Creating structured forum posts with multiple images (solved thx!)

Update / Edit:

Thanks everyone for helping out.

In another thread I was asked

linvanchene, did you mean to post just the tiny thumbnail for your example illustration? (Within the body of your post, I mean.)

Especially when you are trying to discuss the effects of changing some parameters it can be quite difficult to figure out which image is supposed to illustrate which setting when they are all just attached at the end of the post.

When writing tutorials or any kind of replies that use images to illustrate an answer it seems recommended to add the image directly inside the post after the sentence that references the image.

Unfortunately on the DAZ forum I struggle with doing that (as you now may have noticed and pointed out)

I do not know if it is possible what I would like to do or if I am just doing it wrong.

But so far I did not observe any posts at all on the DAZ forum that feature well structured forum posts with multiple images added inside the post.

What I would like to do is

- upload the image to the post and find it attached at the end of the post (this is working)

- next to the attached images I would enjoy having a button called "Place inline" (not available on the DAZ forum afaik)

image

- after clicking on the "Place inline" button the images are automatically resized to a reasonable preview size and place inside the post text at the current cursor location (automatic solution not available on the DAZ forum afaik but there is a manual workaround described below by Fishtales)

- when the image is added inline somewhere in the post there is not also an additional duplicate of it attached at the end of the post. (workaround found -> post by MelanieL)

image

- clicking on the inline preview thumbnail image should trigger to open the image full screen (works in Chrome or Edge. workaround for Internet Explorer -> post by MelanieL)

What seems possible on the DAZ forum is to just drag and drop an attached image to a location inside the post.

This does seem to create a tiny thumbnail.

I noticed that trying to adjust the size of the thumbnail just results in a blurred mess because the preview image does not seem to scale with the increased size.

But at least the tiny thumbnail serves as some kind of place holder so people at least know that when they reach the thumbnail now is the intended moment to have a look at the attached image.

So if someone  knows how to properly create structured posts with multiple images on the DAZ forum then please give me some hints...

example post with multiple images.jpg
1920 x 1080 - 193K
Attached images - Place inline.jpg
1920 x 1080 - 228K
I do not know.png
1920 x 1080 - 7M
If the image is added inline there is not additinal attached copy.jpg
1920 x 1080 - 315K

Once the files are attached post the reply.

When the reply shows up go to the right hand top side of your post and click on edit. This will bring up the edit box.

In windows I Ctrl/right click on each thumbnail to open the full size images in a new tab.

In the edit box put the cursor in the place where you want the image to appear in the body of the text.

Click on the add image button, the square with the mountain and sun, which opens up another window. Get the image address you want to add and paste it into the URL box; set the width to 800; click on the Link tab and paste the address into the URL box and in the Target box set it to New Window (_blank).

Do this with all the images and then save the post. The post should appear with all the images set to 800 pixels wide in the body of the text. If the images are larger than 800 then clicking on them will bring up the full size image. If you forget to set the image size to 800 then the forum software will resize them to 800 pixels wide which can distort some images.

    Don't delete the thumbnails.

    Thank you a lot!

I will use this as test post to follow the steps.

Now I place the cursor and use the add image button and paste the URL, set width at 800

    Update/ Edit:

Second try with "open in new tab" URL from attachment:

    k. removed again. May experiment further later. So don't mind me goofing around in this post with image sizes...

Trying again with latest instructions from MelanieL:

add the URL of the image to the second page of that image box Fishtales wrote about. The pull-down "Target" box allows you to specify whether a click opens in the same IE window/tab

Awesome. Now it is also possible to click on the image to open in a new window in Internet Explorer.

    So far so good.

But now I still have the following remaining "issues":

    - 1) you may first have to post the reply unstructered before you can know the URL of the full size attached image and structure the post

    - 2) there is that duplicate attachment at the end of the post. Especially if you add multiple images that takes up a lot of space. (workaround found -> post by MelanieL)

    - 3) clicking on the inline 800 width verison of the image to open up the full size 1920x1080 version is not working in Internet Explorer (workaround found -> post by MelanieL)

    Retested:

Seems clicking on the inline 800 image is actually working in google chrome and microsoft edge

Well thank you again for helping out. At least now I know how to create larger thumbnails and not to use IE for the DAZ forum.

Still have the impression that creating structured posts with multiple images could be a faster automated process like on other forums.

It looks like you have used the thumbnail address rather than the full image address.

On number 2) of your post - I know it doesn't make things any more automated, but if you just don't like seeing the thumbnails at the bottom as well as the large inline images then you can use the thread was set up as a staging post for the image thumbnails here: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/59113/an-ot-thread-for-images

ETA: On  number 3) then clicking on it will open the full-size as long as you add the URL of the image to the second page of that image box Fishtales wrote about. The pull-down "Target" box allows you to specify whether a click opens in the same IE window/tab or a new one - the default is the same tab I think - but the reader can override by right-clicking and picking "New tab".

^_- Thanks a lot for that link. Indeed an interesting workaround by McGyver.

Thanks a lot!  That did the trick. Inline images now also open full screen in Internet Explorer.
