Stonemanson's ghost tree

I brought out and rendered a part of Urban Sprawl III today, more exactly us03roads01. And in the corner of Easy Street / North Street there's a tree which is not visible in the view port but is showing up in renders.

First I thought that had to do with transparency maps or some other quirk, but I've been rotating the camera around that spot several times and made test renders, both in Iray and 3DL, and that tree is there in the renders but not in the view point. Now what is that about? Some quirk or some easter egg or what? And what is making that happen.

Here's a part with the view point (to the left) and a render (to the right) and you can see the tree in the render and that it's missing in the view point. And it puzzles sanity out of me. (The bus stop behind is not part of US III but an older prop)

The trees are set not to show in the preview to reduce system-load, all those leaves.

ITs also an instance so the actual tree is located somewhere else in the scene and duplicated there

    Clever clever!
How do one make instances? That could be useful to know one day.

In the Create menu, New Node Instance or New Node Instances.
