Question on video cards

I was considering upgrading my graphic card from a Nvidia 2080ti to a 5070ti and my question is can I still use Daz 4.24 ? Or will I have to upgrade to Daz 6? I understand that some plug-ins and utilities may not work in 6. Thanks for any info you can provide.

  • 50xx series are only supported in DS6.

You can still do your work in 4.24. and then render in 6, though there are some work arounds you'd need to use for incompatible plugins and scripts.

Thank you. I've heard somewhere that possibly 4.25 might work but wasn't sure.

There is no 4.25. And the chance of any 4.xx rendering in IRAY with a 50xx NVIDIA card are 0.00%

But generally, working in DS4 and DS6 is decent workflow.

Is there any reason you can't keep both GPUs in your PC? Pick whichever one you prefer to drive your screens and leave the second as a compute device. You'll be able to use both DS4 and DS6 with iRay, but bear in mind that whichever card gets hooked up to your monitor(s) will lose some VRAM to Windows. You'll also get the speed advantage in DS6 of two GPUs working on your renders if they fit into the 2080's VRAM.

If you don't need a super-fast gaming card, look into the RTX-4000/5000/6000 Ada Generation cards at comparable prices (20 GB, 32 GB, 48 GB VRAM). They are intended more for workstation applications, lots of memory and are rock solid. I have an RTX-4000 Ada Generation, and I can render Iray in both DS4.24 and DS 6.25.2026.xxxx. I assume the later cards could do the same, but that might require some digging to confirm (and a few more dinero).
