what are the best skins to use with genesis 3

Hi guys,

What are the better more detialed skins to use with genesis 3 figures.

I'm tyring for realism in my renders.

I'm finding most of the skins are too smooth and too perfect looking. Like photoshoped airbrused cover models.

Do i just go with the highest res skins i can find or are some low res skins better overall.

thanks

Since I don't buy irregular, normal looking textures, I doubt I can help much with what you are specifically looking for. But the default V7 ones have lots of detail close up thanks to the additional maps (normal maps)

I would stick with the highest res maps you can find though.

Honestly, there are so many variables that have to be taken into account that it's unlikely that many people would agree on what makes a "best" skin.  Not only is "best" a rather subjective term, but there are a lot of technical issues to consider.  Are you rendering in Iray, 3DL, Lux or Octane?  What kind of lights are you using?   Closeups or medium shots?  How much tweaking are you going to put into the material settings?  Single pass or multi-render? How much postwork? The list goes on.  And, of course, there's the slippery definition of what looks "realistic".  Just as how no two photographers are ever going to get the exact same results, even if they're shooting with the same model, in the end the final result is as much about your own lighting and workflow as it is about a specific set of textures.  Which is why some people seem to be able to make any character sparkle while running DS 2 on a netbook, while others struggle to get what they want with the latest top of the line equipment and assets.

That said, I agree that a number of the G3F skins look a bit too clean and perfect... which is why I've been using a lot of my old V4 and G2F skins on G3F in order to get the look I want.

Raiya's skins are extremely realistic (having commonly occurring dermatological "flaws"), and the settings are optimized for a great look. She does have some skins that are more flawless, but they still do not approach the artificiality of the more prolific vendors. Also, now that V4 and G2F skins can be used with G3F: Raiya, Tempesta3D, Danae, Phoenix1966, AdamThwaites and Maddelirium have stores full of great realistic skins. My only peeve is the general lack of realistic, unplucked, un-made-up eyebrows (Tempesta3D being the notable exception). Many women do minimal plucking to their eyebrows, but most of the skins available have major plucking or just matte paintings rather than painted hairs. Enjoy the journey!

I like Raiya Cailin skin the best, but that's just a person preference as I don't like uniformly tanned skins or makeup that's been applied with a trowel.

I'd say, this is probably the best out-of-the-box skin for G3 available here. Having said that, I tweak them all, use bump from one with another, to see what I get. (Needless to say, I'm rarely happy enough to post to gallery; even then they have issues when I do. wink)

I am actually a huge fan of the textures that come with V7 and M7 now that there has been a fix to how Iray handles some of the settings.

Yes, those combined with their HD morphs give very, very nice results.
