Hello, I have a question on maps, I have a product bought that has Iray Textures only, I have changed the Iray shader to the DS default shader, no problem so far the only thing I want to know is if the Roughness map (Iray) is the bump map (DS default) or is it the Displacement map?

Comments
Neither...both...either...
None of the 3Delight shaders that are commonly used in Studio, especially the default, use the roughness map, so it's a 'spare'. Yes, it can be plugged in to somewhere else, but it's not really optimal for bump or displacement, even though it can (but it's not really any less optimal than the typical desaturated diffuse maps that are commonly used for bump/displacement in Studio).
I thought Roughness was more akin to the inverse of Glossiness.
I do not know that is why I was asking
I am still a 3Delight addict
So am I, 3Delight lights and surfaces make sense to me. I imagine for people with a background in real-world lighting (photography, cinematography, stage lighting, etc.) Iray is much more intuitive, but for me it isn't.
It is...sort of. But it doesn't make a good specular map.
Glossiness, in 3DL terms works at 'macro' scale...roughness (in both 3DL and Iray) is at a 'micro' scale, except none of the common shaders use the roughness parameter.
The other possibility is to test the map. I have just made a simple scene and rendered in Daz Studio with iray.
Then I have attached the simple map to the Diffuse Roughness channell to all objects
and rendered it again in Daz Studio with iray. Rendering time was 15% shorter than before.
I could not find the roughness in 3Delight (DS default). Where did you found it?
Glossiness and Roughness are inverses. If you want to plug in a roughness into 3DL basic DS shader, put it in Glossiness and use LIE to invert the image.
