weird skydome lighting issue

Am trying to do a scene rendering with Iray with a skydome and the lighting seems fine when I don't use the skydome but for some reason when I add the skydome it goes VERY dark?!? (in pic) I even tried adding lighting before rendering to no effect.

Why is it doing this? any solutions please? I am stumped.

You can't easily use a skydome in Iray. It will block the light.

There are several solutions:

1. Use a HDRI. It will give you light and background. You can buy them in the shop (example: http://www.daz3d.com/skies-of-iradiance-sunny-sky-hdris-for-iray ), or get them free at several pages.
2. Turn your skydome into a light emitter.
3. use a skydome for Iray by Flipmode, like http://www.daz3d.com/easy-environments-snowy-mountains
