Legacy UVs for G3... Same as at Rendo? (SOLVED)

Today the Legacy UVs hit the store: http://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-victoria-5

A same named product by the same vendor was on sale over at Rendo (they still have the G2F to G3F version). Is this the same product, or have there been any changes to it?

...well, the female one seems to specify Vicky 5 rather than the "generic" Genesis UV. I need to go through all my Gen5 characters/figures to see which ones use V5 as the UV to determine just how useful it wil be (I know a Gen 5 characters were based off of the Steph 5 UV for some odd reason). Also kind of surprised there wasn't one for Vicky 4. I know that the Young Teens5 used the V4 UV for some reason.

Gen 6 could be more problematic as it seemed Daz released distinct UVs for just about every figure in that line rather than basing the majority off Vicky 6 or the "generic" G2F.

Personally I would like to see an updated Skin Builder for G3F/M as well as an LIE overlay for blemishes, freckles, etc..

It's not the same, the one's at rendo are for V4 and G2F UV's, but it works the same way as the one's now on sale here. Will be interesting to see if the one's at the other store will move across at some point, once any period of exclusivity has passed...

Snapping up the M4 version. I have the V4 and G2F versions from Rendo already. I'm also unsure how many characters I own that use the V5 UVS. Is there any way to search the store by UV?

V5 was the default UV for a lot of the early G2F skins. It does plug a gap. Unfortunately, DAZ's insistance on requiring a new UV for every new base means that a lot of the ones that require something for those may not ever get transfered. Kind of a law of diminishing returns.

I was wondering about the V5 UV's......V5 was Genesis right? The original?

I can't recall if the vast majority of characters for her used the base default Genesis UV's or what.....it was too long ago LOL.

    Yeah, they're all different:

Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: V4 (Rendo)
Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: M4 (Daz)
Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: V5 (Daz)
Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: G2F (Rendo)

So, we're probably going to see a split of M5 and G2M between Daz and Rendo as well, most likely G2M here and M5 at Rendo if there's a pattern to be perceived here... ;)

Though, wait a minute! Isn't FWSA Keshi a Stephanie 6 UV character? O.o

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

Hmm this is going to be tricky, figuring out which Genesis/V5 characters use the V5 UVs. A random search in the store for characters, a lot of them don't even mention WHAT UVs they use.

  • I have to say this is very clever I would have said it's not possible without stretching the UVs. It's a stroke of genius to use geografts.

I've just spent a few minutes loading skins from my library and between Genesis and G2F, have found at least 12 characters that use the V5 UV, so maybe worthwhile buying both products.

Redz, would you mind listing the 12 characters that use the V5 UV so I can check if I have them, to see whether I should buy this/

In one of the promo pics for the M4 product it states the M4 Material file must be in Duf format. So how do we get there from a poser .pz2 or .mc6 file or an older daz .dsa file? Do you load up an M4 in Daz Studio and do some kind of duf save??

Ok I looked at the V4 version readme over at Rendo and it has more info on what I was asking. Another reason readme's should be available here at DAZ before purchase.

No doubt there are many more. Feel free to add to the list. Lots of FWSA characters seem to have used the V5 UV.

Geografts is clever, but going to be tricky down the road with head geografts people otherwise want to use... then again, those figures are likely to have special Genesis 3 skins. Hmm.

Not sure I understand this ... the promo says "UV support for Anatomical Elements included" but, from what I can tell from the V5 characters I have, there are no separate AE mats - they seem to be part of the torso. Or am I looking at the wrong characters?

There are no separate MATs, but the Genesis 3 Female Genitalia geograft still needs to have the V5 Torso UV information.

Hm. I wonder when we're going to have a morph converter to Gen3 :/ GenX Converter used to do that, no?

Thanks - I think I get the idea now. Would it work with 3rd Party geografts like 3feetWolf's?

Every object has its own UVs which have to be configured specifically for it.  And that would apply equally to any 3rd party geograft.  These UV sets only work on Genesis 3 and on the "official" Genitalia geografts.

On reflection, I think the 3FW set might still work because it uses the native UV sets. I've purchased you product so I'll let you know.

EDIT: Answer is that you are correct - the 3FW gens are not compatible with this.

They won't,  those 2 are staying at Rendo. Vendor said all future releases in the UV line will be here.
