Daz Connect is insufferably slow [Now Better Again]

  • meanwhile I got it to run fast enough to crash my system. Of course all the files were already present when I did so, so when I multi-selected a few hundred items to 'install' it just went nuts trying to check all the files at once. And since I've only got 8gb ram, I'm guessing my poor little laptop just couldn't handle it.  Did finally get the whole library restored though.

  • Well, I do not know if the processes are the same with connect, but the problem I am having is with upgating two content items. One, Mina for Genesis 2 females, will not even start to update and Genesis 2 Male 3D Print Geograft will only go to 97% and stall.  This has not changed since last night.  I have restarted the upgrade and I am in the same spot. I am running 4.9 public beta.  I guess I will just enter a support ticket and see what they have to say about it.

Yes, enter a ticket, please. I entered a ticket for my slowness problem, but I have not had it stall for hours and never finish. I've only received the mechanical response to my ticket so far, because I only put it in yesterday.

That's strange I just tried the beta of 4.9 an hour ago and I find it way quicker than DIM and I'm in Oz !

Connect...the files are being served from a multitude of servers (not sure if they are being run over Cloudfront servers or something else...but it is a distributed network) spread out around the globe.  So distance to Daz doesn't matter...distance to where ever it is you are connecting to and congestion there are what matters.

Today I am getting Daz Connect Mbps rates (as reported by Task Manager) much higher than yesterday. Yesterday I saw about 4 Mbps. Today I see about 12-16 Mbps. I'm still not getting 11 second installations, but it is much improved. Of course I am installing different products than yesterday, if that makes any difference. So maybe whatever log jam was blocking me yesterday has been broken????

That's just gravity making the bits fall faster down to the underside of the world ... ;)

The DAZ Connect activities are being recorded in the DAZ Log file, I had an error recorded in there.    Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File and scroll to the bottom for some clues.

You are a genius !!! wink

P.S good thing I don't believe in the flat earth theory or it would be really slow Lol

OK, this is BAD. My Daz Connect throughtput is now in the tens of Kbps, according to task manager. One product has been downloading and installing for over 30 minutes. It is about 75% done.

I have some insight into why my speeds were so slow for some products. Updating metadata was failing for some products. A message flashes briefly in the lower left corner of the DS window to tell me that, but the log file also tells the story.  Error messages are logged for each metadata update failure. When I tried to download and install one of the products that failed metadata update, Daz Connect could not find the product files and logged errors for every file it could not find. That process of looking for files and logging errors took a long time. So, when I installed a product that had updated metadata, the installation was fast and had excellent network performance. When I tried to install a product without updated metadata, the process was extremely slow and showed horrible network performance.

As of right now, all of my metadata updates have succeeded and all products that I'm trying to download are going fairly fast. The Daz guys are working their butts off to fix this stuff. I'm seeing progress. Yippee! smileyyes

  • Been away for a long time but this download is really sooooooooo slow! Install Manager is downloading with 1.1 MB/s (8.8 Mb/s) while my connection is 18.75 MB/s (150 Mb/s). Taking forever :(
