I'm noticing that character makers are not making the list at all.  No one is faithful to a specific character artist?
    Daz Characters, silver, emmaandjordi,malem3dia, gypsyangel?

I was thinking about Characters and who I go for, and I like a ton of character makers, but I guess the thing is, they all make billions of characters so I have loads from everyone already which makes it hard for them to feel "essential."

I know there are the Originals, but I'd probably go for Thorne characters if she started making more the way there used to be tons (but again that's mainly because there's a lack of them right now.)

While I was writing the post I was totally thinking "it's okay I own some of her characters~"

But I don't mean it to say I don't like characters or having characters isn't essential - just that for me personally, having a few from each artist is generally ideal (mostly because budget or I'd buy them all, obviously.) The main reason I think Zev0 is so heavily mentioned here is that his morphs do things so different from other alternatives, whereas no matter how nice a character is, all of them look really good these days.

yeah. it's ok. I'm sorta joking.

I do not have such a list and always look at the promo images, deliberating if the particular item will be usefull for me.

I can agree, that sometimes I could not pass on the item, so may be the list exists in my subconscious part of my mind ;)

The list or not, it does not prevent from buying a lot of items anyway.

    Without looking at? None.

There are a few vendors who are more or less guaranteed that I will look at the product, even if I don't buy it right now or at all, but I won't buy an item I don't need, even if it's made by a vendor whose work I really like.

I don't do buy without looking, and don't think I have 100% of any store, but your characterful promos certainly make me look at your sets (and I have a fair number of them).

As others have specified, and as OP said herself, it's not so much instant buy without even looking at the product, it's more knowing that whatever I buy from a particular favourite vendor will be high quality, have ease of use, will work with the genres that I love, and doesn't contain any of my pet peeves. :)

And of course, like about 90% of other peeps here, whether I can afford it. I have no quibble with the prices in the store at all - it's only because of my now reduced budget that i have to think long and hard over whether I purchase something.

That said, the vendors that I usually immediately throw onto the wishlist or in my cart (depending on current funds) would be (off the top of my head):

BadKittehCo (Connie) - regardless of what genre or what type of product Connie makes, you can guarantee that not only will they be of the highest quality, but they will be packed solid with morphs. She puts everything but the kitchen sink in there, when it comes to movement morphs etc, which make it so incredibly easy to use. I can't tell you how many times I've bought something like a skirt only to discover the only morphs are "expandall". Whereas with Connie, she'll have wind morphs, undress morphs, shorten/lengthen morphs and every other conceivable morph she can think of.

IgnisSerpentus - besides the fact that I am but a lowly minion to my Dark Queen and therefore would be banished to the scungiest dungeon if I did not declare my awe of her, Ignis "Don't Call Me Barbie" Serpentus makes GIGANTIC products. There's none of this "make a shirt and half a pair of pants and high heeled boots with one texture and call it done" with her. Her products are absolute value for money. Packed to the rafters with textures, and morphs and STUFF, plus usually a billion page pdf that goes through everything you need ot know to use it, her products are extremely well made, often 'different' and always worth the money you pay.

AprilYSH - DUH!!! LOL As a hair junkie, I am a devoted worshipper of April. Her hairs are ALWAYS top notch quality, and I especially love how lately she's been adding pre-made poses to them. It doens't matter what the hairstyle is, an AprilYSH hair goes straight to the cart/wishlist. Every. Single. Time.

There are a LOT of vendors whose work always gets a "second look" from me. Those three that I mentioned go into the cart/wishlist regardless of what they are, but there are quite a few others where I will stop and look and go through the promos and description with a great deal of scrutiny because I know their work is excellent, but they don't always do the genres that I am interested in, so I don't necessarily "insta buy" every single thing they do. However, they are on my Top List of creators whose work I always check out immediately (as opposed to the few vendors whose stuff I won't even look at and of course, I'm not going to discuss that).

