OT - telephony cable modems wireless performance

Having trouble finding info -- cable company recently replaced our Ubee DVW3201 telephony cable modem with an Arris TG1672 because the Ubee couldn't support the higher speeds. However, it seems like the wireless signal on the Arris isn't as good, so unless we're in the same room as the modem we seem to be getting slower speeds. It's hard to judge because there was also a service outage. Does anyone know of any data on whether this impression is accurate?

I have an arris modem but not that model and it seems to work well; but maybe this discussion of your model will be of some help:
