My PC Windows 10 just upgraded to the Anniversary version and scene that render 8 min before render now 40 min .. something got screwed again .. need to reinstall my display drivers again maybe helps as the upgrade definitely reset my all Nvidia settings I had under the Nvidia Panel

Driver reinstalled : 2 cards render faster than 4 ,  now I don''t know it is DS and iray issue with new windows 10 build or what is going on ..

I mean scene that rendered 8 min before with 4 cards now render 8 min with 2 cards .. but with 4 cards 40 min .. it is crazy and I guess you don;t know what is going on , do you ? LOL

why MS have to screw my rig each time they upgrade own build and make it worse than it was before and messing with all devices that worked just perfect .. I hope this did not slow down now DS with iray but looks like it did , feel like back to 4.8 again

also monitored the GPUs while rendering the GPUs usage not get higher than 40% while rendering while frane buffer is higher thann70% what is really not usual in my case , time reinstall  the Windows upgrade and wait for better moment when all drivers are ready .

I guess have to say bye to the 4.9.2.70 build for no anyway

Is there a performance increase for single cards?

  • MEC4DMEC4D Posts: 5,249

Single card always use 100% performance but there may be some improvements with other stuff and fixed bugs in the new iray engine  , a lot of things improve for me with multiple devices , the only thing that does not changed is interactive mode still using 8GB with a single cube in a scene where is should be no more usage than 1GB while rendering .

I can't find the stereo cameras so maybe they need more time to make it works in DS or location is not know lol  anyway this iray engine update is great and works well with the new windows and I did not even used my CPU on higher clock just 3.3 Ghz what is fantastic , no more issues in view port with multiple devices I guess someone listen at invidia ;)

no matter 1 or more cards it is worthy installing anyway

...what about CPU rendering? Still slow as molasses?

  • MEC4DMEC4D Posts: 5,249

I tried rendering with CPU but the utilization was low below 40% so I may reinstall all my drivers for mother board and chips as MS installed own drivers that seems not optimal for not one device on my PC , how they can run a system upgrade like that without any warning, it turned the powerful PC into a tablet , if I know I would make sure I have all new drivers supporting the new system upgrades to next level .

some old drivers that worked with win10 are not compatible anymore with the new sneaky upgrades

so can't tell yet anything , I will test later when I replace all drivers .

You re-installed existing video drivers, right?

I tried the new DS Beta, rebooted but don't notice any performance difference, but I didn't benchmark any scenes.  Still seems the same amount of time to load, start rendering.  Rendering difficult to say but seems the same.  I did not re-install video drivers (Nvidia's are 368.81 released 7/14).

I have two straight from Nvidia Titan X with an i7-6700K quad core processor on Win 10 64-bit.

Yes I did as I did not trust the windowns Anniversary system upgrades it messed up to much  ,  I run 4 Titan X so I had some issues with early iray engines so now it got fixed somehow that why I experience the speed boost , the GPU scaling is the same with 2 cards as before .. but improve with 3-4 ways . Still 1-2-3 ways render faster without Optix * better GPU scaling ) , but 4 ways is faster with Optix on .. and optimal the way I wanted it to be so totally happy about the BETA and can't wait for the 2016.2 and the new spherical cameras

No I am on Win 10 Pro since last year, I am talking about the new Windows Anniversary System Upgrades , as there will be not windows 10.1 , so they upgrade the system without calling it win10.1 or whatever  , windows 10 forever .. I was thinking the upgrade is just update as usual , but it was NEW full system upgrade like win8 to win8.1 , it catch me unexpected so now I set it on defer and do it when I want in the future but the delay will be only for couple of months and eventually no choice anyway . I care less about the new features , I care about functional system the way I set it up , but I already fixed everything so no more issues , all drivers up to date and replaced with original , a lot of them was made specific to support the new win upgrade like audio and others , also I had to reinstall 2 programs again .. but that was no biggy

    ...sticking with W7 myself.

Heard that the Anniversary Upgrade no longer allows for disabling certain 'features" like Cortana. Bad enough they force all updates on your system, whether you want/need them or not, without any choice.

  • MEC4DMEC4D Posts: 5,249

there is less and less choices you have in this world .. what you can do , at the end you have to give up anyway .. so I prefer to follow new stuff when it is still easy to follow and I like Cortana on my phone , very handy when you are on the way ... I haven nothing to hide , the time of privacy is only an illusion we still believe in .. but there is none

....yeah the telemetry really is just usage tracking and you can disable that (I believe, unless the Anniversary update quashed that too).

As I am not running a business, I have no need for digital "assistant" to manage my daily life, I like my independence, keeps the mind sharp (which is why I'll never set foot in one of those "masions de morte" which is what I call assisted living facilities). I totally disliked Clippy in the Office programmes (nothing but an annoying distraction while trying to get work done) and the search dog on XP (both of which I disabled with impunity). I don't need a cutesy interface or some digital persona to remind me when to feed the cat, take the dustbin out, or change my socks.

...and I certainly do not need a render job or scene building session to be interrupted by a system reboot after some new update was auto-downloaded and installed.