People like - MidnightStories (I'm a HUGE fan of his sci fi bodysuits for the girls); Porsimo (BIG fan of weapons in general); ElorOnceDark (WHERE ARE YOU, JEFF!!! COME BACK AND CREATE FOR ME!!); Khory (a massive fan of her shaders back in the 3delight days and now KICKING myself I was broke when her amazing iray light sets were released LOL); GypsyAngel (ADORE all her 'fantasy' makeups that she creates, different and unique and original and no cookie-cutter blue eyeshadow/red lipstick); Sickleyield (one of the most important creators around as she is making stuff that we NEED); ARTCollab (excellent props/scenery/environments and also the nicest people on this planet); Arien (I ALWAYS look twice when I see her name on something - she is Texture Maker Extraordinaire); Alessandro_AM (we got FUR! REAL FUR in Daz Studio! AT LAST!!!!!!! plus we FINALLY got an excellent wolf for all our fantasy renders!!); and omg I bet I am forgetting someone. LOL.

    I think I wrote a novel there.

Awe, thanks Knittingmommy and Ice Dragon Art. You are too kind.

I'll chip in my own insta-buy vendor, and that is The AntFarm. I have not the faintest idea what I will ever do with a Tardis colored port-a-potty, or an A frame house on chicken legs, but I don't care. I think I might have enough tiny bots to start a plot on world domination. His promos make me laugh, and I totally admire the creativity and utter uniqueness of everything he does.

I was going to add this to my original post but it seemed a bit off topic... but since you posted...

I've been thinking lately about which items I actually use all the time of all the instabuy type things, and your toon hair shaders has been pretty much #1 most used for the past few weeks.

Thanks lx. I guess I really should get that update submitted soon. I've got some questions for you, but I'll take it off forum so we don't drag this thread OT.

Back to the raving about the supremely talented Daz vendors everyone.

I love your promos and I have quite a few of your characters in my wishlist, but I rarely purchase characters from DAZ since they are lacking in promos that show all the product. If character vendors would place a link to deviantart or another site with full promos I would probably purchase more from here than other stores. Right now, I have purchased more G3F from Sabby at rendo than here simply because I can see the complete product over there.

I don't buy without looking, but there are artists I'd buy from at a higher price than usual (eq at standard intro discount) without waiting for a sale, just to support them:

MidnightStories (love, love, love the wings. Use it for everything. Currently sparing up for the horns.)
AprilYSH (because the hair has so many morphs I can always get what I want, for every generation)
Danie and Marforno (because the environments are always just what I'm looking for and also often comes with a couple of poses, and I'm sure of using it many times over)
Parrotdolphin (because the Iray shaders are a lifesaver for all the old clothing from the pre-Iray era and the amount of options is incredible)

I have to say I didn't list specific hair and character vendors because honestly, there are so many beautiful character and hair out there and I just can't afford to buy anymore hair or characters right now.  I think I have over 300 hair products and several hundred characters between all generations.  I just can't justify any more no matter how much I want to lol.  I do look long and hard at all the new stuff just in case though....

And as I read through the thread I am also catching myself going oh yeah, so and so is another one I ALWAYS look at.  More times than I can count.

Well, if I would have found this thread before you, I would have shown character creators some love. kiss  Before the whole character wars sarted (Sarcasm) Anything that Silver, P3D, and Sabby used to make for V4 were instant buys. Now that I have switched to Genesis 2 F/M characters, I have to look to make sure who their character is for, be it G2f/m or G3f/m. I do have to say Lyoness I really love your G2f girls, but by not fault of any vendors, nothing is an instant buy anymore.

Well, I of course don't buy stuff without looking, but here's a list of people I would buy from without looking if money wasn't such a big issue:

    Zev0

    Raiya

    Stonemason

    AprilYSH

    Flipmode

    Aeon Soul

    Mihrelle

    outoftouch

    SickleYield

I'm probably forgetting someone, but those are that ones that come to mind :D

First, let me say I've enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on the topic.

