Do you feel like trying a manual install of the Leather Factory to see if that works?

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,741

No I am on Windows 7.  I have no idea how I managed to find a brand new PC last year that still came with WIN 7 but I was thrilled.  I hated hated hated WIN 8 and am not impressed with WIN 10.  One of our new computers at work has it but its difficult to judge since most of the stuff we do at work and what I do at home are completely different lol. And being forced to constantly update drives me bat crazy.

Well if we can't figure it out together maybe someone will take pity on us and chime in if they have any other ideas lol.  I will double check all of my library chains as well to make sure something didn't go where it wasn't supposed to but they were working two days ago.  Maybe I will try deleting one or two completely and downloading one with DIM and one manually on the way off chance the DIM update did something weird.

    And thank you!

That's honestly the only thing I can think of doing, and it worked for me (deleting all the files manually and putting them back in with a fresh manual download.) Let me know if it works, test it on the Leather one?

Ha ha great minds think alike lol!  I will try and do that tomorrow I have to work tomorrow so have about an hour and a half left to do something besides beat my head on the desk lol.  Going to work on something that does not involve those troublesome shaders.

I can't think of anything...I don't have any of those sets, so I'm a bit  behind the curve on this one, as I can't check them out.

When you load one...or try to load one of the presets, what does the log file say? (Help > Troubleshooting > View Log...if you can't find it).

    Okay...

Are you loading it from Smart Content or the Content Library?

If it's SC, then the database is looking for it in the wrong place.

If it does the same, but from Content Library and you can drag and drop, then it's sounding like it could be a 'nested' folder...in Explorer navigate to your main content folder/content folder this is in (if you have more than one)  and expand everything in the path...and post a screenshot of that.

And if it is a nested content directory, I'd say there are other things that would throw all sorts of errors, but you probably haven't found them...yet. (dang, that sounds gloomy...)

Well, gloomy's good- you at least had a different (and smart) way of tackling it!  (although I already showed her the files and asked about nested. She said they weren't.)  Edit: I'm wondering about "content" as there's two content folders. But how would DIM put it under the wrong one? I can see if this had originally been a manual install, but DIM wouldn't know how to do that. Totally lost.

BTW, mine was from Content Library. I don't use Smart Content.

Is this related? This person has had problems with scenes, and I noticed they also include shaders. They're getting the same error (I think.)  The first part involves shaders (but seemed okay)

    Compiling OpenGL Shader...
    Fragment Shader:
    No errors.
    Fragment Shader compiled successfully.
    Linking Shader:
    No errors.
    Shader Program successfully linked.

Beginning of the second group: WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

THIS!!!! That's the error that my log file shows every time.       WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

I googled it and there's been several DAZ discussions on it. One mentioned file compression. But they were talking Wind, Macs, Linux. So doesn't apply. Richard was the one who seemed a bit knowledgeable on the error.

Hopefully Studio isn't choking on that one...but if it was, it should be a different problem.

Basically that's warning that a png file isn't correctly saved (png doesn't need to have a color profile attached, like a jpg does, but if it does it had best be correct) so the color profile attached to it is wrong...that could mean it is a black and white/grayscale image with an sRGB profile or a color image marked wrong or several other combinations.  That is something sort of recent...newish builds of libpng are more strict than older ones.

Well at least that gives me something to work with.  I will take a closer look and hunt down some of those discussions and see if I can figure anything out.

okay tested this on my lap top which is running 4.8 at the moment.  And they work perfectly no issues whatsoever when I double click.  Every single one works.  And just on the very off chance its the Dim download I did the download on the laptop the same day that I did it on my pc.

If anyone has any idea at all what caused this and how to fix it I would be forever grateful.

    Hey Sonja,

So i took a look at the shaders and they work in 4.8 Without errors soooo not sure what's up.. I installed manually then installed through DIM

So some trouble shooting. Your library have you mapped it correctly - (i can help with a video but it should be mapped to the directory above data) so if you have (jens/My Library/data) it should be mapped to Jens/My Library

so check that just to make sure, Make sure Dim is actually installing to that mapped library (i've had it install to a completely wrong one) so that's another thing to check

have you tried reinstalling 4.8 to make sure it's working correctly?

Running out of ideas for now.. check those please and let me know

Okay I can't check some of those until I get home from work but I have my laptop which runs 4.8 still and I just used the nature shaders not 10 minutes ago they work perfectly.  No issues at all and I did install the update to Dim there as well.  I will check the mapped directory on the pc when I get home, I am running the latest (as of a about a month ago) version of 4.9 on the pc. I haven't loaded 4.8 back on yet as I just haven't had time.  The shaders were working perfectly for more than two months until I did the update to DIM on the 4.9 version. 4.8 still works as it should.  I work until 5 today and of course dinner etc so it will be later this evening before I can really sit down and dig into it.

It looks like its right.  they are both mapped the same way (the one in 4.8 on the lap top that works perfectly and the one in 4.9 on the pc are mapped in the exact same way).  my Library/shader presets/ then whatever the name of that particular shader set is.  Just like the other shaders that work the way they should as well as the other shaders that aren't co operateing lol.

I think I figured it out.  If I take out the _ in the file name, it applies with the double click with no errors.  I have only tried this on the ground shaders but it works.  Can someone else test this?
