how do I install things in Daz 4.9?

I just did a windows re-install and put Daz back on. I am trying to put some characters back into Daz which use the 'runtime' folder. Where abouts are they supposed to go please?

    1. My Library (or whatever your main content directory is called).  Just merge their Runtime folder with the one located there.

    2. Another folder set up as a content folder and mapped in Studio...

Is there supposed to already be a runtime folder in My Library? I checked and it didn't appear there was one.

How are you installing the Studio content?

If you are using DIM it could be My Daz3D library...in which case it would be best to map a new folder.

Your best bet is to use DIM (the DAZ Install Manager) to do it for you.  But you first need to set up a default content directory, be it on your C: drive, or somewhere else.  And both DAZ Studio and DIM need to know where that directory is.  In my own case, my DAZ content is located in a directory directly under the C:\ root directory, called '\DAZ Studio Content\' (to distinguish it from my '\Poser Content\' group of content directories).

Then, in the 'Content Library' tab, click the icon (a right-pointing arrow, with four horizontal lines) to pop up the content library context menu, and then select 'Content Directory Manager'; it will display a dialog like this (I expanded the tree nodes, mostly to make the image look a bit busier -- just kidding; I expanded them to show the already-defined directories):

Select the 'DAZ Studio Formats' node, and you'll see the 'Add...' button become enabled under the 'Directories' group.  Click that 'Add...' button, and you'll see the familiar Windows 'Select Folder' dialog appear.  (You are running Windows, are you not?  If not, then all bets are off; I haven't used DAZ Studio under the Mac OS in ages!  And if you aren't, then ignore the rest of this post!)

Navigate to the content directory you created to be your default directory and click 'Choose Folder'.  This will add that directory to the collection of directories that DAZ Studio searches for content.  Click 'Accept'.

Now you need to do pretty much the same thing in DIM.  Launch DIM.  Once DIM is running, click the little gear-looking icon at the far right, just under the window's title bar.  This will bring up the Settings window, which looks like this:

Click the 'Installation' tab, and you'll see something that kinda-sorta looks like this (your mileage may vary):

See that little '+' button near the bottom of the window, at the far left?  That's what you click to add a directory to where you want your content to be installed.  And you'll get yet another Windows Select Folder dialog.  Navigate to the directory you created to hold your content and select it.  Then click 'OK' from the Windows dialog, and 'Accept' from the DIM dialog.

This will set up both DAZ Studio and DIM to point to the same directory as your default content directory.  From this point on, anything that DIM installs, will be installed to that directory, and any content that DAZ Studio needs to find, it will look for in that directory.

Of course, you can add additional content directories, using the same method; but you need to make sure that both DAZ Studio and DIM know about them.

    Hope this helps.
