't readily see an answer.  Forgive me if I missed it.

Will the transferring items get "smart content" updates as well?  I would love that.

Not necessarily when they first arrive, but they will probably get updated over time.

  • I have just changed my email account used for Daz3D and have tried to go to the Runtime DNA site to change my password but the page won't load for the site. Do I need to file a support ticket? I bought quite a few things from RDNA and want to make sure they're transferred over

The RDNA site no longer exists. It was completly shut down at the end of January. You could try contacting DAZ customer Service and see if they can help

Even at that only items that moved to DAZ were added to customers accounts. Other items that didn't move to DAZ had to be downloaded from RDNA  before they shut down in January.

Thank you, I'll try that, and I hope I didn't have too much left on DNA that I haven't previously downloaded!

How does one get the item they bought on RuntimeDNA's website associated with Daz Stuff? I have not bought much over at runtimedna except Sackdoss, and a couple of dariofish's items.

and a couple of older m1m2m3v1v2v3 animations blocks and a m4v4 animation block sets

At this point you may not be able to; but try contacting customer service Help . Contact Us > Submit a ticket. See also my post above.

I've been absent from digital art for a couple of year and I have just returned to see that RDNA has merged with Daz. How do I get my products from RDNA? Specifically Wild Hair, some of the aquatic sets, some Arki items. I can't even remember now what all I had. I just recently changed my email on this site but I do have the old one I used the same email for both for years.

    Thank you

I'd start with a support ticket.

Check your product Library. If 1) your RDNA email you purchased the item at RDNA and your email at DAZ at the time of the merger in 2016 was the same and 2) the item was transferred to DAZ, then the items were automatically added to your account. However, items that were not transferred to DAZ may no longer be recoverable.

Contacting customer service may help but this is generally what the situation is.