Second, I should add that there is at least one vendor who has been mentioned a lot who didn't make my list and it wasn't because he isn't someone I think of when it comes to great sets or that I think I don't need to buy any of the new things he comes out with because, frankly, I'm slowly adding his entire collection of products to my product library.  However, I tend to think of Jack Tomalin as a class all to himself!  Embarrassing as it is to admit, I own all but 8 amazing sets in his rather large catalog.  And, I'll be getting those when I can afford them.

Third, I think one reason I don't mention a favorite 'Character' vendor is that they could have a thread all to themselves as to what are your top 5 Character Creators!

somehow I lost the quote thingy: @Lyoness

I'm noticing that character makers are not making the list at all.  No one is faithful to a specific character artist?
    Daz Characters, silver, emmaandjordi,malem3dia, gypsyangel?

However, of the character vendors who I happen to own quite a few characters are in no particular order:

Lyoness (when I checked I had 33 of her listed 54 listed products)

Fred Wrinkler Art (embarrassing number of bought items from an amazing catalog of characters)

Fisty and Darc (again a lot)

    EmmaAndJordi

    Jepe

MortemVetus (I SO love the fact that his amazing characters are here now!)

    Male-M3dia

Of those, I have some favorites that I use over and over again.  Lyoness' character Trini and Fred Wrinkler Art's Ashley being the top characters I go to when I want to put a female in an image.  I do have to say, though, that I look a little more carefully at the characters I buy than I do all those beautiful sets or wonderful scripts that I have found indispensable.  I usually have a specific look in my head and I try to find a character that I think will fit the part.  And, when I'm in looking mode those vendors listed above are the first ones I go looking at to see if they have what I need.  I also tend to create some of my own characters by spinning dials and use the skins from characters I love.  I could go on.

So, yeah, I have to say that character vendors are a different class of must haves and could have their own thread specific to them.

    Jack isn't a person; he's most of my PC+ collection >.>

I should add for vendors: Sets are like terrible candy for some of us. I have no practical use for the West Park series (at least for now) and yet I still nibble endlessly at bits and pieces of it, and I've almost completed the Dream Home series. And I want all those LadyLittlefox Gumdrops and Plushies (but wallet is prevailing.. for now.) Must.. complete.. sets..

Dzfire is a vendor I will buy most of the time, although I don't always buy the vehicles since for some reason I tend to not render vehicles too much. They are lovely though. I really love dzfire armor and bots though.

For me there are pa's that I will buy every time if it fits my sci-fi genre. It is just for example I love stonemason but no longer buy Asian-style buildings because I don't render Asian fantasy.

with character artists I tend to buy most male adult figures for gen 3. I already have so many females I can't possibly render them all... So I only buy female figures if they are something unusual such as a different skin or hair or part android.

I also avoid characters which have the same merchant resourced skins or who look similar to existing content I own.

There are easily a dozen artists that I would say I buy from consistantly, but there are a LOT of character artists out there and there comes a point where the subtle differences between releases tend to get lost.  The thing is, there are some artists who have created a ridiculous number of items and while I may buy a good number of them, I imagine that it's highly unlikely for anyone to have purchased MOST of them.  In the case of character artists, for example, I own over 80 characters between P3Design's DAZ and Rendo stores, and well over a different hundred charactrer sets by the Sabby/Seven combine.  But in neither case do I own their entire catalogs. And there are huge number of artists where I may own in excess of 20 items, but for one reason or another I haven't bought everything. There used to be a few Rebelmommy characters in the DAZ store that were still on my "to buy" list, but her store seems to have vanished now, Aeon Soul/Aery Soul/Awful Soul/etc. seems to drop products from their catalog faster than I can buy them, and needless to say, there are still some V3 generation products floating out there that I only buy when needs and super sales fortuitously concide.  On the other hand, I DID buy a lilfetime membership at Poserworld, so I could say that I really do automatically buy everything that they produce, but I don't think that's in the spirit of the intent of the original question. :)

I too don't have a list of must have vendors.  My criteria is quality, usability and possibilty for style change, kit bashing.  The part that can sell a product to me is having a clay render, which shows the product as it is without any textures.

I agree, though I have some vendors I prefer a lot to others.
