adding metadata to 3rd party products - question on multi-Generation input
Hi all,
I've been adding metadata to some Rendo stuff, etc and come upon a prob.
I have a expression set from i13 but it is for V4 AND G2F. I have added metadata for the G2F half of the package but I don't understand how to now add in data or the V4 part of the package. Part of the prob is you name the product, I did this once when I added entry and files for the g2f expressions. How are multi gen products handled (in layman terms) as far as naming the item and adding in the other gens files, etc for the second half of the product? Do I, for example, have to add the second half of the product as a totally seperate product or is this differentiated not by product name but by adding the different files? Hopefully this makes sense. I'm sure there could be a few more hidden snags, so any moderately thorough explanation would be most kindly appreciated. Thanks.

If these show up in the Poser content directories, you have to add them to a product named exactly the same as the first one you created. It'll say "Product already exists. Would you like to add this to the exisiting product?" and then just hit okay or yes or whatever. Have you already looked here? -> http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/packaging/tutorials/adding_metadata/start
Thanks. I did see that some time ago but haven't looked at it since, but I'm not sure that helps with the problem. I've been using two other nice tutorials, unfortunately they don't address adding mixed generation content.
Well, I've done some before with mixed generation content... The V4 stuff is usually in the Poser Content portion of the library and you have to add it to the same product you already created.
I think it's up to you if you are creating your own products and metadata. Recent multi-gen products I have bought have all the generations fits in the same product, but these were released at the same time and it literally was one product, so I can't see how they could split it. I'd probably make them separate products myself as it can be confusing otherwise. It would depend on the icons—whether they are marked with the generation they are intended for, although this should not be a problem if you are happy to rely on compatibilities and use filter by context.
No you're right it is in the Poser Content area. I was just having problems adding it to the rest of the package, but I don't believe I went back through the 'creating name' thing and such that u mentioned. Maybe thats where my trouble or confusion is at. I know that I added them but could not seem to set compatability for them or something or another because you had to select the files and they should appear above in the categories tab (I believe it was that tab), it would only show the other generation I had put in previously. I didn't know about the re-naming again thing. I will try that in the morning after I get out of work. Thank you.
Oh no they are the same product, it's not really split into three seperate products. The product actually says it has poses for V4/G2F/Victoria 6, that's how it reads out. I just added in the g2f but couldn't figure out how to add in the other two pose sets of the package, especially being they are different than each other to an extent. It may be the renaming part that BurningChrome mentioned above. I was able to import all 3 folders in but it would not let me edit the last 2 pose sets because the g2f set was always active in the database, if that makes any sense. This is a hard subject to explain for me, but thats it in a nut-shell, somewhat.
