Well, I don't think anything can really compare to the old DAZ Elite skins here in the shop. Man, wished they could have continued this series to the Genesis line. Well, it wasn't meant to be.

I think the artist that comes closest these days is Raiya. Not just with the quality of the textures but especially with the quality of the maps.

What's interesting from my experience, and I'm sure there's some scientific lighting thing that explains it, but to me it seems that darker skinned characters seem to have more realistic results right out of the box as opposed to characters with fairer skins...at least IMO

I have quite a few from Raiya's store...they are AMAZING...to me Raiya's are right up there with the elite textures in terms of realism

My favorite texture all time is Lilith. It is the best pale non makeup texture imo. I love that it has a bit of purple and green discoloration under the eyes.

I've had my eye on her. Beautiful, but enough freckles and discolorations to be believable.

  • I still love the elite textures. Just got a set to apply them to G2F with Iray settings. (Needs the V4 uvs from the V4 to G2F clone product)

V4 has so many great textures that still hold up today. Really the fact that G3F is the first genesis to not be compatible with V4 is what will probably hold me from going all in with G3F like I did with genesis and genesis 2..unless somebody comes out with a UV converter like they did for G2F but I believe somebody explained to me how that would be more challenging and maybe even unlikely to carry out.

Blacksmith3D already has, but I'm not sure how well it works since I have no Genesis 3 in my runtimes.

After asking CaymanStudios - the maker of "Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: G2F" (available at Renderosity) - someone on another thread reported they are already working on a V4 to G3F version.

The first real character purchase I made back in '11 was Marie Elite. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of Marie since. I've also used the bump, specular and SSS settings from Marie with other diffuse textures. Marie is good for light to medium tones.

For darker skin, Leena International is my current fave. My hat's off to Male-M3dia for one of the best female skins I have.

For a male character, I like RM Sebatsian from Rendo. The skin holds up well in closeups.

Those are gorgeous. While I was there' I spotted https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/hannah-2/2648847/ How are they getting such wonderful hair? Is it possible to get the hairline and eyebrows that realistic in Daz?

The hair seen in a lot of promo renders at Rendo is photoshopped on from stock photos of real peoples' hair. So basically, it's done 2D in post rather than rendered. The eyebrows are probably just part of the face texture map though, and do look like nice ones.

I also love the V4 Elite skins that others have mentioned, they're my favorite ever. Especially the bump maps. Elite Ariana skin just looks so pretty to me, the perfect natural golden tanned look and Lana is a fantastic pale skin. I like the restrained use of makeup on that line of textures too, very real-world.

The hair does look amazing, but you will see in the promos for the model, that the hair is not a 3D product. It is based on photo references, and was likely added in by photoshop. Was well done though.

Please note that some of those textures make use of Poser SSS and will need some (maybe a lot of) shader work to ever look decent in Studio.

Eyebrows that realistic ? When it comes to realism the problem with skin textures like Hannah IS the eyebrows - at least for me. Her eyebrows are symmetrical as many PA tend to mirror those, it's easier if you go for the 'perfect' model and to be fair it's less important if you don't do close portraits - but it's just not real. Left and right eyebrows are not exactly the same and especially if they are a bit more unique and/or dark it looks weird on close ups once you know about it. When buying new textures it's one of the first things I look for, as you can't hide them easily under clothing.

Realism - and real beauty as well - lies in the imperfections (of the skin, not the texture), that's why I adore danae's work. Got all of them, just like all from the Elite series.

That's correct. Personally I prefer using Reality/luxrender when going for realism, so they need some work anyway.

I'm not sure. The Elite Textures were apparently mostly done by Yannek (and some by Morris), while I get more of a Raiya vibe at least from most of the Genesis 2 character textures. All of them are pretty damn good, so whoever does them, they know their job.

Lilith isn't my favorite overall, but I would agree that she's probably the best for really pale skin. I also love her HD morphs.

  • how about any of the g2/g3 ones here? Fair few that look pretty good of course those that do the promos and the really good renderers here have the best setups to get the most/best out of just about any skin/character here. Should redo their Reby Sky as G2/3 since they fully commissioned her to do a skin/character of her for v4/genesis and must still have all the original scans they did of her

I like the render Cerberus did http://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/102837/

using Stella HD for Victoria 6 http://www.daz3d.com/stella-hd-for-victoria-6

I have her too and guess what she's by Raiya so yeah guess she has to be one of the most realistic skin/character creators has a lot of great ones in her store on my wishlist or bought already and just noticed Bethany 7 is one of hers

V6, Gia and, Monique were done by Raiya I think, The rest were done by yannek, (other than Callie and Ysebeau whose textures were done by the 3rd parties that created them). I'm not operating with insider daz knowledge here, my proof is if you compare say, Mei lin or Liliths textures to the additional textures for callie with yannek listed as creator, they maps are pretty clearly done by the same person. Also if you compare the specular maps to the old elite ones they are very much the same style

... I have spent way too much time looking at skin texture maps. I've gone kinda conspiracy theory about them here.

But yes all of them are pretty fine.

I've known too many women who tweeze, pull, poke, prod and even pay money...then follow up with a pencil to line their brows to get them to look that 'perfect'...so, just because they are symmetrical doesn't necessarily mean 'not real'...it could mean 'expensive', too.

Still their left and right eyebrows don't show exact symmetry on every single hair when you get closer ..