I didn't think anything could be worse than W8. with its Playskool™ UI that threatened to turn my workstation into a giant desktop smartphone.  I was wrong.

As long as W7 Daz, Carrara, Hexagon, Bryce, and Gimp still work together, I'll be fine.  Loved XP, I love W7, but the boys in Redmond tested my resolve with 8.0 and totally lost me with 10. Crikey my nearly 10 year old 32 bit XP notebook is still running. In equivalent human years it is currently 179 and still kicking, hope I am when I'm that old.

The fact you have nothing to hide, is how 'they' convince you into giving up freedoms; giving up freedoms is how we are made less safe.

And everyone has something to hide - this relates at the least to passwords, email details and bank and credit card details.

On Cortana, can I just hide the taskbar icon or unpin it?  I really hope there is a work around to disabling it.  I have no use for that functionality on my desktop!

  • MEC4DMEC4D Posts: 5,249

So you think MS is collecting all this to steal your money , password and e-mails ? lol  they have it all if they want it , I purchased by them windows with my credit card and I pay subscriptions with my bank account as that is safer than using credit or debit card online .. that what my bank told me to do for better security . No credit card is safe on internet if they want they will hack you and nothing will protect you .. for that reason President can't use a phone or go to internet buying stuff or even connect own computer as there is no 100% security ..  you just lucky or you don't and all the stuff that "'protecting"' your privacy are for only one thing, to keep you less paranoid about and make it harder for others to hack but it does not prevent anything 100%..  the only secure moment you have when your internet connection is OFF

No there is not, I can shut down Cortana on my phone and tablet  to prevent higher battery usage but on the PC no options ,  I am not using it on PC and btw Cortana can operate your computer or phone-tablets using your voice, open your programs, type your e-mails or messages hand free especially good while driving   , well I am not driving while on PC and I have 2 hands free , my workstation has very limited programs , I do the other stuff on my other devices where it is more handy , but even win 10 pro that have more freedom in settings they do not included the option anymore .

With updates I have this option

Defer upgrades in Windows 10 Pro

    •  Windows 10 Pro edition let you defer upgrades to your PC. When you defer upgrades, new Windows features won’t be downloaded or installed for several months. Deferring upgrades doesn’t affect security updates. Note that deferring upgrades will prevent you from getting the latest Windows features as soon as they’re available.

    Active Hours

when I set my active hours for example from 8 am to 9 pm, windows will not automatic reboot or install any updates while I am working on important stuff between the hours

...but you still have to accept them.  Deferring doesn't necessarily protect against a corrupted update or ones you don't need.  As my schedule is rather irregular, there really is no "good time" to schedule updates. I currently deal with them when I find I have a block of time I'm not using the system for something else..

With the "Anniversary Update" taking away the choice to disable or remove certain features I would never use and don't want, MS made it even less likely that W10 would ever find it's way onto any of my systems.  This kind of heavy handed policy really doesn't instill customer loyalty or confidence.

Deferring is for system upgrade with new features that can be delayed for months but if the feature are interesting I am upgrading of course , Active hours are for security patches updates that I prefer to install in the right time it does not reboot computer at its own until I want  so. I was never interrupted with unexpected reboot from win 10 pro yet .  I have my phone and tablet running the same system in synchronization that why I prefer it and of course touch # 1 favorite . Everyone have personal choice .

You can actually dig down to the process itself and stop it from running; maybe not the best idea, but MS in their infinite wisdom have left folks with no alternative. Well Linux is looking pretty damn good.

    FROM DAZ3D

Making the move from Iray 2015 to Iray 2016 is the first (required) step toward being able to provide access to its new features. This does not mean that all of the new 2016 features have been added to Daz Studio, rather that the work required to utilize Iray 2016 in the same fashion that Iray 2015 has been utilized prior to this point is completed and ready for testing. Builds that integrate Iray 2016 have been going to the Private Builds channel for a time and we are now at a point that testing by a wider base is warranted. The good news is that so far testing has gone pretty well. There have been a few changes in Iray 2016 that required some adjustments to be made in Daz Studio, but nothing of particular concern so far.

The Iray 2016.2 SDK is expected to make it to developers in the latter part of September, according to public statements made by NVIDIA representatives that are close to its development (see: NVIDIA Advanced Rendering Forum > Iray > Iray Rendering Technology - Open Forum > Will the Geforce GTX 1080 be supported... : #11 and #15). We are as interested as anyone to see Iray support the Pascal generation GPUs.

On Cortana, can I just hide the taskbar icon or unpin it?  I really hope there is a work around to disabling it.  I have no use for that functionality on my desktop!

...but you still have to accept them.

You can actually dig down to the process itself and stop it from running; maybe not the best idea, but MS in their infinite wisdom have left folks with no alternative. Well Linux is looking pretty damn good.

...yeah  you can shut it down completely but then you'll never get any updates again including the ones you actually need.

I just wish Daz thought the same about Linux

While I was testing out W10, I enabled it and disabled it that way; the laptop I got had home version on it. It worked fine. Not as good as the old system when I set it to let me know when they were available and I could see what I was being asked to install; I mean, MS have never pushed out updates that messed up ya system.
