Ambient occlusion

A lot of V4 textures come with 2 sets of shaders 'Ambient Occlusion' & 'No Ambient Occlusion'. I think I understand the purpose & drawbacks of Ambient Occlusion.

Other than a faster render, is there any case where the 'No Ambient Occlusion' shader is better?

If I threw our the 'No Ambient Occlusion' in a fit of house cleaning, can I speed up the render by deleting the Ambient Occlusion nodes?
