Daz Connect is insufferably slow [Now Better Again]

It took me 9 minutes to download and install Eva 7 with Daz Connect earlier today. Now it has been working for 30 minutes on Olympia 7, Michael 7 and Teen Josie 7 (all 3 selected for install at the same time). It is barely over half done with each of them. This is way slower that what I've experienced with the DIM, and yet Daz Connect has been advertised as being much faster. The first couple days I figured it was server overload with the new release. But now, days later, it is just as bad, or worse. I have reliable, fast, cable internet service,  and I have no problem with downloads from other sites.

I haven't noticed other people complain about Daz Connect speed in the forum. Is it just my computer, or are you experiencing the same slow Daz Connect service?

I will say that it takes quite some time to load the smart content tab and when I did my test on loading one of the freebies via connect it seemed to take a while. Just the dragon queen outfit nothing else.

  • Is there a way to see the download rate in the UI?  All I've seen is just a progress bar for % complete now how many kb/s.

I don't know a way to see the rate in Kb/s inside DS 4.9.

Task Manager will give an approximation of network usage by application.

There are a number of download threads active at the same time so keeping track of the download rate is a touch tricky. I recommend using task manager to show the network usage speed, it is quite accurate from what I have seen.

Also, when downloading from Daz Connect I see speeds about 20x faster than what I have been able to get out of DIM so I am quite surprised that you are seeing downloads as being slower.

Or, are you just referring to smart content / fetching metadata speed? Because those have different root causes.

In a test to see if there was a problem with the servers/CDN I just did a fresh download of Michael 6. Total time from double clicking the icon to having it installed was 11 seconds and network transfer was fairly steady around 200Mbps.

I am referring to double clicking on an icon in the Available Product tab and downloading and installing it. I will try Michael 6 and compare my time with your 11 seconds.

It is very slow. I prefer dim.

OK, I had Michael 6 installed with the DIM already (from 4.8 days), so I uninstalled him with the DIM. Then I closed the DIM and opened DS 4.9. I located Michael 6 in the Available tab of the Smart Content Products. I right clicked and selected Install. It took 5 MINUTES. The task manager showed Daz Studio Application net usage at around 4 Mbps with occasional spikes to around 8 Mbps and right back to 4.

What other information can I gather to help you help me resolve this?

Edited to add some other information: I closed DS 4.9 and opened DIM. I deleted the Michael 6 package and downloaded it again with DIM. It took less than a minute to download and install. The DIM showed download rates of about 700 MBps.

Edited again. I wrote "The DIM showed download rates of about 700 MBps." That can't be right, I don't think. I'm downloading something else now and it was only 2.7 MBps. I'm pretty sure I was careful with the MBps vs. Mbps, so I don't know ???? Maybe I meant to type 7.0.

4 mb/s is pretty fast man. The only time I see downloads going way faster than that is a .gov FTP or a linux torrent with hundreds of seeders.

Just to add a data point, I repeated your experiment with Micheal 6 from here. The download took 12s for me. So, it clearly varies by user and location (I am in Canada).

    Ciao

The task manager reports Mbps which is Mega Bits per second, not megabytes. During my 12 s download it showed over 100 Mbps. So 4 Mbps is quite slow.

Everything I have downloaded, including Karen 7, has been around 12 seconds. It was slower the first day or so, up to a minute in a couple of cases, but since then it has speeded back up. We have rather middling internet and I don't even want to think about how many wireless things feeding off it as well.

Wow, and I thought my 25-30 mb/s top speed was pretty decent. 700 mb/s is damn impressive lol.

I agree with Khory. I was downloading some outfits today and found connect much faster than downloading from the site (which I also did today)

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,235

I ran a network speed test, just to be sure my Internet connection was as reliable and fast as I thought it was. The result was download speed of 19.4 Mbps, slightly better than what I pay for. I also downloaded a large file from another site, and Task Manager showed Firefox using 23 Mbps, even better. So, my Internet is good, it seems.

Perhaps it is as simple as location. Though Lyoness are quite litteraly across the contry from each other we may be closer to a hub that Daz things trundle down from.

I actually wrote 700 MBps. I'm thinking I transcribed something wonky there! Darn, now I don't know what the number was in the DIM. I'm pretty sure I was careful with the Mbps vs. MBps, but the 700????? Anyway, I'm sure about the time in minutes. The bottom line is that DIM was 5 times FASTER than Daz Connect to download and install the same product.

Maybe so, if Daz Connect is connecting through a different path than DIM. Otherwise, I don't understand why DIM was 5 times faster for me than Daz Connect.

  • I have been trying to update two content items with Connect and it has been a hour, so far, and the update has not finished. One is stuck at 94% and the other has not even started yet.  I have no problem with Connect, but I do have a problem if it will not work or if it takes forever to download and install content and/or updates to content.  Is anyone else experiencing this?crying

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,235

I'm having problems, too. Here is my thread.

  • barbultbarbult Posts: 26,235

A new thread just started up on this same topic. I'm not alone.

  • I also must mention that my internet speed is 35 mbps and I never have any trouble with downloads.  My DIM download quite fast...so....frown

I just downloaded via connect a product that I know is huge (its one of mine) and it did take longer than last night. Nearly 20 seconds, so there is some slowdown somewhere.

Yes, it should be different servers and probably routing, too...

    Merged threads

  • Well, this morning I cannot even get connect to work. Has anyone put a ticket in for this? If not, I will.wink

  • That's strange I just tried the beta of 4.9 an hour ago and I find it way quicker than DIM and I'm in Oz !

Make sure to differenciate between MB/s and Mb/s; one is about 8 times faster (8 bits in a Byte).
